Overview
The Team Associated 3X23 Shock Shaft V2, TiN (AS91617) is an essential replacement component for RC enthusiasts maintaining their Team Associated RC cars. Whether you're a dedicated racer, a weekend basher, or someone building their first RC car UK setup, shock shafts are critical wear items that require periodic replacement to maintain optimal suspension performance and handling characteristics. This genuine factory part from Team Associated ensures you're installing authentic components that meet the original equipment manufacturer specifications for your RC vehicle.
As an RC hobbyist in the UK, you understand that suspension performance directly impacts how your RC car handles on the track or off-road. Worn shock shafts can lead to inconsistent damping, reduced responsiveness, and compromised handling. The 3X23 Shock Shaft V2 with TiN (Titanium Nitride) finish is specifically engineered to provide the durability and precision needed for reliable suspension operation across multiple Team Associated models. The TiN finish provides enhanced wear resistance compared to standard steel, meaning your shock system will maintain consistent performance through extended running sessions.
This replacement shock shaft is suitable for servicing and refreshing worn shock components on compatible Team Associated RC platforms including the B6, B6.3, B6.4, B6.4D, B7, B7D, B64, B64D, B74.1, B74.2, B74.2D, B84, B84 Classic, RB10, RB10 Retro, and SR10 models. Before installation, always verify compatibility with your specific kit's documentation to ensure this is the correct component for your RC car.

Technical Performance
Shock shafts are precision-engineered components that must withstand significant stress during RC car operation. The 3X23 Shock Shaft V2 is constructed with hardened steel and enhanced with a Titanium Nitride coating that increases surface hardness to approximately 3000 HV (Vickers hardness), compared to standard shock shafts at around 500 HV. This dramatic increase in surface hardness means the TiN-coated shaft resists scratches, dents, and wear far more effectively, which is critical because any surface irregularities or scoring can cause inconsistent damping as the shock piston moves along the shaft. The 3X23 designation refers to the shaft diameter and length specifications that match the shock bodies used on Team Associated RC cars. The V2 revision incorporates lessons learned from extensive race testing, ensuring that the shaft geometry and surface finish perfectly match the internal tolerances of compatible shock bodies. When installing a new shock shaft, the smooth TiN surface provides optimal sealing against shock fluid, which is essential for maintaining consistent damping characteristics through your RC car's suspension travel. Quality shock shafts like this are the foundation of reliable suspension systems, directly affecting your RC car's handling on-road, off-road, or during competitive racing. The engineering precision ensures that shock fluid remains sealed properly around the piston, preventing leaks that would degrade damping performance. Whether you're running on tarmac, gravel, grass, or dirt, a quality shock shaft maintains predictable suspension action that lets you focus on driving rather than worrying about equipment failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Which Team Associated RC cars use the 3X23 Shock Shaft V2? — This shaft is compatible with multiple Team Associated models including the B6, B6.3, B6.4, B6.4D, B7, B7D, B64, B64D, B74.1, B74.2, B74.2D, B84, B84 Classic, RB10, RB10 Retro, and SR10. However, you should always verify compatibility against your specific kit's manual or parts list before purchasing to ensure AS91617 is the correct component for your RC car model.
- What does TiN finish mean and why does it matter? — TiN stands for Titanium Nitride, a hard ceramic coating applied to the shock shaft surface. This coating dramatically increases surface hardness and wear resistance, meaning the shaft resists scratching and scoring from the piston moving inside the shock body. A smooth, undamaged shaft surface is essential for maintaining consistent damping performance, so the enhanced durability of TiN-coated shafts ensures longer service life and more reliable suspension behaviour during your RC driving sessions.
- How often should I replace my shock shafts? — Shock shaft replacement intervals depend on how frequently you use your RC car and the conditions you drive in. Heavy use in sandy or dusty environments may require more frequent replacement. Inspect your shock shafts regularly for visible scoring, scratches, or pitting. If you notice inconsistent damping behaviour or see obvious wear on the shaft, it's time to replace it with a fresh component like the AS91617.
- Is this suitable for both racing and recreational driving? — Yes, this shock shaft is suitable for all driving styles. Whether you're competing in races, enjoying weekend bashing sessions, or simply maintaining your RC car, the 3X23 Shock Shaft V2 provides the reliability and durability you need. Competitive racers particularly appreciate the consistent performance that a quality shock shaft provides, as suspension consistency directly impacts lap times and handling predictability.
- How do I know if my shock shaft is damaged? — Visual inspection is the key. Remove the shock from your RC car and look closely at the shaft surface under good lighting. Look for scratches, dents, scoring marks, or any areas where the shiny TiN finish appears scuffed or worn away. Even minor surface damage can affect damping performance, so if you see any significant wear, replacement is recommended.
- Can I use this shaft in different shock bodies? — No, the 3X23 specification is very specific. This shock shaft is engineered for shock bodies designed for 3X23 dimensions. Using an incompatible shaft in a shock body could result in poor fit, inconsistent damping, or potential leakage. Always verify compatibility with your RC car's documentation before installation.
