Key Features

  • Hardened Steel Construction — Manufactured from special hardened steel material that provides exceptional toughness and durability, ensuring your pinion can withstand the stresses of high-speed racing, hard acceleration, and competitive driving without premature wear or tooth stripping.
  • CNC-Cut Teeth with Perfect Shaping — Every tooth is precision-cut using specialist CNC machinery to achieve perfect tooth geometry and concentricity, which eliminates runout and delivers smooth, vibration-free operation that translates to better handling and more responsive acceleration in your RC car.
  • Ultra-True Running Characteristics — The combination of precise manufacturing tolerances and CNC cutting ensures that this pinion runs with exceptional concentricity, minimising vibration and noise whilst maximising the efficiency of power transfer from your motor to the gearbox.
  • 48 DP Module Standard — This pinion is manufactured to the 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) standard, which is widely used across competitive and hobby-grade RC vehicles, ensuring compatibility with most modern 48 DP gearboxes and drivetrain components available in the RC market today.
  • 32-Tooth Configuration — The 32-tooth count provides a balanced gear ratio suitable for a wide variety of track conditions and driving styles, allowing you to find the perfect setup for your specific RC car without excessive gearing changes.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed specifically for motors with 3.17mm output shafts, this pinion ensures a secure, precise fit with minimal play, which is essential for reliable power transmission and consistent performance during high-speed runs.
  • Individual Tooth Number Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth count, making it incredibly easy to quickly identify and organise your pinion collection, and helping you avoid confusion when swapping gears between different RC vehicles or setups.
  • Compact Short Profile — The short pinion design keeps your drivetrain compact and efficient, reducing excess weight whilst maintaining the structural integrity needed for professional-grade performance in competitive and recreational RC racing.

Technical Performance

The Corally C-71432 pinion gear represents the pinnacle of precision engineering in RC component manufacturing. Machined from special hardened steel using advanced CNC equipment, this 32-tooth pinion delivers the concentricity, tooth shaping accuracy, and reliability that separates professional-grade components from budget alternatives. The gear pitch is 48 DP (Diametral Pitch), a standard measurement used across the RC industry that indicates how many teeth the gear has per unit of pitch diameter — in this case, 48 teeth per inch. With 32 teeth total, this pinion gear is designed to work seamlessly with compatible gearboxes in modern RC vehicles. The shaft diameter of 3.17mm is a standard size for brushless and high-performance brushed motors commonly used in electric RC cars throughout the UK and beyond. The teeth width measures 4.00mm and the overall gear length is 9.00mm, creating a compact profile that minimises drivetrain complexity whilst maintaining maximum strength. The gear requires a 1.5mm hex key for removal and installation, a common standard that makes maintenance straightforward. This pinion's precision tolerances ensure vibration-free operation, which is critical for maintaining traction, preventing premature wear on mating gears, and delivering consistent lap times in competitive racing scenarios. The hardened steel material provides excellent resistance to tooth stripping and wear, meaning this pinion will outlast softer alternatives even under the demands of serious racing or aggressive bashing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why do I need to replace mine? — A pinion gear is the small gear that attaches to your motor shaft and transfers rotational power to the main gearbox. Over time, pinion teeth can wear down, chip, or strip due to high-speed use, aggressive acceleration, or poor-quality components. Replacing a worn pinion with a new Corally precision gear restores smooth power delivery, eliminates vibration, and prevents damage to your main gearbox. The hardened steel construction means this Corally pinion will last considerably longer than standard alternatives.
  • Is this pinion suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a high-quality professional-grade component, it is absolutely suitable for beginners who are willing to learn proper RC car maintenance. If you have an existing 48 DP RC vehicle and need to replace or upgrade your pinion gear, this Corally option will provide superior performance compared to stock components. However, beginners should ensure their motor shaft diameter matches the 3.17mm specification before purchasing.
  • What motor does this pinion fit? — This pinion is designed for any motor with a 3.17mm output shaft diameter. This includes most brushless motors rated for 1/10 and 1/8 scale RC cars, as well as many high-performance brushed motors. Before purchasing, verify that your motor has a 3.17mm shaft — this is a critical measurement for compatibility. If your motor has a different shaft diameter (such as 2.5mm or 4mm), you will need a different pinion size.
  • How does the 48 DP specification affect my RC car? — DP (Diametral Pitch) is an industry standard that defines the number of teeth per unit of pitch diameter. A 48 DP gear has smaller teeth than lower DP ratings (such as 32 DP), which allows for more teeth in the same space. This means 48 DP gears are common in modern RC vehicles and provide smooth, quiet operation with minimal backlash. This Corally pinion is designed specifically for vehicles with 48 DP gearboxes, so you must verify your gearbox uses 48 DP before purchasing.
  • What makes hardened steel pinions better than standard steel? — Hardened steel undergoes a specialised heat treatment process that increases its hardness and wear resistance significantly. This means the teeth are much less likely to chip, strip, or wear down under the demands of racing or aggressive driving. A hardened steel pinion like the Corally C-71432 will outlast a standard steel alternative by a considerable margin, making it the superior long-term investment for any serious RC car enthusiast.
  • How do CNC-cut teeth improve performance? — CNC (Computer Numerical Control) cutting ensures that every tooth is machined to exact specifications with perfect geometry. This precision eliminates runout (wobbling), reduces vibration, and ensures smooth meshing with your main gearbox. The result is more efficient power transfer, quieter operation, more responsive handling, and reduced stress on other drivetrain components. The CNC-cut Corally pinion will perform noticeably smoother than pinions cut with less precise methods.
  • Can I use this pinion in different RC vehicles? — Yes, as long as your vehicle meets three critical requirements: it must have a 48 DP gearbox, a 3.17mm motor shaft, and be compatible with a 32-tooth pinion for your desired gear ratio. Many popular 1/10 scale RC cars meet these specifications. However, always verify these measurements before assuming compatibility, as different manufacturers sometimes use different standards.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — This depends on how frequently and aggressively you drive your RC car. Casual hobby drivers might replace a pinion once every few years, whilst competitive racers may change pinions every few months or even more frequently. With the Corally hardened steel construction, you can expect longer intervals between replacements compared to standard components. Regularly inspect your pinion for signs of wear, chips, or tooth damage, and replace it immediately if you notice any problems.
