Built by Team Associated, a brand recognised worldwide for precision engineering and race-proven reliability, these 13mm rear shock springs represent the evolution of truck suspension design. The 13mm shock system originated from the award-winning RC10B6.4 buggy platform and has been adapted specifically for trucks, allowing RC drivers across the UK to benefit from superior bump absorption and jump landing control. If you've been searching for a way to transform your truck's handling on rough terrain and technical courses, these springs are the foundation of that transformation.
These springs are ideal for both serious competitors and dedicated weekend bashers who demand consistency and predictable performance. Available now in stock at RC Model Shop, they represent an investment in your RC car's capability and your driving enjoyment. The green colour designation indicates the specific spring rate, making it easy to identify and match with complementary suspension components across the 13mm shock ecosystem.
Key Features
- 13mm Shock Compatible Design — These springs are specifically engineered for 13mm bore shock bodies, which feature a significantly larger piston diameter than traditional 12mm shocks. This means you can run lighter damping oils whilst maintaining the pack and support needed for aggressive driving, giving you the best of both worlds: a soft, plush ride over small bumps combined with responsive bottoming resistance on big jumps.
- 2.20 lb/in Spring Rate (Green) — The spring rate is the key specification that determines how stiff or soft your suspension feels. At 2.20 lb/in, these green springs offer a moderate rate suitable for general purpose driving, allowing your truck to absorb bumps in and out of corners whilst remaining composed during high-speed landings where the pack increases to provide that pillow-like feel.
- L72 Length Specification — At 72mm long, these springs are purpose-designed for rear shock applications on stadium trucks and short course racing trucks. This length ensures proper suspension geometry and maintains the designed ride height when installed, critical for maintaining your truck's handling characteristics and centre of gravity.
- 9.75T and 1.2D Specification — These technical specifications represent the detailed construction parameters of the spring, including the wire thickness and coil configuration. These precise measurements ensure consistent performance across every spring produced, meeting Team Associated's exacting quality standards that have made them the choice of champions in RC racing across Europe and beyond.
- 13mm Shock Technology Upgrade Path — When you install these springs as part of a complete 13mm shock conversion, you're gaining access to technology derived directly from Team Associated's RC10B6.4 buggy. The larger bore piston allows lighter oils for superior low-speed compliance, meaning your truck soaks up the bumps whilst still maintaining the confidence-inspiring pack you need on rough terrain.
- Conversion-Ready Solution — Whether you're building new 13mm shocks from scratch or converting existing 12mm truck shocks to the larger 13mm system, these springs work seamlessly. Team Associated has engineered the entire 13mm ecosystem so you can upgrade progressively, starting with springs and shock bodies whilst integrating your existing components.
- Perfect for RC10T6.2 and RC10SC6.2 Trucks — These springs are specifically developed and tested on Team Associated's current generation competition trucks, meaning fitment and performance are guaranteed. They're also compatible with the RC10B6.4 13mm shock technology, giving you access to the most advanced suspension geometry in short course and stadium truck racing.
Technical Performance
The engineering philosophy behind these 13mm rear springs centres on delivering superior ride quality without sacrificing the responsiveness and bottoming resistance required in competitive RC racing. The 13mm shock platform represents a significant advancement over traditional 12mm shocks because the larger bore allows the use of lighter oils at lower pressures whilst still providing adequate damping support. This translates to measurable performance improvements on the track: your truck maintains better contact with the ground over high-frequency bumps, reducing the energy wasted in suspension movement, whilst the springs themselves provide the progressive rate curve that becomes stiffer as the suspension compresses, offering that cushioned landing feel on jumps that experienced drivers describe as landing on a pillow. The green rate at 2.20 lb/in places these springs in the general purpose category, suitable for mixed terrain, beginner to intermediate drivers, and versatile track conditions throughout the UK. When combined with matching 13x36mm shock bodies, 54mm truck front springs, and the complete 72mm truck rear spring range, you're assembling a suspension system that has been proven in competition at the highest levels of RC racing. Team Associated manufactures these springs from premium steel with precise heat treatment to ensure consistency, durability, and a predictable lifespan even under the extreme stresses of competitive driving. The construction quality is evident in the tight tolerances: each spring is wound to exact specifications so that multiple springs of the same rate provide identical performance, eliminating the variables that can undermine your truck's consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use these 13mm springs on my current 12mm shock truck? — No, these springs are specifically designed for 13mm bore shock bodies and will not fit 12mm shocks. However, you can upgrade to the complete 13mm shock system by purchasing 13x36mm shock bodies separately, which is a worthwhile investment given the performance improvements the larger bore offers. Team Associated provides all the necessary components to make this conversion straightforward.
- What does the 2.20 lb/in spring rate mean for my driving experience? — The spring rate determines how much force is required to compress the spring by one inch. At 2.20 lb/in, these are considered a moderate rate suitable for general purpose driving across various terrain conditions. Stiffer rates (higher numbers) are better for rough terrain and competitive racing, whilst softer rates are better for smooth surfaces and drivers preferring a plush feel. The green colour makes identification easy when you have multiple rates in your spare parts collection.
- Do I need to buy springs in pairs? — Yes, your truck has two rear shocks, so you'll typically purchase springs in pairs to ensure balanced suspension performance. Purchasing individual springs allows you to build up your spares collection gradually, but you must have matching springs on both sides of the vehicle.
- How do 13mm shocks compare to 12mm shocks for RC car performance? — The larger 13mm bore piston is the key advantage. It allows you to use lighter damping oils that provide superior low-speed compliance, meaning your truck soaks up small bumps more effectively. The larger piston also maintains better pack at high speeds, so you get both a plush feel and responsive handling from the same shock. This technology was originally developed for the RC10B6.4 buggy and is now available in the truck format.
- What is the L72 specification? — The L72 designation indicates the spring length is 72mm, which is the standard length for rear shocks on stadium trucks and short course trucks. This length maintains proper suspension geometry and ride height on RC10 and RC10SC platforms. Never mix different spring lengths, as this will alter your truck's ride height and handling balance.
- Are these springs suitable for beginners? — Yes, the 2.20 lb/in green rate is an excellent starting point for new RC drivers. These springs are forgiving enough to tolerate less-than-perfect driving technique whilst still providing enough support for decent performance. As you develop your skills, you can experiment with different spring rates to fine-tune your truck's handling to your preferences and driving style.
- Can I convert my RC10T6.2 to 13mm shocks? — Absolutely. The RC10T6.2 is fully compatible with 13mm shock conversion. You'll need the 13x36mm shock bodies, front and rear springs (including these AS71163 rear springs), and the appropriate damping oils. Team Associated provides supplemental parts lists showing every component needed for a complete 13mm shock build on the T6.2 platform.
- What other components do I need to complete the 13mm shock system? — At minimum, you'll need matching shock bodies (13x36mm), damping oils, and matching front springs (54mm length). For a complete suspension refresh, consider the full ecosystem: multiple spring rates for different terrain and track conditions, rebuilt kits for maintenance, and the selection of damping oils that range from 15wt through 30wt depending on your desired feel and track conditions. RC Model Shop stocks the full range of compatible components.
- What is the 9.75T and 1.2D specification? — These numbers describe the internal construction of the spring wire. The 9.75T refers to the total coil count, and the 1.2D refers to the wire diameter. These specifications ensure that every spring manufactured meets the same performance characteristics, providing consistency and predictability in your truck's suspension behaviour.
- How often should I replace these springs? — Springs are wear items that will gradually lose their rate over time with use. Most RC drivers find that springs remain effective for several months of regular driving before noticeable softening occurs. Storing springs out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures helps extend their lifespan. Having spare sets on hand ensures you always have fresh springs available for competition or intense driving sessions.
