This precision-engineered shock shaft is specifically designed for the Associated body #91576 and represents a significant upgrade path for owners of compatible vehicles including the B44.3, RC10B5, and RC10B5M models. Whether you're a dedicated racer fine-tuning your RC buggy or an experienced enthusiast looking to refresh your shock assemblies, this TiN-coated shaft delivers the durability and consistent performance that separates winning setups from the rest.
The Associated AS91615 is part of a comprehensive range of shock shaft options available from the manufacturer, offering racers and weekend bashers alike the opportunity to customise their suspension geometry and performance characteristics. Based in the UK RC hobby market, enthusiasts recognise that shock quality directly impacts handling, grip, and overall vehicle dynamics—making quality replacements like this one essential maintenance items for serious RC car owners. The TiN coating on this V2 shaft variant provides superior longevity compared to standard steel options, ensuring that your investment in quality suspension components pays dividends over extended racing seasons.
Available as a pack of two shafts, the AS91615 provides everything needed to refresh a complete shock assembly or maintain a spare set for competition use. This product represents the kind of precision engineering and attention to detail that Associated is renowned for throughout the RC model shop community, particularly among those running compatible 1/10 scale buggy and on-road racing platforms.
Key Features
- V2 Shock Shaft Design — The second-generation shaft architecture offers refined performance characteristics and improved reliability over earlier iterations, providing a smoother power delivery and more consistent suspension response across varying track conditions and driving styles.
- TiN Coating for Extended Service Life — The titanium nitride (TiN) surface treatment dramatically increases the shaft's resistance to wear, corrosion, and fatigue compared to uncoated steel alternatives, meaning you'll experience longer intervals between replacements and superior performance consistency throughout the product's lifespan.
- Screw-Secured Piston System — Unlike e-clip retention methods, this shaft uses a conventional screw to secure the piston, offering superior adjustability and reliability with the added benefit of easier maintenance and adjustment when fine-tuning your suspension setup.
- Precise Dimensional Specification — The 3x21mm dimensions are engineered to exacting tolerances, ensuring perfect fitment in body #91576 and guaranteeing the suspension geometry and anti-dive characteristics remain within manufacturer specifications for optimal handling.
- Factory Team Quality Standard — Built to the same standards as Associated's Factory Team competition components, this shaft delivers the precision and durability demanded by professional racers and serious hobbyists alike.
- Compatible Alternative Coating Available — Associated also offers a Factory Team Chrome coating option for buyers prioritising ultra-smooth action and minimal friction, providing flexibility to choose between maximum longevity (TiN) and maximum smoothness (Chrome) depending on your racing priorities.
- Comprehensive Vehicle Compatibility — This shaft is engineered to fit the B44.3, RC10B5, and RC10B5M platforms, ensuring that owners of these popular RC buggies can source genuine OEM replacement parts with absolute confidence in fitment and performance.
Technical Performance
The Associated AS91615 represents the pinnacle of suspension component engineering, utilising materials science and precision manufacturing to deliver uncompromising performance. The 3x21mm titanium nitride-coated shaft is machined from high-grade steel with a hardened surface treatment that resists the micro-abrasion and corrosion that typically degrades uncoated shock shafts over extended use. The TiN coating process creates a microscopic hard layer that improves hardness dramatically whilst maintaining the elasticity of the underlying steel, preventing the brittleness that can occur with some ceramic coatings. This means the shaft maintains its structural integrity even during high-impact landing and aggressive cornering, whilst the coating prevents the adhesive wear that occurs when metal-to-metal contact happens between the shaft and shock body internal surfaces. The V2 design incorporates refinements to piston geometry and surface finish that reduce friction and improve damping consistency across the full range of suspension travel, translating to more predictable and responsive handling characteristics on the track. For UK-based RC car competitors and enthusiasts, the consistency and longevity offered by this engineering approach means fewer mid-season failures, more reliable practice sessions, and the confidence that comes from knowing your suspension will perform identically from practice round one through to the final race heat.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What vehicles are compatible with the Associated AS91615 shock shaft? — The AS91615 is specifically designed for Associated body #91576 and is confirmed compatible with the B44.3, RC10B5, and RC10B5M RC buggy platforms. It is not compatible with e-clip retention systems, so ensure your vehicle uses screw-secured piston technology before ordering.
- What is the difference between TiN and Factory Team Chrome shock shafts? — Associated offers two coating options for this shock shaft design. The TiN coating on the AS91615 prioritises maximum service life and durability, resisting wear and corrosion more effectively over extended use. The Factory Team Chrome alternative is chosen by racers who prioritise exceptionally smooth action and minimal friction, ideal for technical tracks where every millisecond of response matters. Choose TiN for longevity and consistent reliability, or Chrome for the ultimate in smoothness and minimal damping resistance.
- Is the AS91615 suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement shock shaft component intended for owners of compatible Associated RC buggies who are already familiar with suspension maintenance and adjustment. Whilst not complex to install for those with basic mechanical knowledge, beginners should ensure they have the appropriate tools and technical guidance before attempting shock rebuilds. For complete beginners to RC car hobbies, we recommend starting with ready-to-run RC car UK packages and seeking guidance from experienced RC enthusiasts or authorised retailers like RC Model Shop.
- How often should I replace my shock shafts? — The TiN coating on the AS91615 extends the service life significantly compared to uncoated alternatives, but replacement intervals depend on usage intensity, maintenance practices, and driving style. Racing competitively may require shaft replacement every 5-10 race meetings, whilst weekend bashers might see much longer intervals. Regular cleaning and lubrication of shock bodies helps extend shaft life considerably.
- What maintenance does a shock shaft require? — Shock shafts benefit from regular cleaning to remove dirt and debris that can accelerate wear. The TiN coating provides excellent corrosion resistance, but rinsing with fresh water after off-road sessions and light lubrication with silicone oil helps maintain smoothness. Inspect shafts for pitting or scoring, which indicates they should be replaced for optimal damping performance.
