The Corally 32 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 14 Teeth Shaft Dia. 3.17mm (C-71514) is a precision-engineered motor pinion gear designed for high-performance RC cars and competitive racing. This professional-grade component represents the pinnacle of gear manufacturing, utilising special hardened steel construction and CNC precision cutting to deliver unparalleled reliability and durability. Whether you're running a 1/10 scale RC buggy, stadium truck, or short-course racing machine, this pinion gear offers the exact specifications needed to optimise your vehicle's performance and gear ratios. RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand the best will appreciate the meticulous engineering that goes into every Corally pinion gear.

Team Corally has built a reputation as one of Europe's most respected RC manufacturers, and their commitment to quality is evident in every product they produce. This 14-tooth pinion is manufactured to exacting standards using state-of-the-art CNC machinery, ensuring that each gear tooth is perfectly shaped with absolute concentricity and true running characteristics. The result is vibration-free operation that translates directly into better handling, faster acceleration, and more consistent performance on the track. For RC car enthusiasts in the UK who take their hobby seriously, whether competing in club races or simply demanding the best performance from their vehicles, the Corally 32 DP pinion range offers the reliability and precision that separates champion-level setups from standard builds.

This particular 14-tooth configuration is ideal for drivers seeking a balanced gear ratio that provides good acceleration without sacrificing top-end speed. The 32 DP (diametral pitch) specification means this pinion is compatible with all standard 32 DP spur gears found in modern RC cars, making it a direct replacement or upgrade option for your existing setup. The 3.17mm motor shaft diameter ensures perfect fitment with standard 540-class brush motors and equivalent brushless motors that feature 3.17mm output shafts.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — Manufactured from premium hardened steel rather than standard steel or aluminium, providing exceptional durability, wear resistance, and longevity even under extreme racing conditions and repeated use. This material choice ensures your pinion will maintain its tooth profile and concentricity for thousands of hours of reliable operation without degradation.
  • CNC-Cut Precision Teeth — Every tooth is precisely machined using advanced CNC (Computer Numerical Control) equipment to achieve perfect tooth shaping and geometry. This manufacturing process eliminates the inconsistencies found in stamped or moulded gears, resulting in smooth engagement with your spur gear and dramatically reduced vibration during acceleration and deceleration.
  • Perfect Concentricity — The gear is manufactured with ultra-precise tolerances that ensure the centre bore runs perfectly true with the gear teeth. This concentricity is critical for vibration-free operation, smooth power delivery, and extended bearing life in your motor, as any run-out would cause binding and efficiency loss.
  • Ultra-True Running — The combination of CNC precision and hardened steel results in gears that run with minimal radial run-out. This means smoother power transmission, less mechanical noise, reduced energy loss to vibration, and improved overall vehicle handling characteristics that are immediately noticeable on the track.
  • 32 DP Gear Pitch — The 32 DP specification is the industry standard for most modern 1/10 scale RC cars, buggies, trucks, and stadium vehicles sold in the UK market. This universal compatibility means you can easily swap this pinion into any car designed for 32 DP gears without modification to the drivetrain.
  • 14-Tooth Configuration — The 14-tooth count provides an excellent balance between acceleration and top speed, making this pinion suitable for a wide variety of driving styles and track layouts. It's neither too aggressive nor too conservative, offering versatility for both circuit racing and general hobby use.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — The precisely-sized 3.17mm bore fits standard 540-size brush motors and equivalent brushless motors with 3.17mm shafts, ensuring a secure fit with proper concentricity. This is the most common motor shaft diameter in modern 1/10 RC cars available in the UK.
  • Easy Identification — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth number (14T in this case), making it simple to quickly identify which pinion is installed in your vehicle or which one you need to order as a replacement. This eliminates confusion when maintaining multiple RC cars or when storing spare parts.
  • Compact Short Design — The short pinion configuration (9mm length) minimises weight and inertia while maximising ground clearance and reducing the overall size of your motor assembly. This compact form factor makes it ideal for vehicles with tight motor mounts or restricted space in the motor cavity.
  • Made in Europe — Manufactured in Europe using European engineering standards and quality control procedures. This ensures consistency, reliability, and support from a brand with direct access to replacement parts and technical expertise.
  • M32 Module Specification — The 32 DP pitch means this pinion meshes perfectly with standard 32 DP spur gears, ensuring smooth, efficient power transfer from your motor through the drivetrain to the wheels of your RC car.

Technical Performance

The Corally 32 DP Pinion represents a significant step up in gear quality compared to standard stamped or sintered alternatives. The hardened steel construction provides a Rockwell hardness that resists deformation under the intense stresses of high-speed RC racing. The 14-tooth count combined with standard 32 DP sizing creates a versatile gear ratio suitable for most 1/10 scale electric powered vehicles and brushless RC cars available to UK enthusiasts. The CNC precision cutting ensures that tooth engagement with your main spur gear is perfectly smooth across the full width of the teeth, which measures 4mm on this model. The total gear length of just 9mm provides an extremely compact package that won't interfere with motor clearance in tight motor bays. The 1.5mm hex key sizing indicates the drive method for securely fastening the pinion to your 3.17mm motor shaft without risk of slipping or wobbling during acceleration. This precision engineering approach means you're not just buying a motor pinion gear—you're investing in the fundamental component that dictates how efficiently your motor's power is transferred to the wheels of your RC car.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why do I need one for my RC car? — A pinion gear is the small gear that mounts directly onto your motor shaft and transfers rotational power from the motor to the main spur gear in your transmission. The ratio between your pinion teeth and spur teeth determines your overall gear ratio, which directly affects your vehicle's acceleration and top speed. By changing pinions, you can fine-tune your RC car's performance characteristics without replacing the entire drivetrain.
  • Will this 14-tooth pinion fit my RC car? — This pinion will fit any RC car that uses a 32 DP gear pitch system with a 3.17mm motor shaft diameter. Most modern 1/10 scale electric RC buggies, stadium trucks, short-course trucks, and street cars manufactured in the last decade use this exact specification. However, you should verify your vehicle's specifications before purchasing. If your car uses a different motor shaft diameter (such as 2mm or 2.5mm) or a different gear pitch (such as 48 DP or 64 DP), this pinion will not be compatible.
  • What's the difference between a 14-tooth pinion and other tooth counts? — A lower tooth count (such as 13T) creates a lower gear ratio, providing stronger acceleration but reducing top speed. A higher tooth count (such as 15T or 16T) creates a higher gear ratio, allowing greater top speed but requiring more motor power for the same acceleration. The 14-tooth pinion sits right in the middle, making it ideal for drivers who want a balance of both characteristics across varied track layouts and driving conditions.
  • Why is hardened steel better than aluminium? — Hardened steel is significantly more durable than aluminium, resisting both deformation and tooth wear much better during intensive use. While aluminium is lighter, the modest weight saving doesn't compensate for the durability benefits that hardened steel provides, especially for competitive racing where gear failure mid-race is unacceptable. Most serious RC racers in the UK prefer hardened steel pinions for this reason.
  • What does CNC-cut mean and why does it matter? — CNC (Computer Numerical Control) cutting means each tooth is machined by a computer-guided machine tool to exact specifications, rather than being stamped or moulded. This results in perfectly consistent tooth profiles with no variation between teeth, ensuring smooth meshing, reduced vibration, and efficient power transfer. Budget pinions often use cheaper stamping or moulding methods that result in slight variations in tooth shape, causing vibration and power loss.
  • Is this pinion suitable for beginners? — Yes, this pinion is suitable for any RC enthusiast regardless of experience level. Beginners will benefit from the improved durability and smooth operation, whilst experienced racers will appreciate the precision engineering and consistent performance. This is not an exotic or specialist component—it's a professional-quality upgrade to a standard part found in all RC cars.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and inspection, a hardened steel pinion like this should last for many hundreds of hours of use. You should inspect it regularly for tooth damage or wear, particularly the leading edges of the teeth. If you notice chipping, cracking, or significant wear, it's time to replace it. Most RC racers replace pinions annually or when signs of wear become visible.
