Overview

The Team Associated FT 13mm Shock Pistons represent precision Factory Team engineering for serious RC car enthusiasts across the UK. These genuine OEM components are essential for anyone looking to maintain, tune or optimise 13mm shock performance on their RC vehicle. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning suspension geometry or a dedicated hobbyist maintaining your collection, these Factory Team shock pistons deliver the consistency and reliability that Team Associated is renowned for in the RC community.

Shock pistons are critical suspension components that directly affect how your RC car handles cornering, acceleration and braking. The 2.5mm specification with 2 x 1.7 configuration provides a specific damping characteristic, allowing you to dial in the perfect suspension setup for your driving style and track conditions. By choosing genuine Team Associated Factory Team components, you ensure that your shock system performs to specification and maintains the handling balance that your chassis was designed around. These pistons are ideal as replacement parts when servicing shocks, or as a tuning option when experimenting with different damping rates to achieve a more responsive or planted feel through corners.

RC Model Shop stocks authentic Team Associated spares and upgrades for the full range of Associated vehicles, from the B6.4D through to the latest competition models. Our commitment to stocking genuine Factory Team components means you can be confident in the quality and compatibility of every part you purchase from us.

Key Features

  • Factory Team Quality — These shock pistons are genuine Team Associated Factory Team components, built to the exacting standards required for competition racing and serious enthusiast use, ensuring absolute reliability and performance consistency shot after shot.
  • 2.5mm Specification — The 2.5mm piston diameter is specifically engineered for 13mm shocks, delivering a precise damping curve that balances responsiveness with stability across a wide range of track surfaces and driving conditions.
  • 2 x 1.7 Configuration — This proven piston configuration provides two effective damping zones, allowing the suspension to absorb small bumps efficiently whilst still supporting the chassis during aggressive cornering and acceleration events.
  • 13mm Shock Compatibility — Designed specifically for 13mm shock builds, these pistons ensure perfect fitment and optimal performance within the shock body, eliminating compatibility issues and ensuring consistent damping characteristics.
  • Precision Engineering — Team Associated's Factory Team division uses precision manufacturing techniques to ensure each piston meets strict tolerances, guaranteeing smooth operation and repeatable performance lap after lap.
  • Genuine Replacement Parts — Serve as ideal direct replacements for worn or damaged shock pistons, allowing you to maintain your shock system at peak performance or to refresh critical suspension components during regular maintenance.
  • Tuning Option — Perfect for drivers looking to fine-tune their suspension setup, these pistons provide a genuine alternative when experimenting with different damping rates to optimise handling for specific track conditions or personal preference.
  • Widely Compatible — Suitable across a range of Team Associated models including the B6.4, B6.4D, B74.2, B74.2D, T6.4, SC6.4, B7, B7D, B84, B84 Classic and RC10T84, making them a versatile spares option for multi-model enthusiasts.

Technical Performance

Team Associated's Factory Team shock pistons are engineered with meticulous attention to detail, utilising high-quality materials and precision manufacturing processes to deliver consistent damping characteristics shot after shot. The 2.5mm diameter specification works in harmony with 13mm shock bodies to create a finely calibrated damping system that responds dynamically to track conditions. The 2 x 1.7 configuration creates dual-stage damping, with the primary piston face providing baseline damping for small-amplitude inputs whilst the secondary geometry activates under higher-velocity suspension movements, effectively tuning the shock's behaviour across the full range of driving scenarios encountered on track. This layered approach allows the suspension to remain compliant over rippled sections and bumps whilst maintaining the support needed during aggressive cornering and braking events. The pistons are manufactured to tight tolerances to ensure smooth, consistent operation without binding or stiction, critical factors in achieving predictable and repeatable handling characteristics that can be relied upon during competitive racing. The precision engineering eliminates variability between pistons, ensuring matched performance across your vehicle's suspension system and allowing you to focus on driving technique and setup adjustments rather than worrying about component inconsistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What vehicles are these shock pistons compatible with? — These genuine Team Associated FT 13mm shock pistons are compatible with a wide range of Team Associated models including the B6.4, B6.4D, B74.2, B74.2D, T6.4, SC6.4, B7, B7D, B84, B84 Classic and RC10T84. If you're unsure whether they're suitable for your specific vehicle, we're happy to confirm compatibility — simply contact our Walsall store or call us on 01543 577278.
  • Why would I need replacement shock pistons? — Shock pistons wear over time with regular use, particularly if you run your RC car frequently or in dusty conditions. Worn pistons lose their precision fit within the shock body, resulting in inconsistent damping, reduced shock performance and unpredictable handling. Additionally, upgrading to a different piston specification allows you to tune your suspension damping to suit your driving style, track type or weather conditions — these pistons represent a genuine tuning option for drivers seeking to optimise their setup.
  • What does the 2.5mm specification mean? — The 2.5mm refers to the piston diameter, which determines how much fluid resistance the shock generates. This specification is specifically designed for 13mm shock bodies and works with the shock body's internal geometry to deliver the correct damping curve for Team Associated vehicles.
  • What is the 2 x 1.7 configuration? — The 2 x 1.7 configuration describes the piston's internal geometry, creating dual-stage damping characteristics. This design provides two effective damping zones — the primary stage handles baseline damping for small bumps and ripples, whilst the secondary stage activates under higher-velocity movements, allowing the suspension to remain compliant whilst maintaining support during aggressive driving.
  • Are these suitable for beginners? — These are genuine Factory Team components designed for precision and performance, making them ideal for serious enthusiasts and competitive drivers. However, they're also perfectly suitable for any RC car owner needing replacement shock pistons. Shock piston selection and tuning is more advanced than basic maintenance, so if you're new to suspension tuning, we'd recommend speaking with our team for guidance on which specification best suits your needs.
  • How do I know if my shock pistons need replacing? — Signs of worn shock pistons include inconsistent damping feel, the shocks feeling either too stiff or too soft in an unpredictable manner, or visible wear marks on the piston itself. If your shocks aren't performing as they should despite being clean and properly filled, new pistons will likely restore performance.
  • Can I use these for performance tuning? — Absolutely. These pistons represent a genuine tuning option for drivers looking to fine-tune their suspension setup. Different piston specifications and configurations alter the damping curve, allowing you to achieve a more responsive or planted feel depending on your preference and track conditions.
