Overview

The Corally M1.0 Pinion Short Hardened Steel 16 Teeth Shaft Dia. 5mm is a precision-engineered pinion gear designed for high-performance 1/8 scale RC car UK enthusiasts who demand reliability and exact gear ratios. Whether you're running a brushless motor system on your competition buggy, truggy or truck, this hardened steel pinion delivers the durability and concentricity required for vibration-free operation at any track. Team Corally has built a reputation for manufacturing gears to the highest European standards, and this 16-tooth pinion exemplifies their commitment to precision engineering and uncompromising quality.

This is not a toy component—it's a critical drivetrain element manufactured using special hardened steel and CNC cutting techniques to ensure perfect tooth shaping and ultra-true running characteristics. If you're upgrading your RC car setup, fine-tuning your gear ratio for a specific track condition, or rebuilding your transmission after a hard season of racing, the Corally M1.0 pinion offers the performance and longevity you need. The 16-tooth configuration sits in the middle of the gearing spectrum, making it ideal for all-round performance across various track types and conditions. Available exclusively for MOD1 pitch gears—the standard specification for 1/8 scale competition RC vehicles—this pinion is compatible with all cars using MOD1 gearing systems.

Every Corally pinion gear is individually marked with the tooth number for easy and quick identification, ensuring you never mix up your gears when managing multiple setups or swapping between track-specific ratios. This attention to detail is what sets Team Corally apart from generic, mass-produced alternatives. When you're investing time and money into your RC hobby, you deserve components engineered with precision and manufactured to the highest standards. The Corally M1.0 pinion short hardened steel represents the pinnacle of European gear manufacturing technology applied to RC racing.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The gear is manufactured from specially hardened steel that provides exceptional toughness and durability under the extreme stresses of competition racing. This material choice ensures your pinion can handle repeated high-torque loads without stripping, cracking or wearing prematurely, giving you consistent performance run after run.
  • CNC Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Every tooth is precisely cut using CNC machinery to achieve perfect tooth shaping and unparalleled concentricity, which means the gear runs dead-centre without any runout or wobbling. This precise manufacturing eliminates vibration that would otherwise rob performance and damage your bearings over time.
  • Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The combination of hardened steel, CNC cutting and precision tolerances ensures the pinion runs with absolute smoothness. This vibration-free operation translates directly to more efficient power transfer, cooler running temperatures and longer bearing life in your RC car UK setup.
  • MOD1 Module Specification — The MOD1 (Module 1.0) pitch is the universal standard for 1/8 scale RC racing vehicles worldwide. This pinion works seamlessly with all MOD1 spur gears and differentials, making it the correct choice for any modern 1/8 scale competition buggy, truggy or truck.
  • 16-Tooth Gearing Configuration — The 16-tooth count provides a mid-range gear ratio ideal for balanced acceleration and top speed performance. This tooth count is popular among competitors running various track types and offers versatility whether you're racing on carpet, asphalt or outdoor clay surfaces.
  • 5.0mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — The pinion features a 5.0mm bore to fit standard brushless and brushed motor shafts used in 1/8 scale RC vehicles. This is the universal shaft diameter for modern 1/8 scale racing motors, ensuring compatibility with all major brands.
  • Marked Tooth Number for Quick Identification — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth count, allowing you to quickly identify and select the correct gear when managing multiple setups or swapping ratios between races.
  • Made in Europe to Exacting Standards — Manufactured in Europe using the latest precision engineering technology, every Corally pinion is built to exacting tolerances that you simply won't find in budget alternatives sourced from elsewhere.
  • Available in All Gearing Sizes — Corally produces this pinion in multiple tooth counts, allowing you to dial in the perfect gear ratio for your specific track conditions, motor KV rating and desired performance characteristics.

Technical Performance

This 16-tooth pinion gear occupies the sweet spot in the gearing range for 1/8 scale RC racing. The technical specifications reveal a gear engineered for serious competition: it measures 13.00mm in overall length with a tooth width of 6.20mm, providing substantial contact area for power transfer. The 5.0mm motor shaft diameter accommodates all standard 1/8 scale brushless and brushed motors, whilst the MOD1 specification ensures compatibility with spur gears and differentials across every major RC brand manufacturing 1/8 scale vehicles. The hardened steel material provides superior wear resistance and toughness compared to standard steel alternatives, which is critical when you're experiencing repeated meshing at high speeds and high loads. The CNC manufacturing process guarantees precise tooth geometry and concentricity, which directly impacts drivetrain efficiency and bearing longevity. Whether you're running a high-KV brushless motor system generating significant torque, or optimising your setup for maximum acceleration out of corners, this pinion delivers the reliability and performance characteristics expected of Team Corally products. The precision manufacturing also means minimal backlash in the gear mesh, translating to sharper throttle response and more predictable handling characteristics on your RC car. The 2.0mm hex key size (mentioned in the full specifications) indicates the grub screw sizing for secure installation on your motor shaft.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why do I need to replace it? — A pinion gear is the small gear attached to your motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear in your transmission. Over time, pinion gears wear down or become damaged through racing and bashing. Replacing it with a quality alternative like this Corally unit restores smooth, efficient power delivery and prevents excessive vibration that damages other drivetrain components. If you're experiencing unusual grinding noises or power loss, your pinion may need replacement.
  • How does the 16-tooth configuration compare to other options? — Pinion tooth count directly affects your gear ratio. A 16-tooth pinion offers mid-range gearing; lower tooth counts (13, 14, 15) provide more acceleration and lower top speed, whilst higher counts (17, 18, 19) offer more top speed and lower acceleration. The 16-tooth is the most versatile option for all-round racing on various track types without being too specialised towards either extreme.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a quality component, it's designed specifically for 1/8 scale competition vehicles rather than entry-level ready-to-run RC cars. If you're new to RC and own a basic ready-to-run model, check your vehicle's gearing specifications first. This pinion is ideal for anyone running or upgrading a serious 1/8 scale buggy, truggy or truck setup.
  • What makes Corally pinions different from cheaper alternatives? — Corally gears are manufactured in Europe using CNC machinery to achieve precise tooth geometry and concentricity, whilst cheaper alternatives often use lower-grade steel and less precise manufacturing. This translates to longer component life, smoother operation, better bearing protection and more consistent performance over an entire racing season. The hardened steel also resists wear far better than standard steel options.
  • Will this work with my motor? — This pinion features a 5.0mm bore designed to fit standard 1/8 scale brushless and brushed motor shafts. Virtually all modern 1/8 scale RC motors use 5.0mm shafts, but check your specific motor's documentation to confirm. The MOD1 specification also requires your vehicle to use MOD1 spur gears and differentials.
  • How long does a pinion gear last? — Lifespan depends on usage intensity. Racing competitors may replace pinions every season or two, whilst casual bashers might get several years of use. The hardened steel construction of this Corally pinion significantly extends durability compared to standard alternatives, helping you get more racing seasons from your investment.
  • What tools do I need to install this? — Installation requires a 2.0mm hex key (Allen key) to tighten the grub screw that secures the pinion to your motor shaft. You'll also need to remove your old pinion—typically a simple process using the same hex key. Refer to your vehicle's manual for specific installation instructions.
