Overview

The Traxxas Gear, 24-T pinion (32-p) (fits 3mm shaft)/ set screw TRX10841 is an essential performance tuning component for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who want to optimise their Traxxas model's acceleration and top speed characteristics. This precision-engineered pinion gear represents the perfect solution for anyone looking to fine-tune their ready to run RC car or competition-grade RC vehicle without requiring a complete overhaul. Whether you're a weekend basher enjoying RC cars for leisure or a serious competitor pushing your machine to its limits, having the right gear ratio is crucial to unlocking your model's full potential on different track conditions and terrain types.

Traxxas pinion gears are recognised throughout the RC community as quality components that allow you to customise your driving experience with precision engineering. This 24-tooth pinion gear gives you the flexibility to balance acceleration against top speed according to your specific running conditions, whether that's tight, technical courses or open, high-speed tracks. The set screw design ensures secure mounting on 3mm motor shafts, providing reliability and peace of mind during intense driving sessions. If you've ever wondered why your RC model doesn't feel quite right in certain conditions, or if you're looking to squeeze more performance from your existing setup, changing your gear ratio with a quality Traxxas pinion like this one could be exactly what you need.

As an authorised Traxxas retailer, RC Model Shop stocks genuine Traxxas gearing options that give you access to the complete tuning palette that Traxxas engineers have designed for your specific model. This isn't just a spare part—it's a performance upgrade that costs far less than replacing your entire drivetrain, making it one of the smartest investments you can make in your RC hobby.

Key Features

  • 24-Tooth Pinion Configuration — This specific tooth count provides a carefully balanced gear ratio that Traxxas engineers have refined through extensive testing, allowing you to find the perfect compromise between acceleration response and maximum velocity for your particular driving style and track layout.
  • 32-Pitch Specification — The 32-pitch (32dp) specification ensures compatibility with Traxxas spur gears and drivetrain components, maintaining proper mesh and engagement for efficient power transfer and longevity of your transmission system.
  • 3mm Shaft Bore — The precision-engineered 3mm bore fits directly onto standard Traxxas motor shafts, ensuring a secure connection that won't slip or wobble during high-torque acceleration or cornering forces.
  • Integrated Set Screw — The included set screw provides a positive locking mechanism that keeps your pinion gear firmly secured to the motor shaft, preventing slippage under load and eliminating the frustration of gear creep during intense running sessions.
  • Performance Tuning Flexibility — By changing your pinion gear tooth count, you can dramatically alter your RC car's performance characteristics without replacing expensive motors or ESCs, making this one of the most cost-effective ways to adapt your setup for different conditions.
  • Genuine Traxxas Engineering — As an official Traxxas component, this pinion gear has been engineered to the same exacting standards as your vehicle, ensuring reliable mesh with your spur gear and consistent performance throughout its lifespan.

Technical Performance

This 24-tooth pinion gear represents a mid-range tooth count option within the Traxxas gearing lineup, offering a balanced approach to performance tuning. The 32-pitch specification is a standard measurement in RC engineering that determines how the teeth on your pinion will engage with the teeth on your spur gear—getting this specification correct is absolutely critical for proper operation. The precision-cut teeth are manufactured to exacting tolerances, ensuring smooth mesh, minimal backlash, and efficient power delivery from your motor to your wheels. The 3mm bore diameter is the standard shaft size found on most Traxxas brushed and brushless motors, making this gear compatible with a wide range of Traxxas models across different scales and configurations. The set screw mechanism provides positive engagement without requiring special tools or complex installation procedures—a simple hex key is all you need to secure it firmly to your motor shaft. When combined with your existing spur gear, this 24-tooth pinion will alter your overall gear ratio, affecting both how quickly your model accelerates and what its theoretical maximum top speed will be. Consulting your specific model's owner's manual will help you understand what other pinion options are available and how different tooth counts will affect your particular vehicle's performance. The hardened steel or composite material construction ensures durability even under the stresses of high-torque acceleration and high-speed running.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does gear ratio mean and why should I change my pinion gear? — Your pinion gear (small gear on the motor) meshes with your spur gear (large gear on the transmission) to create your overall gear ratio. A smaller pinion (fewer teeth) creates a higher gear ratio, giving better acceleration but lower top speed. A larger pinion (more teeth) creates a lower gear ratio, giving higher top speed but slower acceleration. By choosing the right pinion tooth count, you can optimise your RC car for the specific conditions you'll be running in—tight tracks benefit from higher ratios, whilst open tracks benefit from lower ratios.
  • How do I know if the 24-tooth pinion is right for my Traxxas model? — The 24-tooth option is a mid-range selection that works well on many Traxxas models for balanced performance. However, the best choice depends on your specific model and running conditions. Always consult your Traxxas owner's manual, which will list the recommended pinion options and explain how different tooth counts will affect your model's performance. You may find that a 23-tooth or 25-tooth option is more suitable depending on your track layout and driving style.
  • What is the difference between 32-pitch and other pitch specifications? — Pitch is a critical specification that determines tooth size and spacing. A 32-pitch gear has teeth sized specifically to mesh correctly with 32-pitch spur gears. Using a pinion with the wrong pitch specification will result in poor mesh, excessive wear, and potential drivetrain damage. Always match your pinion pitch to your spur gear pitch—you cannot mix different pitch gears together.
  • Is this compatible with all Traxxas models? — This pinion gear is designed for Traxxas models with 3mm motor shafts and 32-pitch drivetrain components. Not all Traxxas models use this specification—some use different shaft sizes (5mm shafts) or different pitch specifications. Before purchasing, confirm that your specific Traxxas model uses 3mm shafts and 32-pitch gearing by checking your owner's manual.
  • Can I install this myself, or do I need professional help? — Installing a pinion gear is straightforward and requires only a hex key or Allen wrench. Remove your existing pinion by loosening its set screw, slide the new 24-tooth pinion onto your motor shaft, align it properly, and tighten the set screw securely. Most RC hobbyists handle this task themselves in just a few minutes. If you're unsure about the process, our team at RC Model Shop can provide guidance or assistance.
  • Will changing my pinion gear affect my battery runtime? — Yes, it can. A higher gear ratio (more teeth on the pinion) will require your motor to work harder to turn the wheels, potentially drawing more current and reducing runtime on a given battery. Conversely, a lower gear ratio may reduce current draw and extend runtime but will increase motor speed. The overall effect depends on your spur gear and motor combination, so testing is often the best way to find the optimal setup for your needs.
  • What other pinion tooth counts does Traxxas offer? — Traxxas offers a range of pinion options with different tooth counts to allow comprehensive performance tuning. Common options in the 32-pitch family include 23-tooth and 25-tooth variants, allowing you to fine-tune performance above or below the mid-range 24-tooth option. Check your owner's manual for your specific model's available gearing options.
