Overview
The Associated Factory Team Aluminium Pinion Gear 19T 48DP is a premium upgrade component designed for RC enthusiasts who demand precision engineering and lightweight performance. Whether you're running an RC car in the UK or competing at your local track, this pinion gear represents a significant step up from standard steel alternatives. As part of the Factory Team hop-up range, this component is engineered to deliver the performance benefits that serious RC competitors and dedicated hobbyists expect, with manufacturing standards that reflect Associated's reputation for excellence in the RC industry.
This 19-tooth pinion gear is specifically designed for 1/8 inch (3.2mm) motor shafts and 48DP gearing systems, making it compatible with a wide range of Associated RC vehicles and other compatible platforms. The precision-machined construction ensures smooth engagement with your spur gear, reducing noise and vibration whilst delivering consistent power delivery to your drivetrain. Whether you're upgrading from factory steel pinions or seeking marginal performance gains through component optimisation, this Factory Team gear offers a tangible improvement in overall drivetrain efficiency and longevity.
RC car enthusiasts across the UK recognise that drivetrain components play a crucial role in overall performance, reliability and competitive advantage. By choosing a lightweight aluminium pinion gear over standard alternatives, you're investing in a component that will serve your RC vehicle better for longer, whilst contributing to improved acceleration response and reduced rotational inertia.
Key Features
- Factory Team Hop-Up Design — This is not a basic OEM component; it's engineered as a performance upgrade by Associated's Factory Team, meaning it has been tested and refined specifically for serious RC applications where every component matters.
- 7075-T6 Aluminium Construction — This aerospace-grade aluminium alloy is chosen for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, providing superior rigidity whilst keeping rotational mass to a minimum, which directly translates to faster acceleration and improved throttle response in your RC vehicle.
- Hard Anodised Finish — The hard anodising process creates a protective oxide layer that significantly extends component lifespan by resisting wear, corrosion and abrasion, ensuring your pinion gear maintains precision engagement with your spur gear even after extended use.
- Two Set-Screw Holes — Dual set-screw holes provide a secure, positively-located mounting on your motor shaft, preventing unwanted movement or slippage during hard acceleration or competitive driving, which could otherwise compromise your drivetrain efficiency.
- Laser-Etched Tooth Count — The permanent laser etching makes tooth identification quick and easy, eliminating the need to count teeth manually and making it simple to track which pinions you have in your pit box during competitions or club nights.
- Precision Machined Teeth — Each tooth is machined to exacting tolerances, ensuring smooth, quiet engagement with compatible spur gears and maximising the service life of both components through even load distribution.
- Optimised for 48DP Gearing — Specifically designed to work with 48-diametral-pitch gearing systems, this pinion ensures perfect mesh geometry with standard 48DP spur gears used across the RC car UK hobby scene.
Technical Performance
The Associated Factory Team Aluminium Pinion Gear 19T 48DP represents the culmination of decades of RC racing expertise translated into a single drivetrain component. Manufactured from premium 7075-T6 aluminium, this material is the same specification used in aerospace applications, offering an uncompromising balance between weight and strength. At 19 teeth, this pinion is calibrated to deliver optimal acceleration characteristics for 48DP drivetrain systems, which are among the most popular gearing standards for 1/8 inch motor shafts in the competitive RC car market. The hard anodised finish isn't merely cosmetic; it's a functional treatment that creates a microscopic protective barrier, dramatically improving resistance to wear from the constant meshing action with your spur gear. The precision machining process ensures that each tooth profile matches Associated's exacting specifications, preventing the noise and wear that can develop with inferior alternatives. The 1/8 inch (3.2mm) shaft bore is machined to tight tolerances, ensuring a precise fit on standard motor shafts without play or slippage. Competitive RC drivers and weekend bashers alike benefit from the slight weight savings offered by aluminium construction—every gram of rotational mass reduction means your motor works slightly more efficiently, responding faster to throttle inputs and delivering consistent performance lap after lap. The dual set-screw holes provide absolute security on the motor shaft, critical when you're pushing hard through corners or powering through rough terrain.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What vehicles is this 19T pinion gear compatible with? — This gear is designed for any RC vehicle that uses a 1/8 inch (3.2mm) motor shaft and 48DP gearing system. This includes a wide range of Associated vehicles such as the TC7.1, TC7.2, B6 series, B74 series, T6 series and various Element and Pro2 platforms. It's also compatible with other manufacturers' vehicles that share the same shaft and gearing specifications. Check your vehicle's manual or specifications to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
- How does the 19-tooth count affect my RC car's performance? — The tooth count directly influences your vehicle's gearing ratio and performance characteristics. A 19T pinion is considered a lower tooth count in the 48DP range, resulting in a higher gear ratio that favours acceleration over top speed. This makes it ideal for technical courses with tight corners, indoor racing, or vehicles prioritising quick response and mid-range punch. If you're running on high-speed open tracks, you might prefer higher tooth counts like 25T or 30T, which favour top speed.
- Why choose an aluminium pinion over a standard steel pinion? — Aluminium pinions offer several advantages: they're lighter, reducing rotational inertia for quicker acceleration response; they're easier to identify with laser-etched tooth counts; and when hard anodised, they actually last longer than you'd expect due to the protective oxide coating. The slight weight savings also means your brushless motor works more efficiently, potentially extending runtime and improving throttle response. Factory Team users consistently report smoother, quieter operation and better overall drivetrain efficiency.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Whilst this is a Factory Team upgrade component, it's not so specialised that beginners can't use it. If your RC car uses a 1/8 inch motor shaft and 48DP gearing, this pinion will work perfectly and represents a worthwhile upgrade from basic OEM components. Beginners benefit from the improved reliability and longer lifespan of hard anodised aluminium.
- What is the difference between 48DP and other pitch systems? — DP (diametral pitch) determines the spacing and size of gear teeth. 48DP means 48 teeth per inch of pitch diameter, resulting in smaller, more numerous teeth compared to systems like MOD 1 (modulus 1) gearing. 48DP is standard for many 1/8 inch motor shaft applications and offers excellent precision and quiet operation. Make sure your spur gear matches the 48DP specification to ensure proper mesh.
- How tight should I tighten the set screws? — The dual set-screw holes should be tightened firmly enough to prevent movement on your motor shaft, but not so tight that you risk stripping the threads or damaging the motor shaft. Most RC competitors recommend using a small hex key and tightening until snug, then giving a final quarter-turn. Always check before running that the pinion doesn't move when you gently try to twist it by hand.
- Can I use this with any spur gear? — Only with 48DP spur gears. Using a pinion with a spur gear of different pitch specifications will result in poor mesh geometry, excessive noise, rapid wear and potential drivetrain damage. Always verify that your spur gear is also 48DP before installing this pinion.
- How long does an aluminium pinion typically last? — Hard anodised aluminium pinions are incredibly durable for a motorsport component. Most RC competitors find they last for entire race seasons or longer with normal use. Longevity depends on driving intensity, maintenance (keeping your drivetrain clean and properly meshed) and the condition of your matching spur gear. Inspect regularly for signs of tooth wear, and replace if you notice grinding or unusual noise.
