Overview

The Etronix 4kg/0.12s Standard Servo (ET2045) is a reliable, compact servo designed for RC enthusiasts looking for dependable control systems for their models. Whether you're building an RC car in the UK, setting up a new RC buggy, or maintaining an existing RC vehicle, this standard-sized servo delivers the performance and value you need. With a proven track record across countless RC applications, the Etronix ET2045 is particularly popular amongst hobbyists who demand consistent performance without the premium price tag of specialist alternatives.

This servo represents excellent value for money in the standard servo category, making it an ideal choice for beginners exploring the world of RC hobby models and experienced builders looking for cost-effective replacement or upgrade options. The compact 40.5 x 20.3 x 38.0mm dimensions mean it fits perfectly into standard servo bays found on most RC cars, buggies, and crawlers available in the UK market today. At just 45.5g, the lightweight design helps maintain optimal weight distribution in your RC model without compromising on strength or reliability.

The ET2045 comes supplied with everything you need to get started with servo installation: a full selection of servo horns for different link types, mounting rubber to reduce vibration transfer, and comprehensive hardware for secure installation. This complete package approach eliminates the frustration of having to source additional parts separately, getting your RC model operational faster and keeping overall project costs down.

Key Features

  • 4kg-cm Torque at 6.0V — This servo delivers sufficient rotational force to control steering, throttle, and other RC functions reliably, making it suitable for a wide range of standard RC vehicles from trail trucks to carpet racing buggies. The 4kg-cm specification provides excellent control authority without excessive power draw.
  • 0.12-Second Transit Time — The rapid 0.12 second response time at 6.0V means your steering inputs translate to model movement almost instantaneously, providing the crisp, responsive handling characteristics serious RC drivers demand. This speed is particularly valuable in racing applications where split-second steering corrections matter.
  • Plastic Gear Construction — The durable plastic gears strike an excellent balance between weight, cost, and performance. Plastic gears are forgiving during impacts and harsh terrain driving, absorbing shock loads that might crack or damage metal alternatives, whilst remaining strong enough for consistent daily use.
  • Plastic Case Housing — The lightweight plastic casing keeps overall servo weight low, contributing to better weight distribution in your RC model and reduced power consumption from your battery. The plastic construction also provides excellent corrosion resistance, important when your RC vehicle encounters damp UK weather or wet track conditions.
  • Standard Size Compatibility — The ET2045 uses industry-standard dimensions and mounting points, meaning it integrates seamlessly with virtually any RC car, buggy, crawler, or other standard-servo-equipped model. This universal compatibility makes it an excellent upgrade or replacement servo for existing RC vehicles.
  • Complete Accessory Kit Included — Rather than purchasing servo horns, mounting rubber, and fasteners separately, everything arrives in the box. This comprehensive approach saves money and ensures you have properly matched components designed to work together perfectly.
  • Futaba Compatible — The servo features Futaba-style connections, allowing straightforward integration with Futaba receivers and radio systems commonly used across UK RC hobbyists' setups. This compatibility extends to many third-party receivers using the same standard connector format.
  • 6.0V Optimised Performance — Specifications are rated at 6.0V NiMh voltage, which is the most common battery voltage used in standard RC applications. This rating ensures you get the advertised torque and speed figures from typical four-cell NiMh receiver packs.

Technical Performance

The Etronix ET2045 represents solid engineering fundamentals applied to a classic servo design. Its 4kg-cm torque specification at 6.0V delivers sufficient control force for steering, throttle management, and auxiliary functions across standard-sized RC vehicles. The 0.12-second transit time for a 60-degree sweep demonstrates response performance suitable for both casual driving and more competitive RC applications where input lag can affect lap times. The combination of plastic gears and plastic housing creates a lightweight servo package (just 45.5g) that minimises the servo's contribution to overall vehicle weight, an important consideration when optimising handling balance in RC cars, buggies, and trucks. The plastic gear construction, whilst not suitable for extreme bashing or competition abuse, provides excellent durability for normal RC use whilst remaining forgiving during crashes and rough terrain driving. At the compact 40.5 x 20.3 x 38.0mm dimensions, the ET2045 fits into standard servo mounting locations without requiring custom fabrication or modifications. The servo operates optimally at 6.0V NiMh battery voltage, which aligns perfectly with the four-cell receiver pack standard widely used across the UK RC hobby community. Build quality remains consistent with Etronix's reputation for delivering reliable RC components at accessible price points, making this servo an excellent choice whether you're building your first RC model or maintaining an existing fleet of vehicles.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Etronix ET2045 suitable for beginners new to RC? — Yes, absolutely. This servo is an excellent choice for beginners because it offers reliable performance, comes with everything needed for installation, and requires no special knowledge to set up. The standard sizing and Futaba compatibility mean it integrates easily with most beginner-level RC models and radio systems available in the UK. If you're just starting your RC journey, this servo will deliver dependable steering and throttle control whilst you learn the fundamentals.
  • What voltage does this servo need, and what battery should I use? — The Etronix ET2045 is rated for 6.0V NiMh operation, which corresponds to a standard four-cell NiMh receiver pack. This is the most common servo voltage across RC vehicles in the UK. You'll typically use a 4-cell NiMh receiver pack (4.8V nominal, 6.0V fresh) that powers both your receiver and servos. Never exceed 6.0V as this will damage the servo internally.
  • Can I use this servo with my Spektrum receiver? — Yes, this servo works with Spektrum receivers. The ET2045 uses standard servo connectors compatible with Spektrum's radio systems. Simply plug it into any available channel on your Spektrum receiver and bind your model normally. Many UK RC enthusiasts run Etronix servos successfully with Spektrum equipment.
  • What does 4kg-cm torque actually mean for my RC model? — The 4kg-cm torque specification means the servo can rotate a 1-centimetre arm with 4 kilograms of force applied, or equivalently, a 2-centimetre arm with 2 kilograms of force. For practical RC use, this translates to strong steering control and throttle responsiveness across most standard RC vehicles. It's sufficient for typical road and off-road driving without being so powerful that it demands excessive electrical power.
  • How fast does the ET2045 respond to control inputs? — The servo features 0.12-second transit time for a 60-degree rotation at 6.0V. This means when you move your transmitter stick, the servo physically completes a 60-degree movement in just 0.12 seconds. This rapid response is quick enough for responsive driving characteristics that won't feel sluggish or delayed, even in competitive racing situations where milliseconds matter.
  • Will this servo fit my RC model? — The standard 40.5 x 20.3 x 38.0mm dimensions mean the ET2045 fits any standard servo bay. If your RC vehicle is designed for standard-sized servos (which describes the vast majority of RC cars, buggies, crawlers, and trucks), this servo will fit without any modifications. The only exception would be micro-scale models that specifically require ultra-compact servo sizes.
  • What's included with the servo, and do I need to buy anything else? — The ET2045 comes complete with servo horns, mounting rubber, and hardware. You'll still need to provide a receiver, radio transmitter, and battery pack suitable for your RC model, but the servo itself arrives ready to install without purchasing additional accessories.
  • How does the plastic gear construction affect durability? — Plastic gears provide excellent durability for normal RC use. They're forgiving during impacts and crashes, absorbing shock loads that might crack metal gears. For bashing and off-road driving, plastic gears often outperform metal alternatives because they flex slightly rather than fracture. However, they're not suitable for extreme competition abuse or continuous high-load use. For standard RC driving—whether casual weekend bashing or local racing—plastic gears are perfectly adequate.
