Overview
The Team Associated RC10B6.4 FT Steering Rack in blue aluminium is a Factory Team upgrade component designed to deliver precision steering control and durability for competitive RC buggy racing. If you're serious about getting the most from your RC10B6.4 or RC10B6.4D platform, this high-performance steering rack upgrade is an essential investment. Whether you're running carpet tracks, outdoor off-road circuits, or practising at your local RC club, upgrading your steering assembly with Factory Team components is proven to improve handling predictability and steering responsiveness — two critical factors that separate competitive drivers from casual bashers. This component represents the engineering excellence that has made Team Associated the choice of world champions and serious RC racers across the UK and beyond.
Factory Team, the high-performance division of Team Associated, has engineered this steering rack from the ground up to eliminate play and inconsistency in your steering system. The investment in precision machining and quality materials means you'll feel the difference immediately when you transition from a stock steering rack to this FT upgrade. Racing at the highest levels demands equipment that responds exactly as intended, and this aluminium steering rack delivers that precision on demand.
This is not just an aesthetic upgrade — it's a functional performance component that gives you tangible advantages on the track. Many UK RC racers and hobbyists choose Factory Team parts to build competition-grade buggies that can compete at regional and national events. The RC10B6.4 platform is renowned for its versatility and tunability, and pairing it with Factory Team upgrades like this steering rack amplifies those strengths considerably.
Key Features
- CNC-machined billet aluminium construction — This steering rack is manufactured from solid billet aluminium using computer numerical control (CNC) machining, ensuring dimensional accuracy and structural rigidity that injection-moulded plastic simply cannot match. The billet process creates a strong, durable component that resists flexing and warping during aggressive driving.
- Factory Team blue anodised finish with laser-etched logo — The blue anodised coating protects the aluminium from corrosion and oxidation while providing a premium appearance that identifies this as genuine Factory Team equipment. The laser-etched logo adds authenticity and helps distinguish FT parts from cheaper alternatives. Anodising also improves durability and wear resistance compared to bare aluminium.
- Crush tube style ball bearing pivot design — The innovative crush tube pivot system clamps the steering rod securely in place with zero radial play, meaning there is no looseness or slack in the steering assembly. This design delivers immediate, responsive steering feedback without any dead zone or delay between your servo input and actual steering movement. Minimising play is crucial for precision control and predictable handling.
- Included 3x7x3mm ball bearings (4 units) — Four precision ball bearings are supplied with this component, sized at 3x7x3mm. These bearings enable smooth, frictionless rotation of the steering linkage while supporting the crush tube pivot system. Quality ball bearings reduce steering drag and ensure consistent steering feel throughout your driving session.
- Included crush tubes (2 units) — Two crush tubes are supplied as consumable items. These tubes work with the bearing system to clamp the steering rod firmly without deformation, creating the zero-play steering response that competitive drivers demand. Crush tubes can be replaced as wear items if needed.
- Designed for RC10B6.4 and RC10B6.4D platforms — This steering rack is engineered specifically for the RC10B6.4 and RC10B6.4D buggy platforms, ensuring perfect fitment and compatibility. The dimensions, mounting holes, and pivot geometry are optimised for these models, delivering maximum performance benefits.
Technical Performance
The Team Associated RC10B6.4 FT Steering Rack represents the pinnacle of steering system engineering for the RC10B6.4 class of 1/10 scale electric buggies. Machined from premium billet aluminium and finished with Factory Team blue anodising, this component combines material science with precision manufacturing to eliminate steering slop. The crush tube pivot mechanism is the standout innovation — by clamping the steering rod with zero play, it provides direct, immediate steering response that translates servo input into precise directional changes without any lost motion. This is particularly valuable when navigating tight racing lines on indoor carpet tracks or complex outdoor courses where steering accuracy determines whether you maintain momentum through corners or lose time to hesitation and understeer. The included 3x7x3mm ball bearings ensure that steering movement remains smooth and friction-free throughout extended racing sessions, preventing the steering feel from becoming notchy or gritty. Unlike plastic steering racks that flex and develop play over time, the billet aluminium construction maintains its structural integrity season after season, making this an investment in durability as well as performance. For RC enthusiasts in the UK building competition-grade RC10B6.4 setups, this steering rack is often paired with other Factory Team upgrades including lightweight driveline components, decoupled slipper clutches, and precision shock systems to create a race-ready platform capable of competing at national off-road events.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will this steering rack improve my RC10B6.4 handling and response? — Yes, absolutely. The crush tube pivot design eliminates radial play in the steering assembly, which means your steering input translates directly into wheel movement with no dead zone. You'll notice tighter, more predictable steering response, particularly when navigating sharp corners and when making fine steering adjustments during high-speed sections of track. This is why competitive racers choose Factory Team upgrades.
- Is this steering rack suitable for beginners? — While beginners can certainly use this component, it is primarily designed for intermediate and advanced RC racers who benefit from precision steering feedback and will appreciate the performance advantages. Beginners may find that a stock steering system is sufficient while they learn vehicle control and setup basics. However, if you're building a hobby-grade RC10B6.4 to grow into racing, installing this upgrade from the beginning is a smart decision that will serve you well as your skills improve.
- What is the difference between this Factory Team steering rack and stock plastic alternatives? — Factory Team parts use premium materials (billet aluminium vs plastic), precision manufacturing (CNC machined vs injection moulded), and refined engineering (crush tube design vs simple plastic clips). These differences combine to eliminate play, reduce wear, and deliver more consistent, responsive steering feel. The billet aluminium also resists flexing and deformation that plastic racks develop over time, maintaining precision throughout the product lifespan.
- Do I need any tools to install this steering rack on my RC10B6.4? — Installation will require standard RC hobby tools including hex drivers and possibly a small wrench or pliers to tighten fasteners. The exact tools needed will depend on your RC10B6.4's current configuration. You may find the Team Associated FT Hex Driver Tool Sets (available separately) particularly useful for working with Factory Team components.
- Can I fit this steering rack to an RC10B6.4D as well as the standard RC10B6.4? — Yes, this steering rack is designed for and compatible with both the RC10B6.4 and RC10B6.4D variants. Both platforms share the same steering system geometry and mounting points.
- How do I maintain this blue aluminium steering rack? — The anodised blue finish is relatively low-maintenance. Simply rinse with fresh water after outdoor racing to remove dirt and debris, and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive scrubbing that might damage the anodised coating. The ball bearings should be kept clean — if you notice steering feeling rough or notchy, you can carefully clean the bearings or replace them with new 3x7x3mm units, which are widely available as standard RC bearing items.
