Overview
The Fastrax 1/8th Scale Silicone CVD Joint Cover FAST182 is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC enthusiasts maintaining their 1/8th scale vehicles. Whether you're running a high-performance RC buggy, truggy, or off-road truck, protecting your CVD joints is critical to ensuring longevity and reliable performance during intense bashings and competitive racing. This silicone joint cover is engineered to shield the constant velocity differential joints from dirt, dust, debris, and moisture that can accumulate during outdoor RC car use, whether you're racing on UK tracks or enjoying weekend sessions at your local RC park.
CVD joint covers are one of the most overlooked yet important maintenance items in RC car ownership. The constant velocity joints are vital transmission components that transfer power from the motor to the wheels while allowing the suspension to move freely. Without proper protection, these joints can become contaminated, leading to premature wear, increased friction, and ultimately transmission failure. The Fastrax 1/8th Scale Silicone CVD Joint Cover provides a cost-effective solution to extend the working life of your transmission system and reduce the frequency of expensive rebuilds and replacements.
Made from high-quality silicone material, this joint cover is specifically designed to fit 1/8th scale RC models. Silicone offers superior flexibility compared to rigid plastic covers, allowing it to move with the joint articulation whilst still maintaining a secure seal. This makes it ideal for serious RC hobbyists who want to keep their equipment in top condition without breaking the bank. Available now at RC Model Shop, this is a must-have spare part for anyone running a 1/8th scale RC car UK.
Key Features
- Silicone Construction — Made from premium silicone material that provides excellent flexibility and durability, allowing the cover to move with joint articulation without cracking or becoming brittle over extended use, ensuring long-term protection of your CVD joints.
- 1/8th Scale Compatibility — Engineered specifically for 1/8th scale RC vehicles, guaranteeing a precise fit that won't interfere with suspension movement or transmission operation on your RC buggy, truggy, or truck.
- Superior Protection — Creates an effective seal against dirt, sand, dust, mud, and water ingress, which is essential for maintaining clean and functioning CV joints during off-road bashing, track racing, and outdoor RC car sessions in various UK weather conditions.
- Easy Installation — Designed for straightforward fitment without requiring special tools or extensive disassembly of your transmission, allowing you to quickly refresh worn or damaged covers and get back to racing.
- Cost-Effective Maintenance — At just £5.49, this is an affordable preventative maintenance item that can save you hundreds of pounds by extending the lifespan of your expensive CVD joints and transmission components.
- Genuine Fastrax Product — Manufactured by Fastrax, a trusted name in RC upgrades and spare parts, ensuring you're getting a quality component that meets the same standards as original equipment.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax 1/8th Scale Silicone CVD Joint Cover represents the proper engineering approach to transmission protection in RC cars. Silicone material is chosen specifically because it maintains flexibility across a wide temperature range, which is essential for RC vehicles that operate in diverse UK environmental conditions from cold winter days to hot summer sessions. Unlike rigid plastic covers that can become brittle and crack, silicone flexes with the natural movement of the CVD joint during acceleration, cornering, and suspension articulation. This flexibility is critical because RC suspension systems are constantly moving, and a cover that cannot flex will either pop off or restrict joint movement, potentially damaging the transmission. The cover's design creates a seal tight enough to keep contamination out whilst remaining loose enough to not impose any additional drag or resistance on the drivetrain. This balance is what separates effective protective covers from those that merely look the part. By maintaining clean CVD joints, you directly improve the efficiency of power transfer from your motor to the wheels, potentially gaining slight performance improvements alongside the extended component life. The engineering of this cover makes it suitable for all driving conditions, from smooth tarmac surfaces to rough terrain, from dry weather to the typical damp conditions of UK RC tracks.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a CVD joint cover and why do I need one? — CVD joint covers protect your constant velocity differential joints from contamination. The CV joints are critical transmission components that can be damaged by dirt and moisture ingress, leading to expensive repairs or replacement. Installing protective covers as preventative maintenance is one of the most cost-effective investments you can make in maintaining your RC car.
- Why is silicone better than plastic for joint covers? — Silicone offers superior flexibility compared to rigid plastic, allowing it to move naturally with your suspension without cracking or becoming brittle. It also maintains its properties across a wider temperature range, making it ideal for RC cars used in varying UK weather conditions.
- Will this cover affect my transmission performance? — No, the Fastrax silicone cover is designed to provide protection without imposing any additional drag or resistance on the drivetrain. It creates a protective seal whilst remaining flexible enough not to restrict joint movement.
- How often should I replace CVD joint covers? — You should inspect your joint covers regularly during maintenance sessions. Replace them whenever they show signs of splitting, cracking, or if they're no longer sealing properly. Preventative replacement every season or every 20-30 hours of running is recommended for serious RC enthusiasts.
- Is this cover suitable for my 1/8th scale RC car? — Yes, the Fastrax 1/8th Scale Silicone CVD Joint Cover is engineered specifically for 1/8th scale RC vehicles. However, always verify fitment with your specific model before purchase, as CV joint sizes can vary between manufacturers and platforms.
- Can I use this cover if my joints are already damaged? — A joint cover is preventative protection, not a repair solution. If your CV joints are already damaged or making noise, you'll need to replace the joints themselves. Install a fresh cover once the new joints are in place.
