Overview

The Fastrax Blue Aluminium Twin Fan Motor Heatsink Unit (FAST36-1) is an essential cooling accessory for RC enthusiasts running brushless motors in their high-performance RC cars and trucks. Whether you're a competitive racer, weekend basher, or someone looking to extend the lifespan of your brushless motor, this heatsink unit offers effective thermal management to keep your motor running at optimal temperatures. Brushless motors generate significant heat during extended running sessions, and without proper cooling, performance can degrade and component longevity can be compromised. This twin-fan design provides dual airflow cooling, making it an ideal upgrade for anyone serious about maintaining their RC car UK hobby equipment in peak condition.

Manufactured by Fastrax, a brand trusted throughout the RC community for quality motor accessories and performance parts, this heatsink unit is specifically engineered for 540 and 550 size brushless motors—the most common motor sizes found in modern RC vehicles. The striking blue anodised aluminium construction not only looks professional but also provides excellent heat dissipation properties. This is the kind of upgrade that makes a real difference to your RC driving experience, helping you maintain consistent performance during long practice sessions, competition days, or casual weekend bashings. For anyone running a brushless RC car, truck, or crawler and wanting to protect their investment, this is a straightforward and affordable upgrade worth considering.

RC Model Shop stocks genuine Fastrax parts and accessories, ensuring you receive an authentic product backed by manufacturer quality standards. If you're serious about your RC hobby and want to keep your motor running cool and reliable, the Fastrax Twin Fan Motor Heatsink Unit is the kind of practical accessory that every brushless RC enthusiast should have in their toolkit.

Key Features

  • Twin Fan Design — The dual-fan configuration delivers enhanced cooling performance compared to single-fan alternatives, ensuring your 540 or 550 brushless motor stays within safe operating temperatures during extended running sessions and high-demand driving scenarios.
  • Blue Anodised Aluminium Construction — Constructed from high-quality anodised aluminium, this heatsink combines durability with excellent thermal conductivity, efficiently transferring heat away from your motor whilst maintaining a professional appearance that complements modern RC vehicles.
  • Compatible with 540 and 550 Size Motors — Specifically designed to fit 540 and 550 size brushless motors, which are the industry-standard motor sizes used in competitive and recreational RC cars, buggies, trucks, and crawlers across the UK and beyond.
  • Compact 60mm x 30mm Dimensions — With a footprint of 60mm x 30mm, this heatsink is compact enough to integrate easily into most RC car setups without requiring significant modifications to your vehicle's chassis or motor mount.
  • Effective Heat Dissipation — The extended surface area of the aluminium fins combined with the dual-fan airflow maximises heat transfer away from critical motor components, protecting your investment and maintaining performance consistency throughout your driving sessions.
  • Easy Installation — This heatsink unit is designed as a straightforward bolt-on accessory, making installation quick and simple without requiring advanced technical knowledge or special tools beyond basic RC hex wrenches and screwdrivers.
  • Improves Motor Longevity — By maintaining cooler operating temperatures, this heatsink significantly extends the lifespan of your brushless motor, helping you avoid thermal damage and costly motor replacements.
  • Ideal for Competitive and Recreational Driving — Whether you're preparing your RC car UK for competition or simply enjoying weekend bashings, effective cooling ensures your motor performs reliably and consistently across all driving conditions.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax Blue Aluminium Twin Fan Motor Heatsink Unit represents a well-engineered thermal management solution for serious RC enthusiasts. Brushless motors, which are the dominant motor type in modern RC vehicles ranging from high-speed racing buggies to crawling rock crawlers, generate substantial heat during operation—particularly during sustained high-throttle driving, competitive racing, or extended practice sessions. The twin-fan configuration of this heatsink is specifically engineered to combat this heat generation by forcing fresh air across the large anodised aluminium cooling fins, which provide extensive surface area for heat dissipation. The 60mm x 30mm form factor has been carefully sized to deliver maximum cooling performance whilst remaining compact enough to fit in virtually any modern RC car setup without interfering with suspension components, battery compartments, or chassis geometry. Manufactured from anodised aluminium rather than plastic alternatives, this heatsink offers superior thermal conductivity—aluminium transfers heat approximately three times more efficiently than most engineering plastics—ensuring that motor temperatures are effectively reduced during operation. The blue anodised finish provides both aesthetic appeal and protective surface hardness, resisting corrosion and maintaining appearance even after exposure to dirt, moisture, and the rigours of regular RC driving. Whether you're running a competitive race-spec brushless system or enjoying casual recreational driving with your RC car UK, the Fastrax heatsink delivers measurable improvements in motor temperature management, helping maintain consistent performance and extending the working life of expensive brushless motor components.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Fastrax Twin Fan Motor Heatsink Unit suitable for all brushless motors? — This heatsink is specifically designed for 540 and 550 size brushless motors, which are the standard sizes used in most modern RC cars, buggies, trucks, and crawlers. If your motor is a different size—such as 3660, 3674, or larger 6-pole variants—you'll need to verify compatibility before purchasing. Check your motor specifications before ordering to ensure it's a 540 or 550 size motor.
  • How much temperature reduction can I expect from this heatsink? — While exact temperature reduction varies depending on ambient conditions, motor load, fan voltage, and individual setup configurations, quality motor heatsinks typically reduce operating temperatures by 10-20 degrees Celsius compared to running without cooling. This improvement becomes particularly noticeable during extended high-throttle driving or competitive racing sessions where motor heat buildup is most significant.
  • Will this heatsink work with my brushless ESC and LiPo battery setup? — Yes, the heatsink is designed as a universal accessory for 540 and 550 motors and works with any brushless ESC and battery combination compatible with those motor sizes. It doesn't require any special electrical integration—the fans typically operate directly from your battery or ESC fan connector if available.
  • Can beginners install this heatsink? — Absolutely. This is one of the most straightforward motor accessories to install, requiring only basic RC tools like a 1.5mm or 2mm hex key. Most RC enthusiasts can complete installation in under 10 minutes by simply removing the motor from the car, attaching the heatsink to the motor can using the provided mounting hardware, and reinstalling the motor in the vehicle.
  • Is the dual-fan design better than single-fan alternatives? — Twin-fan designs offer superior cooling performance compared to single-fan heatsinks because they provide dual airflow paths over the cooling fins. This improved air circulation translates to more effective heat removal from your motor, making it particularly beneficial during long racing sessions or high-demand driving scenarios where motor temperatures climb highest.
  • What makes aluminium better than plastic heatsinks? — Aluminium conducts heat approximately three times more efficiently than engineering plastics, meaning heat transfers away from your motor faster and more effectively. Additionally, anodised aluminium resists corrosion better than untreated materials, helping your heatsink maintain appearance and functionality even after exposure to moisture and outdoor elements during regular RC driving sessions.
