Overview

The Associated Silicone Diff Fluid 30,000cSt (AS5457) is a premium Factory Team differential oil engineered for serious RC racers and enthusiasts who demand consistent, high-level performance from their RC cars. This laboratory-tested silicone blend represents the pinnacle of differential tuning fluid technology, offering more consistent differential action and superior longevity compared to standard alternatives. Whether you're campaigning an RC8 series racer or fine-tuning any Associated platform with gear differential applications, this 30,000cSt grade provides the precision control and repeatable handling characteristics that competitive RC car UK racing demands.

Part of the newly developed Factory Team range of premium silicone blends, this differential fluid is specifically formulated for RC racing performance where setup consistency and maintenance repeatability are absolutely critical. The 30,000cSt viscosity sits amongst the most popular options for gear differentials and is suited to applications where a thicker silicone oil is preferred over lighter grades. RC enthusiasts across the UK trust Associated Factory Team fluids because they deliver the tuning precision needed for both competitive racing and recreational bashing, making this an essential consumable for any serious RC car collection.

Available from RC Model Shop, a trusted UK RC retailer, the AS5457 is part of a comprehensive range of Factory Team shock and differential fluids offered across multiple viscosities to cover every common tuning need. Having the right differential fluid viscosity is as important as having the right shock fluid — it directly impacts your car's handling characteristics, corner speed, and overall drivability. This 30,000cSt grade has proven itself as a favourite amongst RC car UK competitors and weekend bashers alike.

Key Features

  • Premium Factory Team Silicone Blend — This is not a budget fluid; it's a laboratory-tested, high-performance silicone specifically engineered by Associated for RC racing applications, ensuring superior quality and reliability compared to generic differential oils.
  • 30,000cSt Viscosity Grade — The 30,000cSt rating makes this fluid ideal for gear differential applications, providing the perfect balance of fluid flow and resistance for vehicles like the RC8 series where a thicker oil is preferred for optimal differential performance.
  • Consistent Formulation for Repeatable Tuning — One of the key advantages of Factory Team fluids is their consistent batch-to-batch formulation, allowing you to make precise setup adjustments knowing your baseline will remain stable between sessions and competitions.
  • Enhanced Longevity — The premium silicone blend provides extended fluid life, meaning your differential will maintain optimal performance characteristics for longer, reducing the frequency of oil changes and lowering your running costs over the season.
  • Genuine Associated Quality — As an official Factory Team product bearing the part number AS5457, you're guaranteed authentic Associated engineering and quality control, eliminating concerns about counterfeit fluids that might compromise your RC car's performance.
  • Part of a Complete Range — Associated offers this 30,000cSt grade alongside other Factory Team shock and differential viscosities, allowing you to build a complete tuning kit tailored to your specific RC car platform and racing conditions.
  • Suitable for Multiple Associated Platforms — Whilst originally formulated for the RC8 series, this 30,000cSt differential fluid works with numerous Associated platforms and is compatible with any RC car using gear differential applications.

Technical Performance

The Associated Silicone Diff Fluid 30,000cSt delivers exceptional technical performance through its carefully engineered silicone formulation. The 30,000cSt viscosity rating is measured in centistokes, a standard unit for fluid viscosity that allows RC racers to precisely compare and select the right oil for their differential setup. This particular grade sits in the thicker range of common differential oils, making it ideal for gear diffs where you want more fluid resistance and damping characteristics. The premium silicone blend ensures that the fluid maintains its viscosity characteristics consistently throughout your racing sessions, providing more predictable differential locking and unlocking behaviour. This means you get reliable corner exit traction, controlled entry speed, and predictable mid-corner behaviour — all critical factors for competitive lap times and smooth handling in RC car UK racing. The laboratory-tested formulation has been optimised specifically for RC racing applications, distinguishing it from generic industrial silicone oils that lack the precision engineering required for high-performance RC cars. The enhanced longevity of this fluid means it resists degradation from thermal stress and mechanical shearing better than lower-grade alternatives, ensuring your differential maintains its factory-tuned characteristics for extended periods. Whether you're running an RC8, RC8.2, RC8B3 or other Associated platforms, this 30,000cSt grade provides the performance foundation that allows you to focus on driver skill and track strategy rather than worrying about inconsistent differential behaviour.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does 30,000cSt mean and why does it matter for my RC car? — The cSt (centistoke) measurement indicates the viscosity or thickness of the fluid. 30,000cSt is a relatively thick differential oil, making it ideal for gear differentials where you want more resistance and damping. Thicker oils slow differential action slightly, providing better traction control and more predictable handling, whilst thinner oils (like 2500cSt or 5000cSt) allow quicker differential locking for looser handling. Choosing the correct viscosity grade is one of the most important setup decisions you'll make with your RC car.
  • Is this the right viscosity for my Associated RC car? — The 30,000cSt grade is one of the most popular options for gear differential applications in Associated vehicles, particularly the RC8 series, making it an excellent starting point for most setups. If you're new to differential tuning, this viscosity is widely considered a good baseline that works well for both competitive racing and recreational bashing. However, your ideal viscosity may vary depending on your specific track conditions, driving style and the particular Associated model you're running, so you may want to experiment with lighter or heavier grades once you understand how viscosity affects your car's behaviour.
  • What is the difference between this differential fluid and shock fluid? — Differential fluids and shock fluids are completely different products with different viscosity ranges and formulations. Shock fluid (typically available in 30wt, 45wt, 55wt and other grades) is used in shock absorbers to provide suspension damping, whilst differential fluid controls the locking and unlocking behaviour of your differential gears. You need both types in your RC car setup — Associated offers them as separate products because they serve entirely different functions. Using the wrong fluid in either component will severely compromise your car's handling characteristics.
  • How often should I change my differential fluid? — The frequency depends on how much you race and the conditions you run in. As a general guideline, many competitive RC racers change their differential fluid every 3-6 months of regular use, whilst recreational bashers might change it annually or less frequently. You'll know it's time for a change when the fluid becomes noticeably darker, cloudy, or begins to accumulate metal particles from gear wear. The good news is that premium Factory Team fluids like this AS5457 have excellent longevity, so you'll get more running time between changes compared to budget alternatives.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Whilst the 30,000cSt grade is equally suitable for experienced racers fine-tuning their competition setups, it's also an excellent choice for beginners because it's one of the most forgiving viscosities to work with. It provides predictable handling characteristics that help new RC car UK drivers learn how their car behaves, and it's a good baseline from which to experiment with lighter or heavier grades as your understanding of setup develops. The consistency and quality of Factory Team fluid means you'll get reliable performance regardless of your experience level.
  • Will this fluid work in my non-Associated RC car? — Technically, any differential fluid can be used in any gear differential application, regardless of brand. However, Associated Factory Team fluids are optimised for Associated vehicles and may not provide the same performance characteristics in other brands' differentials. If you're using a non-Associated RC car, you might want to check your manufacturer's recommendations or consult with the RC car UK community about suitable differential fluids for your specific platform.
  • How much differential fluid do I need? — The amount varies depending on your specific RC car model — some differentials require just a few millilitres whilst others need more. Consult your RC car's instruction manual for the exact capacity and fill level recommended for your model. A single bottle of this AS5457 fluid will typically be enough for several differential fills and refills, making it economical for regular maintenance.
