Frequently Asked Questions

  • What weight silicone oil should I use for my RC car? — Oil weight depends on your vehicle type, driving style, and track conditions. The 80Wt specification is a popular mid-range option suitable for many applications. Lighter oils (lower weights) provide less damping resistance and quicker shock response, while heavier oils give more stability and control. Start with the manufacturer's recommendation for your specific RC vehicle, then adjust based on your track conditions and driving preferences. Fastrax's range of options means you can experiment to find your perfect setup.
  • Why is silicone oil better than other shock oil types? — Silicone oils offer superior consistency across a wider temperature range compared to mineral oils, making them ideal for RC racing where conditions vary. The pure silicone formulation in Fastrax oils delivers more predictable performance whether you're driving in heat or cooler weather, and it doesn't break down or lose viscosity as quickly, meaning your shocks maintain their tuning characteristics throughout your driving session.
  • Can I use this oil in both shocks and differentials? — Yes, Fastrax Racing Pure Silicone Oil 80Wt is specifically formulated for both shock and differential applications, making it versatile for your entire RC car setup. This means you can use one product to tune multiple components, simplifying your maintenance routine and ensuring consistency across your vehicle's suspension and drivetrain.
  • Is this oil suitable for beginners? — While this product is professional-grade and developed by expert racers, the 80Wt weight is a good starting point for many RC enthusiasts moving beyond basic setups. However, if you're completely new to RC, we recommend consulting your vehicle's manual first, as some beginner-oriented kits may have different specifications. Once you're comfortable with your RC car's basics, switching to quality Fastrax oils will immediately improve your control and tuning options.
  • What makes Fastrax oils different from cheaper alternatives? — Fastrax oils have been developed and tested by professional European racing drivers over 12 months in real competition conditions. This professional input ensures you're getting a product that actually performs consistently across diverse conditions, not just a generic silicone oil. Drivers have consistently reported that these oils offer superior progression through the weight range and more consistency than alternatives, translating to more predictable handling and easier fine-tuning of your RC car's performance.
  • Why does the easy-pour lid matter? — Oil changes are a routine maintenance task in RC racing, and a frustrating, messy oil change discourages drivers from making the setup adjustments their cars need. Fastrax's innovative easy-pour lid design means you can change oils quickly and cleanly, making it genuinely convenient to swap weights based on track conditions without wasting product or creating mess.
