Overview
The Carisma M40S Aluminium Racing Oil Shock Set (CA16644) represents a premium suspension upgrade for serious RC enthusiasts looking to enhance their M40S touring car's performance on the track. This four-piece shock absorber set is specifically engineered to deliver superior handling characteristics, improved cornering stability and refined damping control that competitive drivers demand. Whether you're competing in UK RC racing events or simply pushing your machine to its limits during weekend track sessions, these aluminium racing shocks provide the precision tuning platform needed to extract maximum performance from your M40S chassis.
Built with high-grade aluminium construction, this shock set exemplifies Carisma's commitment to quality engineering and professional-grade RC components. These are not beginner-level parts; they represent a serious investment in your RC car's suspension geometry and performance capabilities. The shocks have been specifically developed for the Carisma M40S series, ensuring perfect compatibility and optimised performance with your existing chassis. If you're searching for quality RC car suspension upgrades in the UK, or looking to improve your touring car's track performance, this shock set delivers the engineering excellence you need.
The set requires assembly and shock oil to complete, giving builders the flexibility to select their preferred damping characteristics by choosing the appropriate oil viscosity. This level of customisation is what separates serious racing setups from standard equipment, and it's why these aluminium shocks are preferred by dedicated RC competitors across the UK and beyond.
Key Features
- High-Grade Aluminium Construction — Manufactured from premium aluminium alloy, these shock bodies offer exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, reducing unsprung mass whilst maintaining structural rigidity that prevents flex and ensures consistent damping response under aggressive cornering and acceleration.
- Narrowed Shock Bodies — The shock bodies feature a narrowed design specifically engineered to maintain full steering lock without interference or binding, allowing your M40S to achieve maximum turning angles without compromising suspension geometry or creating mechanical binding that would compromise handling.
- Specifically Developed for M40S Series — These shocks are purpose-built for the Carisma M40S and M40S 2.0 chassis, ensuring perfect fitment and optimised performance characteristics that match the chassis design and weight distribution for balanced handling across all track conditions.
- Professional Oil Shock Technology — The shocks operate on oil-filled damping principles, providing smooth, progressive damping curves that absorb track imperfections whilst maintaining consistent suspension response throughout extended racing sessions without performance degradation.
- Requires Assembly — These shocks come unassembled, allowing experienced builders to prepare them according to their specific setup preferences and giving you control over the assembly process and final configuration of your suspension system.
- Customisable Damping with 25WT Oil — The manufacturer recommends 25WT shock oil, providing you with a tuning baseline that can be adjusted by using different viscosity oils to fine-tune your chassis behaviour for different track conditions, weather, and driving styles.
Technical Performance
These aluminium racing shocks represent a significant performance upgrade over standard plastic shock options, delivering superior handling characteristics through their precision-engineered construction and professional-grade materials. The high-grade aluminium bodies resist flex and deformation under cornering loads, maintaining consistent ride height and suspension geometry even during extended racing sessions where temperatures rise and forces increase. The oil-filled damping system provides progressive damping that absorbs kerb strikes and track imperfections whilst maintaining suspension compliance for tyre contact. The narrowed design is particularly important for M40S owners running maximum steering lock, as it eliminates interference and binding that compromises handling feel. The shocks are designed to work with 25WT oil as a baseline, though experienced builders can experiment with heavier or lighter oils to adjust damping stiffness. This modular approach to suspension tuning is essential for competitive touring car racing, where small adjustments in damping, ride height and anti-roll bar setup can mean the difference between victory and defeat on track. The four-piece set provides complete front and rear suspension coverage, ensuring balanced handling characteristics across the entire chassis.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What oil should I use in these Carisma M40S aluminium racing shocks? — The manufacturer specifically recommends 25WT shock oil as the baseline specification. This viscosity provides a balanced damping curve suitable for general track use. More experienced racers can experiment with heavier oils (30WT, 35WT) for stiffer damping on smooth tracks, or lighter oils (20WT) for more compliant suspension on bumpy circuits. The ability to adjust damping through oil selection is one of the key performance advantages of quality oil shocks over spring-based systems.
- Are these shocks suitable for complete beginners to RC racing? — These are specialist racing components designed for experienced RC car enthusiasts and competitive racers rather than beginners. They require assembly, oil filling and proper tuning knowledge to achieve optimal performance. If you're new to RC racing, standard shocks may be more appropriate while you develop your skills. However, if you're upgrading an existing M40S and have some RC experience, these shocks represent an excellent investment in improved handling.
- Do these shocks fit the Carisma M40S 2.0? — Yes, these shocks are specifically developed for both the original M40S and the newer M40S 2.0 chassis, ensuring complete compatibility with both generations of this popular touring car platform.
- What is the difference between these aluminium shocks and plastic shocks? — Aluminium shocks offer superior strength, reduced flex, better temperature stability and more consistent damping characteristics compared to plastic alternatives. The aluminium bodies resist deformation under cornering loads, maintaining suspension geometry precision throughout extended racing sessions. Aluminium shocks also typically offer better tuning precision through oil viscosity selection, making them the preferred choice for competitive drivers.
- Do I need to upgrade all four shocks at once? — For optimal handling balance and consistency, upgrading all four shocks together is strongly recommended. A complete set ensures front and rear suspension characteristics match, preventing handling imbalances that compromise cornering speed and driver confidence.
- Can I use different oil viscosities in front and rear shocks? — Yes, experienced tuners often use different oil weights in front and rear to fine-tune anti-roll characteristics and balance handling. However, starting with 25WT throughout is recommended until you understand how your chassis responds to damping adjustments.
