Overview

The Team Corally 32 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 20 Teeth Shaft Dia. 5mm (C-72520) is a premium-quality motor pinion gear engineered for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand precision, durability and reliability in their racing setup. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning your RC buggy or an experienced basher looking to optimise your gear ratios, this hardened steel pinion delivers the performance characteristics needed to extract maximum potential from your brushless motor. Manufactured in Europe with exacting tolerances and precision engineering, this pinion represents the gold standard in aftermarket motor gearing for modern electric RC cars running 32DP gearing systems.

Team Corally has engineered this 20-tooth pinion specifically for drivers who want to balance acceleration and top speed, or who are running higher-KV brushless motors that benefit from slightly lower gear ratios. The 20T option provides excellent versatility across different track conditions and motor specifications, making it an ideal choice for both 1/10 scale touring cars and other RC vehicles that utilise 32DP gearing and 5mm motor shafts. This is a genuine Team Corally part manufactured to strict quality standards, offering the concentricity and tooth precision that separates competition-grade components from budget alternatives.

RC enthusiasts in the UK will appreciate the engineering heritage behind this component. Rather than settling for low-cost pinions that generate vibration and noise, the Corally C-72520 delivers smooth, vibration-free operation thanks to its ultra-precise tooth shaping and true running characteristics. The hardened steel construction ensures this pinion will withstand thousands of acceleration cycles, maintaining its geometry and performance long-term, even under the demanding conditions of competitive racing or aggressive bashing.

Key Features

  • Hardened Steel Construction — This pinion is manufactured from specially formulated hardened steel that provides exceptional durability and resistance to wear, ensuring consistent performance over extended use and maintaining its precision through countless racing sessions or bashing runs.
  • CNC-Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Each tooth is precisely cut on a specialised gear machine using CNC technology, guaranteeing perfect tooth geometry and perfect concentricity that eliminates the vibration, noise and inefficiency found in lower-quality pinions.
  • Ultra-True Running — The precision manufacturing ensures this pinion runs true without wobble or runout, delivering smooth engagement with your spur gear and minimising energy loss whilst maximising efficiency transfer from motor to drivetrain.
  • 32DP Gear Pitch — This pinion is designed to work seamlessly with all 32DP spur gears, the industry standard for modern 1/10 scale RC cars and similar platforms, offering you complete compatibility with competition and aftermarket gearing options.
  • 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — The 5mm bore diameter fits standard brushless motors with 5mm output shafts, the most common specification for modern 1/10 scale electric RC vehicles, ensuring universal compatibility across brands and models.
  • Easy Identification — Each pinion is permanently marked with its tooth count (20T in this case), enabling quick and accurate identification during setup, changes or maintenance work without confusion or mistakes.
  • 20-Tooth Configuration — The 20-tooth count represents an excellent mid-range option providing balanced acceleration and top speed characteristics, ideal for drivers seeking versatility across varied track layouts and racing conditions.
  • Compact Short Design — The short pinion format minimises overall spur-to-pinion assembly length, contributing to lower centre of gravity and improved handling geometry in your RC car setup.
  • European Manufacturing — Built to exacting standards at Team Corally's European facilities, this component represents quality comparable to original factory parts supplied with competition-grade RC vehicles.
  • Precise Tolerances — Manufacturing tolerances are controlled to ensure perfect fit with your motor shaft and spur gear, eliminating play, noise and the premature wear associated with loose or sloppy gearing.

Technical Performance

The Team Corally C-72520 pinion represents a significant performance upgrade over stock or budget pinions. Manufactured from special hardened steel and cut on precision CNC equipment, this component delivers the concentricity and tooth precision essential for vibration-free operation in high-performance RC cars. The 20-tooth specification offers an excellent compromise between acceleration and top speed, making it suitable for diverse racing applications from tight, technical track layouts requiring rapid acceleration, through to more open circuits where slightly higher top speed becomes advantageous. The 5mm motor shaft bore ensures compatibility with the vast majority of brushless motors used in 1/10 scale electric RC cars throughout the UK and internationally. The teeth width of 6.2mm and overall gear length of 13mm ensure proper engagement with standard 32DP spur gears whilst maintaining the compact geometry preferred by modern RC car designers. Installation is straightforward using the included 2.0mm hex key to secure the pinion to your motor shaft. The hardened steel material resists deformation and wear far better than aluminium or softer steel alternatives, meaning your investment in this component will deliver thousands of kilometres of reliable service before requiring replacement. Whether you're preparing for competition racing, casual weekend track days, or aggressive off-road bashing, the engineering quality embedded in this Team Corally pinion ensures consistent, predictable performance lap after lap.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the gear ratio when using this 20-tooth pinion with my spur gear? — Gear ratio is calculated by dividing your spur gear tooth count by this pinion's tooth count (20T). For example, a 48-tooth spur gear paired with this 20T pinion produces a 2.4:1 ratio, whilst a 60-tooth spur delivers a 3.0:1 ratio. Higher ratios favour acceleration; lower ratios favour top speed.
  • Which RC cars is this pinion compatible with? — This pinion fits any RC car using 32DP gearing and featuring a 5mm motor shaft, which includes most modern 1/10 scale touring cars, buggies, truggies and off-road platforms from brands including Traxxas, Team Associated, HB Racing, Losi and many others. Check your vehicle's motor specifications to confirm compatibility.
  • Why should I upgrade from a standard pinion to this Team Corally component? — Budget pinions often feature imprecise tooth geometry and poor concentricity, causing vibration, noise and energy loss that reduces acceleration smoothness and overall performance. The CNC-cut teeth and hardened steel construction of the C-72520 eliminate these issues, delivering noticeably smoother acceleration, better efficiency and longer component lifespan, particularly important for competitive drivers.
  • How often will I need to replace this pinion? — With proper maintenance including regular cleaning and periodic lubrication of the gear mesh, this hardened steel pinion will typically deliver 50+ hours of running before wear becomes noticeable. Budget pinions may require replacement after 10-15 hours. Proper spur gear maintenance extends pinion life significantly.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst beginners can certainly use this pinion, the main benefit over budget alternatives is precision and longevity rather than ease of use. Beginners benefit more from initially learning proper gear mesh setup and maintenance with any 32DP pinion, then upgrading to premium components like this once they understand how gearing affects performance.
  • What is the difference between the 20-tooth version and other tooth counts? — Tooth count directly affects your gear ratio and thus vehicle behaviour. Fewer teeth (e.g., 19T) create lower ratios with stronger acceleration and lower top speed; more teeth (e.g., 22T) create higher ratios with weaker acceleration but higher top speed. The 20T represents a balanced middle ground.
  • Do I need any tools to install this pinion? — You'll need a 2.0mm hex key (included with many motor kits or available separately) to secure the pinion to your motor shaft. Some drivers also use a pinion puller tool to remove old pinions, though a small bearing puller works effectively.
