Overview

The Etronix 45cm 22AWG Futaba Twisted Extension Wire ET0736 is an essential servo extension lead for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliable, interference-free signal transmission. Whether you're building a competitive RC car, crawler, plane, helicopter or boat, this twisted-pair extension lead is designed to minimise electrical noise over longer cable runs, ensuring your servos respond with precision and consistency. At 45cm in length, this lead strikes the perfect balance between flexibility and practicality, allowing you to route servo connections exactly where you need them whilst keeping your RC wiring neat, organised and professional-looking.

This twisted-pair design is particularly valuable when working with high-torque servos or in setups where signal wires must run alongside power cables. The twisted configuration of the two conductors creates a balanced pair that cancels out electromagnetic interference, a critical consideration for anyone serious about maximising their model's performance. The 22AWG wire gauge provides an optimal balance between current capacity and flexibility, making it suitable for standard servo applications across most RC platforms. The male-to-female Futaba-style connector features a keyed housing and clear polarity markings, ensuring stress-free, secure connections with zero risk of reverse polarity damage.

RC Model Shop stocks this trusted eTronix extension lead in multiple lengths to suit your specific requirements. The 45cm version is ideal for mid-range servo placement and cable routing scenarios where you need significant reach without excessive wire slack. Available in stock and ready to ship, this is the kind of reliable, quality accessory that separates neat, professional RC builds from hastily assembled setups.

Key Features

  • Twisted-pair conductor design — The two signal conductors are twisted together, which actively cancels out electromagnetic interference and noise that could degrade servo response, making this ideal for longer cable runs or installations near high-current motor wires.
  • 22AWG wire gauge — This gauge provides excellent current capacity for standard servos whilst maintaining flexibility for routing through tight spaces, strikes the ideal balance for most RC applications without being oversized or underpowered.
  • 45cm (450mm) length — Offers substantial reach for mid-range servo placement and cable routing scenarios, providing flexibility without creating excessive wire slack or weight penalty.
  • Futaba-style connectors — Features universal/JR/Futaba-compatible male-to-female plugs with keyed housings that prevent reverse polarity connections and ensure a secure, positive engagement every time.
  • Clear polarity markings — Colour-coded or marked connectors make it immediately obvious which wire carries signal and ground, eliminating guesswork during installation and reducing risk of wiring errors.
  • Universal compatibility — Works with any RC model using standard Futaba servo connectors, whether you're setting up a race car, scale crawler, fixed-wing plane, helicopter or boat.

Technical Performance

The Etronix ET0736 is engineered with precision and reliability in mind, employing twisted-pair conductor technology that actively suppresses electromagnetic interference—a phenomenon that becomes increasingly problematic as cable lengths increase or when servo signal lines must share routing space with high-current motor wiring. The 22AWG conductor size is selected to provide adequate current capacity for standard servo motors whilst maintaining the flexibility required for practical installation in confined spaces and complex cable management scenarios. The twisted configuration works by ensuring that any external electromagnetic fields induce equal and opposite voltages in the paired conductors, which then cancel each other out at the receiver end, preserving signal integrity. The male-to-female Futaba-style connector design follows industry-standard polarity conventions with keyed housings that physically prevent reverse-polarity connections—a critical safety feature that protects your servo electronics from potential damage. Professional RC builders recognise that servo extension leads are not commodities; they're critical infrastructure that directly impacts model performance. Poor-quality or inappropriately-specified extensions can introduce servo lag, jitter, or complete signal dropout, particularly over longer distances or in electrically noisy environments. The eTronix approach to design prioritises signal purity and mechanical reliability, ensuring your servo commands arrive clean and intact every single time.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does twisted-pair extension lead mean and why should I use one? — A twisted-pair extension lead features two signal conductors twisted together rather than running parallel. This design actively cancels electromagnetic interference from nearby power wires and motor noise, resulting in cleaner, more responsive servo control. If you're running servo signal wires near high-current ESC or motor cables, or if your servo placement requires a longer cable run, a twisted-pair lead will give you noticeably better performance than a standard extension.
  • Is the ET0736 suitable for high-torque servos? — Yes, the 22AWG wire gauge provides adequate current capacity for standard and high-torque servos. However, if you're consistently using multiple high-current servos very close together with extremely high current demand, you may want to consult the servo manufacturer's specifications to confirm compatibility. For the vast majority of RC car, crawler, plane, helicopter and boat applications, this gauge is perfectly appropriate.
  • What's the difference between the Futaba connector version (ET0736) and the JR version (ET0736J)? — The only difference is the connector style. The ET0736 uses Futaba-pattern connectors, whilst the ET0736J uses JR-pattern connectors. Both feature identical twisted-pair wire construction and 22AWG gauge. Choose based on what receiver or servo connectors you already have installed on your RC model.
  • How long is the ET0736? — The ET0736 is 45cm (450mm) in length. eTronix offers this twisted-pair extension in multiple lengths from 7cm right up to 120cm, allowing you to choose the perfect length for your specific installation. The 45cm version provides significant reach for mid-to-rear servo placement without excessive slack.
  • Why choose eTronix over other extension leads? — eTronix twisted-pair extensions are recognised across the UK RC community for consistent quality and reliability. The keyed Futaba connectors with clear polarity markings eliminate connection errors, whilst the twisted-pair construction ensures signal integrity over longer runs. These are the kind of quality accessories that serious RC enthusiasts choose when building competition or high-performance models.
  • What should I do when installing this extension lead? — Route the signal lead away from high-current motor and ESC wires to minimise interference. Secure the cable with cable ties to keep your build neat and prevent the lead from catching on moving parts. For hard-running models, consider using locking tabs or clip retainers on the connector to prevent accidental disconnection during use. Always double-check polarity before connecting to ensure you have positive and signal wires correct.
