Overview

The Associated 8 x 16 x 5mm FT Flanged Bearings (AS91565) are genuine replacement components designed for RC enthusiasts and competitors who demand quality and reliability from their RC car UK setups. These precision-engineered flanged bearings are essential maintenance items for any serious RC hobbyist, whether you're running an RC buggy, RC truggy, or other Associated RC models that require this specific bearing size. As a dedicated RC car enthusiast, you understand that the quality of individual components directly impacts your vehicle's performance, longevity, and handling characteristics on the track or in the bash.

Flanged bearings serve a critical function in RC vehicles, providing smooth rotational support whilst maintaining precise alignment and preventing lateral play in suspension components, drivetrain elements, and other crucial mechanical systems. When your existing bearings wear out or develop play, replacing them with genuine Associated parts ensures you maintain the factory-engineered performance standards that the designers intended. The 8x16x5mm size is a common specification across multiple Associated RC8 series models, making this a versatile spare part that dedicated racers and bashers should keep in their spare parts box.

If you're based in the UK and looking for quality RC spares and upgrades, the Associated AS91565 FT flanged bearing represents genuine value and authenticity. These are not generic substitutes—they're the exact same components that come factory-installed on new Associated RC models. Whether you're replacing worn bearings from a season of competitive racing or maintaining your RC truck before the next event, these flanged bearings are engineered to deliver the precision and durability that Associated is recognised for throughout the RC world.

Key Features

  • Genuine Associated Component — This is an authentic replacement part manufactured by Team Associated, the same company that engineered your RC vehicle, ensuring perfect compatibility and performance consistency with factory specifications.
  • 8 x 16 x 5mm Flanged Design — The flanged bearing configuration provides enhanced support and alignment compared to standard ball bearings, preventing unwanted lateral movement in critical drivetrain and suspension applications whilst maintaining smooth rotation.
  • Precision-Engineered Construction — These bearings are manufactured to exacting tolerances, ensuring minimal runout and maximum efficiency when transferring rotational forces through your RC car's mechanical systems.
  • Wide Model Compatibility — The AS91565 bearing fits numerous Associated RC8 series vehicles including the RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8T3, RC8T3e, RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1E, RC8T3.1E, RC8B3.2, RC8B3.2E, RC8T3.2, RC8T3.2E, RC8B4, RC8B4E, RC8T4E, RC8T4, RC8B4.1, and RC8B4.1E, making it an essential item for owners of these popular RC buggy and truggy platforms.
  • Essential Maintenance Item — Regular bearing replacement is critical maintenance for RC vehicles—worn bearings develop play that compromises handling, increases friction losses, and can eventually lead to component failure, making fresh bearings a worthwhile investment in reliability.
  • Affordable Performance Insurance — At a competitive price point, these bearings represent excellent value as preventive maintenance, helping you avoid the more costly damage that can result from running worn-out or damaged bearing sets.

Technical Performance

The Associated 8 x 16 x 5mm FT flanged bearing represents the kind of precision engineering that serious RC enthusiasts expect from Team Associated, one of the most respected manufacturers in the RC hobby. Flanged bearings are engineered with extended outer races that provide superior lateral support compared to conventional ball bearings, effectively preventing the kind of side-to-side movement that can develop play in critical chassis components. The 8x16x5mm size specification means these bearings feature an 8mm inner bore (shaft diameter), a 16mm outer diameter, and a 5mm width, dimensions that have been carefully calculated by Associated's engineers to fit perfectly within the mechanical tolerances of the RC8 series chassis platforms. The precision of these dimensions is crucial—any bearing that deviates from these exact specifications could introduce unwanted play or binding, affecting everything from steering response to acceleration smoothness and overall handling predictability. In the competitive RC racing environment, where hundredths of a second separate winners from second place, this kind of precision absolutely matters. These bearings are manufactured using high-quality steel races and hardened steel rolling elements, ensuring they can withstand the tremendous forces generated by acceleration, braking, cornering, and high-speed operation. Whether you're pushing your RC buggy or truggy to its absolute limits on the track or bashingthrough rough terrain as a weekend hobbyist, quality bearings like these are fundamental to reliable performance. The flanged design also helps maintain proper spacing between components, reducing stress concentration on individual parts and distributing loads more evenly across the mechanical system. For UK RC car enthusiasts who take their hobby seriously, keeping a set of these genuine Associated bearings in your spares kit is simply prudent maintenance planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which Associated RC models use the 8x16x5mm FT flanged bearing? — This bearing size is specified for numerous Associated RC8 series vehicles. Compatible models include the RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8T3, RC8T3e, RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1E, RC8T3.1E, RC8B3.2, RC8B3.2E, RC8T3.2, RC8T3.2E, RC8B4, RC8B4E, RC8T4E, RC8T4, RC8B4.1, and RC8B4.1E. If you're unsure whether this bearing fits your specific model, we recommend contacting our friendly team at RC Model Shop—we're happy to confirm compatibility before you purchase.
  • What's the difference between a flanged bearing and a standard ball bearing? — Flanged bearings feature extended outer races that provide superior lateral support and alignment control compared to standard ball bearings. This design prevents unwanted side-to-side movement in critical applications, maintaining precise component spacing and reducing the development of play over time. For applications where alignment and load distribution are crucial—such as suspension and drivetrain components—flanged bearings are the engineering choice that delivers superior performance and longevity.
  • How often should I replace my RC car's bearings? — Bearing replacement intervals depend on how heavily you use your RC vehicle. Competitive racers who run multiple practice and race sessions might replace bearings every few months, whilst casual bashers might go a year or more between replacements. Signs that bearings need replacement include noticeably increased friction, visible play when you move suspension components by hand, or grinding sounds during operation. Regular bearing maintenance is one of the most effective ways to keep your RC car performing at its best.
  • Why buy genuine Associated parts instead of aftermarket alternatives? — Genuine Association bearings are manufactured to the exact specifications that your RC vehicle's engineers designed around. Aftermarket alternatives, even if they claim to meet the same dimensions, may vary in internal tolerances, material quality, or surface finish. Using genuine parts ensures you maintain the performance characteristics and reliability standards that Associated built into your vehicle from the factory. For serious RC enthusiasts, this consistency and quality assurance is worth the investment.
  • Can I use these bearings in other RC vehicles besides Associated models? — Whilst these bearings are specifically manufactured for Associated RC vehicles, any RC vehicle that requires an 8x16x5mm flanged bearing could theoretically use them. However, we always recommend checking your vehicle's manual or parts diagram to confirm that the specification matches exactly. Using bearings that don't precisely match your vehicle's engineering specifications could result in poor fit, excess play, or binding that compromises performance and reliability.
