Overview

TLR Silicone Shock Oil 42.5WT, 563CST is a precision lubricant designed specifically for RC car and truck shock absorbers. Whether you're running a competitive buggy, off-road truck, or casual basher, the quality of your shock oil directly impacts your vehicle's handling characteristics, suspension response and overall performance on the track or terrain. This 4oz bottle provides enough fluid to service multiple shocks, making it an essential component in any RC enthusiast's maintenance kit. TLR Racing is recognised for producing high-quality lubricants that help manage friction and heat in RC mechanical systems, and this shock oil is no exception.

Shock oils are critical for fine-tuning your RC car's suspension geometry and ride height. The viscosity rating of 42.5WT with a specific gravity measurement of 563 centistokes (CST) positions this oil in the mid-range of the TLR shock fluid lineup, making it suitable for a variety of driving conditions and suspension setups. Whether you're looking to improve cornering stability, adjust ride compliance, or dial in your vehicle for championship-level competition, selecting the correct shock oil viscosity is paramount to achieving your desired handling balance.

RC Model Shop stocks the full range of TLR silicone shock oils, allowing you to compare different weight ratings and find the perfect match for your specific vehicle and driving style. From lightweight 30WT fluids through to heavier 80WT options, TLR's comprehensive shock oil range gives you precise control over your suspension performance. This particular 42.5WT variant sits comfortably in the middle of the spectrum, making it a versatile choice for drivers experimenting with suspension tuning or those looking to replace worn shock fluid in an already-proven setup.

Key Features

  • 42.5WT Viscosity Rating — The weight designation indicates the oil's resistance to flow at a standardised temperature, with 42.5WT offering a balanced viscosity that works well across a range of track conditions and driving styles, providing a good starting point for suspension tuning without being too stiff or too thin.
  • 563 Centistoke (CST) Specification — This precise measurement of kinematic viscosity ensures consistent damping performance in your RC shock absorbers, allowing predictable suspension response and helping you maintain control during acceleration, braking and cornering manoeuvres.
  • Silicone-Based Formula — Silicone shock oils offer superior stability compared to petroleum-based alternatives, resisting viscosity breakdown under the intense heat and pressure generated during high-speed driving and allowing your shocks to maintain consistent performance throughout long practice sessions or race days.
  • 4oz Bottle Size — This larger format bottle provides sufficient fluid to service multiple shocks or to keep as backup stock for frequent maintenance, offering better value than smaller 2oz containers for serious RC enthusiasts who regularly adjust and maintain their suspension systems.
  • Precision Suspension Tuning — By selecting the correct shock oil viscosity, you can fine-tune your RC vehicle's handling characteristics to suit specific track layouts, weather conditions or driving preferences, making this product essential for drivers pursuing optimal performance and competitive advantage.
  • Heat and Friction Management — Quality shock oil reduces internal friction within your shock absorbers, helping to manage temperatures and extend the service life of your suspension components whilst maintaining responsive, predictable handling throughout your driving sessions.

Technical Performance

TLR Silicone Shock Oil 42.5WT, 563CST represents a carefully engineered lubricant formulation specifically developed for the demanding requirements of RC suspension systems. The silicone base chemistry provides excellent thermal stability, meaning the oil maintains its viscosity characteristics even when subjected to the extreme temperature fluctuations common in RC racing environments. Whether you're running your RC car in warm summer conditions or cool winter weather, a quality silicone shock oil like this ensures your suspension damping remains consistent and predictable. The 563CST viscosity measurement is derived from standardised testing protocols and represents the oil's kinematic viscosity at 40 degrees Celsius, providing a reference point that allows you to compare this product with other shock fluids and make informed decisions about which weight is best suited to your vehicle setup. Many RC drivers use shock oil viscosity as one of their primary tuning tools, adjusting from lighter fluids when they want quicker suspension response and more responsive handling, or switching to heavier oils when they need more damping to control excessive bounce and instability. The 42.5WT formulation sits comfortably in the mid-range of viscosity options, making it suitable for general-purpose RC car and truck applications including stadium trucks, buggies, and short course trucks. TLR's manufacturing reputation ensures consistent quality across batches, so drivers can be confident that replacement bottles will perform identically to their original shock oil, maintaining suspension consistency and eliminating variables during tuning sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 42.5WT and 563CST mean on this shock oil? — The WT designation stands for weight and indicates the oil's viscosity or thickness at a standardised temperature, whilst CST (centistokes) provides a precise scientific measurement of that same viscosity. In this case, 42.5WT with 563CST means you're getting a mid-weight shock oil suitable for general-purpose suspension tuning across a variety of RC cars and trucks.
  • How do I choose between different TLR shock oil weights? — Lighter shock oils such as 30WT or 35WT provide quicker suspension response and are often preferred by drivers who want more agile, responsive handling, whilst heavier oils like 60WT or 80WT offer more damping resistance and stability. The 42.5WT variant is an excellent starting point and middle-ground option if you're unsure which weight suits your vehicle, with adjustments possible in either direction based on track feedback and handling preferences.
  • Can I use this 42.5WT shock oil in my RC buggy or truck? — Yes, this shock oil is designed for use in RC shock absorbers found on buggies, trucks, stadium trucks and other RC vehicles. The specific viscosity may suit different vehicle types depending on your individual tuning preferences, suspension geometry and the track conditions you're racing in.
  • How often should I change my RC shock oil? — Shock oil can be changed whenever you want to adjust your suspension tuning, or whenever you notice the oil has become contaminated with dirt or degraded from extended use. Many competitive drivers refresh their shock oil regularly to ensure consistent damping performance, whilst casual bashers might change it less frequently.
  • Is this silicone shock oil better than petroleum-based alternatives? — Silicone-based shock oils like this TLR product offer superior thermal stability and resist viscosity breakdown under heat more effectively than petroleum alternatives, making them the preferred choice for serious RC drivers who demand consistent, predictable suspension performance across extended driving sessions and varying conditions.
  • What size shocks does this oil work in? — TLR shock oil is designed for use in standard RC shock absorbers across various scales and vehicle types, from small-scale buggies through to larger trucks. The 4oz bottle provides enough fluid to service multiple shocks or to maintain a stock of replacement fluid for regular suspension maintenance.
