Overview
The Futaba S-AG500 Slim Coreless Digital Servo PWM/S.Bus2 represents the pinnacle of compact servo engineering, designed specifically for RC aircraft enthusiasts and modellers working in tight spaces where conventional servos simply won't fit. This exceptional slim wing servo delivers professional-grade performance in a package that weighs just 28 grams, making it an ideal solution for anyone building or upgrading RC planes, gliders, or other aircraft with thin wings and space constraints. Whether you're a seasoned RC flyer in the UK looking to optimise your aircraft's control surfaces or a hobbyist exploring the world of RC aviation, the S-AG500 punches well above its weight class with impressive specifications that belie its diminutive dimensions.
Futaba has engineered the S-AG500 to strike the perfect balance between size, speed, and torque, offering 9.5kg of maximum torque with a lightning-fast 0.12-second transit speed across a 60-degree arc. The servo's remarkably slender 10mm width profile makes it the perfect choice for aircraft with limited fuselage or wing space, yet it maintains the build quality and precision you'd expect from a manufacturer with over 60 years of radio control expertise. With its durable aluminium case, dual ball bearing support, metal gears, and compatibility with multiple control protocols including S.Bus2, this is a high-quality solution that delivers affordability without compromising on performance or reliability.
As an authorised Futaba retailer, RC Model Shop stocks the S-AG500 for customers throughout the UK and Ireland who demand nothing less than genuine Futaba quality backed by expert support and advice. This servo represents excellent value for money and is backed by the full Futaba warranty and support network.
Key Features
- Coreless Motor Design — The high-performance coreless motor delivers exceptional responsiveness and smooth control without the weight penalty of traditional coreless alternatives, ensuring your aircraft responds instantly to your commands with minimal lag or dead zones.
- Slim 10mm Width Profile — Measuring just 10mm across its width, this servo fits into thin wing sections and confined spaces where standard servos cannot, opening up possibilities for lighter aircraft designs and more efficient aerodynamic layouts.
- 9.5kg Maximum Torque — Delivering substantial pulling force at 9.5 kilograms, the S-AG500 provides more than adequate power to operate control surfaces even under challenging flight conditions, turbulence, or when flying with heavier aircraft configurations.
- 0.12 Second Transit Speed — With a response time of just 0.12 seconds across a 60-degree arc, this servo reacts instantaneously to pilot input, ensuring precise and predictable control response during aerobatic manoeuvres, landing approaches, or aggressive flying.
- Metal Gears — Constructed from durable metal rather than plastic, the gear train resists wear, maintains backlash tolerances over extended use, and provides superior durability compared to budget alternatives, ensuring long service life.
- Dual Ball Bearing Support — The output shaft rides on two precision ball bearings that minimise friction, reduce wear, and ensure smooth operation throughout the servo's lifespan, contributing to the precision and longevity you expect from professional equipment.
- Digital Programmable Control — The servo's digital circuitry allows for programmable parameters including endpoint adjustment, speed limiting, and other customisation options, giving you complete control over servo behaviour to suit your specific aircraft requirements.
- S.Bus2 Compatibility — Supporting Futaba's advanced S.Bus2 digital protocol alongside traditional PWM, this servo works seamlessly with modern Futaba radio systems and offers reduced wiring complexity with single-wire digital communication.
- PWM and S.BUS Protocol Support — Beyond S.Bus2, the S-AG500 also supports standard PWM analogue control and the S.BUS protocol, ensuring broad compatibility with legacy and contemporary Futaba transmitter systems.
- Durable Aluminium Case — The protective aluminium housing resists impact damage, provides excellent heat dissipation from the servo's motor and electronics, and contributes to the overall structural integrity of the unit under demanding operational conditions.
- Soft Start Initialisation — The servo features soft start technology that prevents sudden jerky movements when power is first applied, protecting delicate linkages and control surfaces from damage and ensuring smooth initial engagement.
Technical Performance
The Futaba S-AG500 represents a masterclass in servo engineering, combining precision components with intelligent design to deliver performance that rivals servos twice its size. At the heart of the S-AG500 lies a high-performance coreless motor that generates exceptional torque and speed without the weight of traditional motor designs. The servo operates across a voltage range of 6.0V to 7.4V, giving you flexibility in power system design whether you're running a 2S LiPo battery configuration or traditional NiMH cells. The 25-tooth spline, measuring 6mm in diameter, is a standard fitment compatible with a wide range of horns and linkage systems available in the UK RC market. The aluminium case construction provides excellent durability whilst keeping overall weight to a mere 28 grams, with precise dimensions of 36mm height, 30mm length, and crucially, just 10mm width. Dual ball bearings support the output shaft, minimising friction losses and ensuring the 9.5kg torque output translates directly into control authority without slippage or play. The metal gear construction maintains tight tolerances and resists the wear that plastic gears suffer over extended use. All components are engineered and tested to Futaba's rigorous quality standards, ensuring consistent performance across the entire production run. The servo's digital circuitry provides not only enhanced precision compared to analogue alternatives but also opens the door to programmable customisation through compatible Futaba radio systems, allowing you to fine-tune servo behaviour to your exact flying style.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Futaba S-AG500 suitable for beginners in RC aircraft? — Whilst the S-AG500 is an excellent servo, it is primarily designed for aircraft with space constraints rather than as a general-purpose beginner servo. However, if you're building a specific aircraft design that calls for a slim servo in thin wings, beginners will find this servo straightforward to install and operate with any compatible Futaba radio system. The age recommendation of 14+ reflects the technical nature of RC aircraft assembly and operation rather than servo complexity.
- What voltage does the S-AG500 require and what battery is compatible? — The servo operates across a voltage range of 6.0V to 7.4V, meaning it is compatible with 2S LiPo batteries (which provide 7.4V nominal) as well as traditional 6-cell NiMH receiver battery packs (which provide approximately 7.2V). This flexibility means you can choose the power source that best suits your aircraft and flying style without needing dedicated servo batteries.
- How does the S-AG500 compare to larger standard servos? — The primary difference is the S-AG500's remarkably slim 10mm width, which allows installation in thin wing sections where standard servos cannot physically fit. Despite its compact dimensions, it delivers 9.5kg of torque and 0.12-second response time that matches or exceeds many larger servos, making it an excellent choice for weight-conscious aircraft designs and those with specific space constraints.
- What control protocols does the S-AG500 support? — The servo supports three communication standards: traditional PWM (pulse width modulation) for compatibility with older systems, S.BUS for efficient digital communication, and S.Bus2, Futaba's latest protocol offering enhanced functionality and reduced wiring complexity on modern Futaba radio systems.
- Can I programme the S-AG500 to customise its behaviour? — Yes, the digital circuitry and programmable functionality allow you to customise servo parameters including endpoint adjustment and speed limiting through compatible Futaba radio systems, giving you precise control over how the servo responds to your inputs.
- Is the S-AG500 waterproof for wet weather flying? — The source material does not provide a specific IP waterproof rating for the S-AG500. Whilst the aluminium case and sealed construction offer some weather resistance, you should treat it as a standard servo regarding water exposure and avoid deliberate submersion.
- What makes the dual ball bearing design important? — Dual ball bearings support the output shaft and significantly reduce friction compared to sleeve bearing designs, ensuring the full 9.5kg torque output is delivered efficiently without slippage, whilst also reducing wear and extending the servo's operational lifespan.
