Overview
The Team Associated 75T 48 Pitch Spur Gear (AS9650) is a premium component designed specifically for competitive and recreational RC car enthusiasts in the UK who demand precision engineering and compatibility with the latest brushless motor technology. This smaller-diameter spur gear represents a significant advancement in drivetrain flexibility for Team Associated's most popular 1/10 scale buggy and truck models. Whether you're running a stock brushless motor setup or looking to optimise your gearing ratios, this spur gear delivers the engineering excellence Team Associated is renowned for across the RC hobby community.
Engineered for the modern brushless era, the AS9650 is tailored specifically for stock motor racing where 17.5, 13.5 and 10.5 KV brushless motors dominate competition. This component opens up new possibilities in gear ratio selection that weren't previously available with larger spur gear designs. For RC enthusiasts in the UK looking to stay competitive or simply enjoy superior handling characteristics, this spur gear is an essential upgrade that transforms how your RC buggy or truck performs on track. The smaller design philosophy behind the AS9650 isn't just about numbers—it's about real-world performance benefits that drivers can feel immediately.
Team Associated has been perfecting RC components for decades, and this spur gear showcases that commitment to quality. As an authorised UK RC retailer, RC Model Shop stocks genuine Team Associated spares and upgrades, ensuring you receive authentic components with the precision tolerances and material quality that define the brand. This is a genuine Team Associated part, not an imitation, and that distinction matters when you're investing in your RC car's performance and longevity.
Key Features
- 75-Tooth design with 48 Pitch specification — This is a smaller-diameter spur gear compared to standard options, specifically engineered to work with the compact drivetrain geometries of brushless stock motor racing setups. The 48 pitch rating ensures precise mesh with compatible pinion gears, delivering smooth power delivery and minimal drivetrain noise during operation.
- Optimised for 17.5, 13.5 and 10.5 brushless stock motors — This spur gear is purpose-built to work harmoniously with the most popular brushless motor sizes used in 1/10 scale racing. Whether you're running Team Associated's own brushless motors or compatible third-party units, the AS9650 delivers reliable performance without strain on your motor or ESC.
- Enables smaller pinion gears for finer gearing steps — One of the most significant advantages of this design is that it allows racers to use smaller pinion gears, which creates more granular gear ratio options. This means you can fine-tune your setup with greater precision, finding the exact gearing that suits your particular track, driving style and motor choice. Previously, some combinations simply weren't possible with larger spur gears.
- Moves motor forward for improved balance and handling — The smaller physical diameter of this spur gear allows you to relocate the motor forward in the chassis, shifting the weight distribution in a way that genuinely improves the driving experience. Better weight distribution means more predictable handling characteristics, improved cornering stability and a more responsive feel through all phases of driving—acceleration, braking and turning.
- Premium Team Associated engineering and quality control — This is not a generic spur gear. Team Associated maintains strict manufacturing tolerances and uses quality materials throughout their component range. You're investing in precision engineering that will outlast cheaper alternatives and maintain its performance characteristics over extended use.
Technical Performance
The AS9650 represents the intersection of practical engineering and racing necessity. At 75 teeth with 48 pitch specification, this spur gear sits at a critical intersection in the gearing world—large enough to provide smooth, reliable power delivery without excessive noise or vibration, yet small enough to unlock new possibilities in gear ratio selection that weren't available before. The 48 pitch standard is one of the most widely used specifications in 1/10 scale RC racing, ensuring compatibility across a broad range of vehicles and setups. The engineering behind this component focuses on material quality and machining precision; Team Associated spur gears are manufactured to extremely tight tolerances, ensuring consistent mesh with pinion gears, minimal backlash and maximum drivetrain efficiency. This translates directly to better acceleration characteristics, more predictable handling and reduced wear on associated drivetrain components. The smaller diameter means your motor sits further forward in the chassis, which in practical terms improves the weight bias of your vehicle—something that experienced RC racers understand as fundamental to competitive performance. Built from durable materials selected specifically for high-RPM, high-load environments, this spur gear is engineered to withstand the stresses of competitive racing, bashful track time and general recreational driving. The AS9650 is designed as a direct replacement or upgrade component for Team Associated vehicles, meaning installation is straightforward and fitment is guaranteed when paired with compatible vehicles and drivetrain components.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Team Associated AS9650 spur gear suitable for beginners and casual RC drivers? — Yes, this component is suitable for anyone operating an RC10 series vehicle, from complete beginners to experienced racers. It's not a difficult installation and doesn't require special knowledge to fit. However, it's important to understand that this is a performance-oriented upgrade designed for stock brushless motor gearing. Beginners should ensure they have a compatible vehicle and compatible drivetrain components before purchasing.
- What vehicles is this spur gear compatible with? — The AS9650 fits Team Associated RC10B4, RC10T4, RC10B44, RC10B5, RC10B5M, RC10T5M, RC10SC5M, RC10B6 and RC10B6D models directly. It's also compatible with Losi XXX and XXX-T vehicles when the appropriate adaptor parts are added. Always check your specific vehicle's documentation before installing new drivetrain components.
- Why would I choose a 75-tooth spur gear over other options? — The 75-tooth design with 48 pitch specification represents the optimal balance for brushless stock motor racing. It's smaller than some alternatives, which means you can use smaller pinion gears and shift your motor forward—both of which improve handling and driving characteristics. If you're running a 17.5, 13.5 or 10.5 brushless motor, this is likely the gearing solution Team Associated recommends for your setup.
- What's the difference between the 72-tooth and 75-tooth versions? — Team Associated offers both 72T and 75T options in 48 pitch, allowing racers to fine-tune their overall gear ratio. The 75T provides a slightly taller gearing option, which typically delivers better acceleration and torque management, while a 72T would provide slightly higher top-end speed. Your choice depends on your track layout, motor choice and driving style. The AS9650 is the 75-tooth version.
- Is this a genuine Team Associated component? — Yes, the AS9650 is a genuine Team Associated part. RC Model Shop is an authorised retailer stocking authentic Team Associated components. Genuine parts ensure compatibility, quality and performance that imitations simply cannot match.
- How does this spur gear improve handling? — By moving your motor forward through the use of a smaller diameter spur gear, weight distribution in your chassis improves significantly. Better weight bias means more predictable handling in corners, improved stability during acceleration and braking, and a more responsive driving feel overall. This is especially noticeable on technically demanding tracks where every small improvement matters.
