Overview

The Fastrax Blue Aluminium Flywheel Puller for (.10 to .46) FAST641 is an essential tool for anyone serious about maintaining nitro RC engines. Whether you're running a competition RC car UK, a high-performance off-road buggy, or any other nitro-powered RC vehicle, removing the flywheel from your engine is a task you'll need to perform regularly. This purpose-made puller eliminates the frustration and potential damage that comes with using improvised tools, making engine maintenance safer, cleaner, and more professional.

Nitro RC engines are precision instruments, and the flywheel sits under significant pressure on the engine's cone washer, creating a tight binding fit that can be extremely difficult to remove. Many RC enthusiasts resort to hammers or other crude tools to dislodge the flywheel, which inevitably results in dents, scratches, and cosmetic damage to what is often an expensive component. The Fastrax Blue Aluminium Flywheel Puller solves this problem entirely by providing the mechanical advantage needed to extract the flywheel cleanly and safely, without any risk of marking or damaging your engine.

Designed to work with a wide range of nitro engine sizes from .10 cubic inch displacement right up to .46 cubic inch, this versatile tool is compatible with most popular RC engine brands. Its robust aluminium construction ensures durability and reliability, making it a worthwhile investment for RC enthusiasts who want to maintain their engines properly and protect their equipment investment.

Key Features

  • Wide Engine Compatibility — This puller is engineered to work with engines ranging from .10 to .46 cubic inch displacement, covering the vast majority of nitro RC cars, buggies, and trucks on the market in the UK and beyond. This broad compatibility means you won't need multiple tools for different engines.
  • Aluminium Construction — The puller is manufactured from high-quality blue anodised aluminium, offering an excellent balance between strength and light weight. Aluminium resists corrosion and is durable enough to withstand repeated use over many years of RC hobby enjoyment.
  • Purpose-Built Design — Unlike generic tools, this flywheel puller was specifically designed for the task of removing engine flywheels safely. The geometry and mechanical advantage are optimised to apply consistent, even pressure that lifts the flywheel without concentrating force on any single point.
  • Damage-Free Removal — The primary benefit of using a dedicated puller instead of a hammer or screwdriver is that your flywheel and engine cone remain completely unmarked and unscrathed. This protects the resale value of your engine and keeps your equipment looking factory fresh.
  • Prevents Engine Damage — Hammering on a flywheel can damage not just the flywheel itself but also the internal bearings and crankshaft assembly inside the engine. A proper puller eliminates this risk entirely, keeping your engine's mechanical integrity intact.
  • Professional Tool Quality — Whether you're a weekend basher or a serious RC racer preparing for competition, this tool provides the professional approach to engine maintenance that experienced hobbyists expect and demand.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax Blue Aluminium Flywheel Puller represents a smart engineering solution to a common problem in the nitro RC hobby. The tool is constructed from quality aluminium that has been anodised in an attractive blue finish, providing both aesthetic appeal and corrosion resistance. The design works by providing mechanical advantage through a lever-based system that gradually and evenly distributes the pulling force across the flywheel, loosening its grip on the cone washer progressively rather than applying sudden shock loads that could damage delicate engine components. The puller accommodates engines from .10 cubic inch displacement (commonly found in small RC touring cars and buggies) through to .46 cubic inch displacement (the size used in larger 1/8-scale buggies and trucks). This range covers virtually all standard nitro engines used in UK RC racing and recreational use. The aluminium construction ensures the tool will not rust or corrode, even when stored in damp UK garage conditions, and the solid build quality means it will last through countless engine rebuilds and flywheel removals. For anyone running a nitro-powered RC buggy, RC truck, or any other engine-equipped RC car, this is a tool that will prove its value many times over.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why do I need a special flywheel puller tool? — The flywheel on a nitro RC engine sits under tremendous spring pressure on the engine's cone washer, creating a very tight fit. Using a hammer or flat-head screwdriver to remove it risks damaging the flywheel, cracking the cone washer, or even jarring the internal engine components. A purpose-built puller applies gradual, even pressure that overcomes the binding fit safely and without any risk of damage. It's a small investment that protects a much larger investment in your engine.
  • Will this puller work with my engine? — This Fastrax puller is compatible with nitro engines ranging from .10 to .46 cubic inch displacement. This covers the overwhelming majority of RC engines used in RC cars in the UK, including small .10 and .12 touring cars, medium .15 and .18 engines, and larger .21, .26, .28, .32, and .46 engines found in RC buggies and trucks. If your engine's displacement falls within this range, this puller will work with it.
  • How often will I need to remove my flywheel? — Flywheels typically need to be removed during major engine rebuilds, when replacing the crankshaft, or when servicing the bearings inside the engine. For casual weekend RC enthusiasts, this might be once or twice a year. Competitive RC racers who maintain their engines more frequently might remove the flywheel several times per season. Either way, having the right tool makes the job quick and risk-free.
  • Can I damage my engine using this puller? — No. The puller is specifically designed to remove flywheels safely. It applies pressure gradually and evenly, which is exactly the opposite of the shock loading you get from striking a flywheel with a hammer. As long as you follow the manufacturer's instructions and apply steady, progressive pressure, there is no risk of damaging your engine components.
  • Is this tool suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. In fact, beginners benefit even more from having a proper tool because they are less experienced with engine work and therefore more likely to damage components using incorrect methods. This puller takes the guesswork out of flywheel removal and makes the task straightforward and safe for anyone new to nitro RC engine maintenance.
  • What is the difference between this and using a hammer? — Using a hammer applies sudden shock loads to the flywheel and engine, which can damage the flywheel teeth, crack the cone washer, misalign internal components, or jar the crankshaft bearings. The Fastrax puller applies gradual, controlled pressure that overcomes the binding fit without any shock, protecting all components. Additionally, the puller provides much better control and visibility of what you're doing, making the task safer and more professional.
