Technical Performance

The Corally 64 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 40 Teeth represents the pinnacle of pinion gear engineering for RC cars. With a gear pitch of 64 DP, this component integrates seamlessly into modern RC drivetrain systems that have standardised around this specification. The 40-tooth count provides a moderate gear ratio that balances acceleration with top-speed capability, making it suitable for varied track layouts and driving conditions across the UK RC scene. The hardened steel material ensures exceptional durability compared to standard steel pinions, resisting wear and tooth stripping even under high-torque acceleration events. The 3.17mm motor shaft diameter is the industry standard for most brushless motors used in 1/10 scale and smaller RC cars, from entry-level vehicles to serious competition machines. The gear features a width of 4.00mm and a total length of 9.00mm, making it a short-format pinion ideal for compact drivetrain designs. The 1.5mm hex key size for retention ensures secure installation with standard RC car hex wrenches. CNC manufacturing guarantees that the tooth profile maintains perfect concentricity and true running characteristics, eliminating the vibration and drivetrain slop that can develop with inferior gears. This level of precision engineering translates directly to smoother acceleration, more predictable handling, and longer drivetrain component lifespan. Whether you're upgrading from a standard pinion or replacing a worn component in an existing RC setup, the Corally pinion delivers measurable improvements in performance and reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the 64DP specification and why does it matter for my RC car? — The 64 DP (Diametral Pitch) is a gear sizing standard that determines the tooth size and module of the gear. This specification is critical because your pinion gear must match your spur gear specification to ensure proper mesh and avoid drivetrain damage. Most modern RC cars use 64DP gearing, making this pinion compatible with countless vehicles available in the UK market. Using the correct specification ensures smooth power delivery, minimal noise, and maximum drivetrain efficiency.
  • How do I know if this 40-tooth pinion is the right gear ratio for my RC car? — The 40-tooth pinion pairs with different spur gears to create various overall gear ratios. A 40T pinion with a larger spur gear (like 60T) creates a more aggressive ratio for acceleration, while pairing it with a smaller spur gear produces a higher top-speed ratio. Your optimal ratio depends on your track layout, motor KV rating, and driving style. Most UK RC shops can provide guidance on selecting the correct combination for your specific vehicle.
  • Can I use this pinion as a replacement for my worn drivetrain? — Yes, absolutely. The Corally pinion is an excellent replacement for worn or damaged pinions in existing RC cars. The 3.17mm shaft diameter and 64DP specification make it compatible with most modern RC vehicles. Simply remove your old pinion using a 1.5mm hex key and install this new Corally unit. Always ensure your motor shaft is in good condition and measure the shaft diameter to confirm it matches the 3.17mm specification before installation.
  • Why choose hardened steel over standard steel pinions? — Hardened steel pinions offer significantly better durability and wear resistance compared to standard steel alternatives. The hardening process strengthens the material, allowing it to resist tooth stripping during high-acceleration events and prolonging the service life of the gear. For competitive RC driving or frequent bashing sessions, hardened steel pinions reduce replacement frequency and provide more consistent performance throughout their operational life, ultimately offering better value for money.
  • What makes Corally pinions different from budget alternatives? — Corally pinions are manufactured on special gear machines using CNC technology, ensuring perfect tooth shaping and concentricity that budget alternatives cannot match. This precision engineering eliminates vibration, reduces noise, and ensures smooth power delivery. The hardened steel material and strict manufacturing tolerances mean Corally pinions last longer and perform more reliably than cheaper options, making them the preferred choice for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK.
  • Is this pinion suitable for beginners upgrading their RC car? — Yes, this pinion is suitable for beginners, particularly those looking to upgrade an existing RC car. The installation is straightforward, requiring only a 1.5mm hex key. However, beginners should consult with experienced RC enthusiasts or refer to their vehicle's manual to ensure they select the correct gear ratio for their motor and track conditions. RC Model Shop staff can provide expert guidance on selecting the right pinion for your specific setup.
  • What is the difference between short and standard length pinions? — The short length design (9.00mm) of this Corally pinion saves space compared to standard-length pinions, making it ideal for RC cars with compact drivetrain designs or limited space between the motor and the chassis. The shorter length reduces weight slightly and can improve handling in some vehicles. If your RC car's drivetrain was originally designed for short pinions, this component will be the correct choice. Always verify your vehicle's specifications before ordering.
