Overview
The Fastrax Racing Pure Silicone Oil 40Wt is a premium shock and differential oil designed for RC car enthusiasts who demand consistent performance across all racing conditions. Whether you're competing in the UK's thriving RC racing scene or enjoying weekend bashing sessions, this 40-weight silicone oil delivers the tuning precision needed to optimise your RC car's handling characteristics. This product represents the culmination of 12 months of rigorous development and testing by some of Europe's leading RC drivers, ensuring you're getting a professional-grade lubricant that has been proven in real-world competitive environments.
What sets the Fastrax Racing range apart is the exceptional consistency and progression throughout the entire product line. The testing programme was deliberately conducted across diverse climates and conditions, from the intense heat of Spain to the wet weather challenges of the UK, guaranteeing that this oil maintains its performance characteristics regardless of where you're racing your RC model. The drivers involved in the development process consistently reported that they had never encountered oils offering such reliable consistency and smooth progression between different weight options, making it straightforward to fine-tune your vehicle's suspension for any track condition or driving style.
Designed with the serious RC competitor in mind, this ready-to-use shock oil is perfect for tuning the suspension geometry of your RC car. Whether you're running a 1/10 RC buggy, a touring car, or any other RC vehicle with adjustable shocks, having access to a properly formulated 40-weight silicone oil is essential for achieving competitive lap times and consistent handling. The easy-pour lid design means you can change your oil quickly and without mess, transforming what was once a tedious maintenance task into a straightforward job that takes just moments to complete.
Key Features
- Pure Silicone Formulation — This oil is formulated from pure silicone, which provides superior consistency and stability compared to lower-quality alternatives, ensuring that your shock and differential oils maintain their viscosity characteristics throughout your racing session regardless of temperature fluctuations.
- Professional Development Pedigree — The oil has been rigorously tested over 12 months by leading European RC drivers across multiple climates and conditions, meaning you're using a product that has proven itself in real competitive racing environments rather than a generic off-the-shelf lubricant.
- Proven Consistency Across Range — Drivers unanimously praised the exceptional consistency and smooth progression through the Fastrax oil weight range, enabling precise tuning of your RC car's suspension behaviour for any track condition or weather scenario you might encounter.
- Versatile Weight Option — The 40Wt rating positions this oil in the mid-range of the Fastrax product lineup, making it suitable for a wide variety of RC vehicles and driving styles, with heavier oils available for slower speeds and lighter oils for faster, more responsive handling.
- Easy-Pour Lid Design — The convenient easy-pour lid eliminates spillage and mess when changing your shock oil, transforming maintenance from a frustrating chore into a quick task that takes just moments, so you can spend more time racing and less time on preparation.
- Ideal for Shock and Differential Tuning — This is a multi-purpose oil suitable for use in both shock absorbers and differential units, providing flexibility in how you set up your RC car and allowing you to match viscosity across your entire suspension system.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax Racing Pure Silicone Oil 40Wt is engineered to provide consistent damping characteristics across a wide range of racing conditions and ambient temperatures. With a viscosity measurement of 500 cSt (centistokes), this 40-weight oil sits squarely in the medium range, offering a balance between responsiveness and stability that suits most RC vehicles and driving styles. The 500 cSt specification ensures that the oil flows with appropriate resistance through shock pistons and differential gears, providing predictable damping action that translates to consistent handling lap after lap. The pure silicone construction means the oil resists temperature-related viscosity changes better than mineral or synthetic blends, maintaining its performance whether you're racing in the warm sunshine of Spanish tracks or the cooler conditions typical of UK RC racing venues. This technical consistency is what impressed the European racing drivers during development—they noted that switching between different weight options in the Fastrax range produced predictable, progressive changes in vehicle behaviour, allowing them to dial in the perfect setup for their specific driving preferences and track characteristics. Whether you're tuning the compression and rebound characteristics of your shocks or adjusting differential lock-up to suit track grip levels, this 40Wt oil provides the stable, predictable performance foundation you need for competitive driving.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What viscosity weight should I choose for my RC car suspension? — The choice of oil weight depends on your driving style, track conditions, and vehicle setup. The 40Wt oil in this bottle is a versatile mid-range option suitable for most RC cars and drivers. Lighter weights (lower numbers) provide faster, more responsive handling with less damping resistance, whilst heavier weights offer more resistance and slower, more controlled shock action. Since the Fastrax range has been specifically praised for its progression and consistency across different weights, you may want to experiment with different options to find your ideal setup.
- Can I use this oil in both shocks and differentials? — Yes, this is a multi-purpose oil designed for use in both shock absorbers and differential units, giving you flexibility in how you set up your RC vehicle. You can use the same weight throughout your suspension system or mix different weights depending on your tuning preferences.
- Will this oil work in extreme temperatures? — The pure silicone formulation is specifically designed to maintain consistent viscosity across a wide range of temperatures. The development testing included conditions ranging from the heat of Spain to the rain of the UK, so this oil has been proven to perform reliably in both warm and cool climates. However, extreme temperature conditions outside typical RC racing scenarios may affect performance.
- What makes Fastrax oil different from other brands? — The Fastrax Racing range stands out due to its rigorous 12-month development process involving Europe's leading RC drivers testing in diverse real-world conditions. Drivers reported that these oils offer superior consistency and smoother progression between weight options compared to other products they had used previously, enabling more precise vehicle tuning and more predictable handling changes when adjusting setup.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes, this oil is suitable for both beginners and experienced racers. However, beginners should understand that shock oil selection is part of vehicle tuning—changing oil weight will noticeably alter how your RC car handles. Beginners may start with a mid-range weight like this 40Wt option and experiment from there based on how their vehicle responds on the track.
- How much oil is in the bottle? — The source information confirms this is a standard bottle of Fastrax shock oil, though the exact volume in millilitres is not specified. A typical shock oil bottle is usually 70-100ml, which is sufficient for multiple oil changes on standard RC vehicles.
