Overview

The Fastrax M0.5 13T Steel Pinion Gear (2.3mm) is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand precision engineering and reliable performance. Whether you're running a competitive RC car setup, enjoying weekend bashing, or fine-tuning your existing RC vehicle, this pinion gear represents a critical drivetrain component that directly impacts acceleration, top speed, and overall power delivery. Fastrax has earned recognition as a trusted manufacturer of RC spare parts, and this steel pinion gear exemplifies their commitment to quality and durability.

As a dedicated RC hobbyist in the UK, you understand that drivetrain performance determines how your RC car behaves on track or off-road. The pinion gear meshes directly with your spur gear to create the gear ratio that governs your vehicle's speed and torque characteristics. This 13-tooth configuration offers a specific gear reduction that many RC car builders prefer for balanced acceleration and top-end speed. Steel construction provides superior durability compared to nylon alternatives, resisting wear and deformation even under sustained high-performance driving conditions.

This pinion gear is designed for RC cars using M0.5 module gearing systems with a 2.3mm bore, making it compatible with a wide range of popular electric RC cars and buggies available in the UK market. Whether you're rebuilding a worn drivetrain, upgrading from stock components, or experimenting with different gear ratios to optimise your RC car's performance, the Fastrax M0.5 13T Steel Pinion Gear delivers the precision fit and robust construction that serious RC enthusiasts demand.

Key Features

  • Steel Construction — Manufactured from hardened steel rather than plastic or aluminium, this pinion gear offers exceptional durability and resistance to tooth stripping, wear, and deformation, ensuring consistent performance lap after lap and session after session.
  • M0.5 Module Specification — Engineered to M0.5 module standard, this gear ensures precise meshing compatibility with M0.5 spur gears and other drivetrain components, eliminating play and guaranteeing smooth power transfer with minimal noise and vibration.
  • 13-Tooth Configuration — The 13-tooth count provides a specific gear ratio that balances acceleration and top speed, making it ideal for various RC car applications and driving styles across different track types and terrain conditions.
  • 2.3mm Bore Diameter — The 2.3mm bore fits standard pinion shafts found on countless RC cars, buggies, and off-road vehicles, ensuring straightforward installation without requiring shaft modifications or adapters.
  • Genuine Fastrax Component — As an authorised Fastrax spare part, this pinion gear meets OEM quality standards and specifications, providing peace of mind that you're installing a genuine component engineered for your specific RC car.
  • Compact Design — The pinion gear's efficient compact design minimises weight whilst maintaining structural integrity, helping to preserve your RC car's handling characteristics and performance dynamics.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax M0.5 13T Steel Pinion Gear represents precision engineering optimised for the demanding world of RC car competition and recreational driving throughout the UK. Steel pinion gears outperform plastic alternatives by resisting the high torque loads transmitted through the drivetrain, particularly when using brushless motors or high-powered brushed setups. The M0.5 module specification ensures that this pinion gear meshes perfectly with compatible spur gears, eliminating backlash and ensuring efficient power delivery from your motor to the wheels. The 13-tooth count positions this gear as a popular choice for builders seeking a balanced ratio that doesn't sacrifice either acceleration or top-end speed. With a 2.3mm bore, installation is straightforward on standard RC car pinion shafts, though you should verify compatibility with your specific vehicle before purchase. Steel construction means this gear will outlast multiple plastic alternatives, making it an economical long-term choice for serious RC enthusiasts who value reliability and consistent performance. Whether you're replacing a worn drivetrain component or experimenting with gear ratios to optimise your RC car's handling on your local track, this pinion gear delivers the durability and precision that enthusiasts have come to expect from Fastrax spare parts. The hardened steel resists the micro-fractures and tooth wear that develop under continuous use, maintaining engagement quality over extended periods and preserving the smooth, efficient power transfer that separates competitive setups from casual builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What RC cars use M0.5 module pinion gears with 2.3mm bore? — This specification is commonly found across numerous electric RC cars, buggies, and off-road vehicles manufactured by leading brands. Check your vehicle's manual or contact the manufacturer to confirm your car uses M0.5 module gearing and has a 2.3mm pinion shaft before purchasing. Many popular 1/10-scale and smaller RC cars use this standard specification.
  • Why choose steel over plastic pinion gears? — Steel pinion gears offer superior durability and resistance to tooth stripping compared to plastic alternatives. Whilst plastic gears are lighter and initially less expensive, steel gears maintain their performance over extended use, making them ideal for competitive driving, high-torque brushless motors, and serious RC enthusiasts who value longevity and consistent performance.
  • How do I know if this is the right tooth count for my RC car? — Pinion gear tooth count directly affects your RC car's gear ratio and therefore its acceleration and top speed. Fewer teeth (like 12T) increase top speed but reduce acceleration, whilst more teeth (like 14T or 15T) increase acceleration but limit top speed. The 13-tooth configuration offers a balanced compromise. Consult your vehicle manual or fellow RC enthusiasts to determine the optimal tooth count for your driving style and track conditions.
  • Is this a genuine Fastrax spare part? — Yes, the FASTM5-13 is an authorised Fastrax genuine spare part, manufactured to OEM specifications and quality standards. Purchasing from authorised retailers like RC Model Shop ensures you receive authentic components engineered for reliable performance.
  • How difficult is installation? — Pinion gear installation is generally straightforward for anyone with basic RC car maintenance experience. You'll need to remove your existing pinion gear from the pinion shaft, clean the shaft, and slide this new gear onto it. Some builders apply a small amount of threadlocker to prevent the gear from shifting under load. Consult your vehicle manual for specific installation instructions for your particular RC car model.
  • What maintenance does this pinion gear require? — Steel pinion gears are relatively maintenance-free compared to plastic alternatives. Periodically inspect the gear teeth for damage or excessive wear, ensure the gear is properly seated on the shaft, and keep the drivetrain clean and lightly greased. Replace the gear if teeth become chipped, cracked, or significantly worn.
