Key Features
- 48DP Pitch Specification — The 48-diametral pitch ensures compatibility with standard RC car drivetrains, making this gear a practical choice for most electric RC vehicles and allowing you to integrate it seamlessly into your existing setup without complications.
- 14-Tooth Configuration — The 14-tooth count provides a carefully balanced gear ratio that delivers responsive acceleration and smooth power delivery across a range of motor KV ratings, making it versatile enough for both speed-focused and torque-oriented builds.
- Premium 7075 Aluminium Alloy — This is aircraft-grade aluminium known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and superior hardness, which means your pinion gear resists tooth wear, maintains precise meshing with your spur gear over many hours of driving, and delivers consistent performance without degradation.
- Precision Engineering — Fastrax manufactures this gear to tight tolerances, ensuring that teeth are perfectly formed, the bore is accurately sized, and the overall balance is flawless, which translates into smoother engagement, quieter operation, and reduced drivetrain vibration.
- Extended Lifespan — The combination of premium materials and precision manufacturing means this pinion gear will outlast cheaper alternatives, reducing the frequency of replacements and delivering better value over the lifetime of your RC car.
- Universal Compatibility — The 48DP standard and 14-tooth specification make this gear compatible with most modern RC cars, whether you're running brushless or brushed motors, and whether your setup is stock or heavily modified.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax 48DP 14T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear is engineered for serious RC car enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on drivetrain quality. The selection of 7075 aluminium alloy as the base material is significant—this is the same material specification used in aerospace applications due to its exceptional hardness and fatigue resistance. When compared to standard aluminium or plastic alternatives, 7075 offers dramatically superior wear characteristics, which means your teeth remain sharp and engaged longer, power transfer remains efficient throughout extended driving sessions, and the risk of catastrophic gear failure is substantially reduced. The 48-pitch specification aligns with industry standards established across the RC car UK market, ensuring that replacement and upgrade options are readily available. The 14-tooth count is a popular intermediate specification that suits a broad range of motor sizes from modest 2000KV brushless motors to higher-KV setups, depending on your desired acceleration characteristics and top speed preferences. This tooth count strikes an excellent balance between responsiveness and reliability, avoiding the extreme ratios that can create excessive stress on drivetrain components. The precision manufacturing process ensures that each tooth is uniformly shaped and hardened, preventing the uneven wear patterns that plague lower-quality gears and leading to predictable, consistent performance lap after lap. Whether you're maintaining your existing RC car or building from the ground up, this pinion gear provides the engineering excellence that defines the difference between an average drivetrain and one that delivers championship-level reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why does it matter for my RC car? — The pinion gear is the smaller gear on your RC car's motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear on the main drivetrain. The ratio between these two gears (determined by tooth count) directly controls your acceleration, top speed, and torque characteristics. Investing in a quality pinion gear like this Fastrax 48DP 14T ensures smooth power delivery, reduces drivetrain noise, and dramatically extends the lifespan of your entire transmission system. A worn or low-quality pinion gear will cause accelerated wear to your spur gear, create drivetrain vibration, and lead to unpredictable handling.
- Is the 14-tooth specification suitable for my RC car? — The 14-tooth count is a versatile middle-ground specification that works with most modern RC cars and motor sizes. If you're running a typical 2000-3000KV brushless motor with a LiPo battery, a 14-tooth pinion paired with a suitable spur gear will give you a balanced setup with good acceleration and a reasonable top speed. However, final suitability depends on your spur gear tooth count and your specific motor specifications, so consult your vehicle manual or contact us if you're uncertain about compatibility.
- What makes 7075 aluminium better than standard aluminium for pinion gears? — 7075 is a much harder, stronger aluminium alloy that resists wear significantly better than standard grades. The hardness means your gear teeth remain sharp and engaged with the spur gear longer, preventing the rounding and wear that causes meshing problems. This translates to longer component life, more predictable performance, and better value for money—you'll replace this gear far less frequently than you would a standard aluminium or plastic alternative.
- Will this pinion gear fit my RC car? — As long as your RC car uses a 48-pitch motor pinion with a splined bore matching standard sizes, this Fastrax gear will fit. The 48DP pitch is the industry standard for most hobby-grade RC cars produced in recent years. However, we always recommend checking your vehicle's manual or contacting our expert team before purchasing to confirm compatibility with your specific setup, as some vintage or specialist vehicles may use different pitch specifications.
- How do I know when my pinion gear needs replacing? — Signs of wear include visible tooth rounding or chipping, increased drivetrain noise or grinding sounds, reduced acceleration responsiveness, or visible play between the pinion and spur gear. If you're running your RC car regularly, a quality pinion gear like this will typically last many hours of driving, but harsh driving conditions, impacts, or improper meshing can accelerate wear. Replace your pinion gear immediately if you notice any of these symptoms to prevent secondary damage to your spur gear and motor.
- What is the difference between 48DP and other pitch specifications? — The diametral pitch (DP) number refers to how many teeth fit into one inch of diameter. A 48DP gear is finer-pitched than a 32DP gear, meaning smaller teeth and a smaller overall diameter for the same tooth count. This makes 48DP gears suitable for compact RC cars with limited space and allows for precise gear ratio adjustments through tooth count. The 48DP standard has become the industry norm for modern hobby-grade RC cars across the UK market.
