Overview

The Fastrax FAST187-4 Double-Sided Servo Tape is a professional-grade mounting solution designed for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliability and precision in their model builds. Whether you're setting up a competitive RC car, a high-performance RC buggy, an off-road crawler, or any other RC application, this versatile double-sided adhesive tape delivers secure, vibration-resistant mounting for servos, electronic speed controllers (ESCs), receivers, and countless other components. With its generous 4.5-metre roll length and substantial 2mm foam thickness, the FAST187-4 stands apart from thinner, cheaper alternatives by offering genuine shock absorption and superior holding power across multiple projects.

This is not ordinary tape. The FAST187-4 combines a closed-cell foam core with high-tack double-sided adhesive to create a mounting system that grips firmly to plastic, aluminium, and composite materials whilst remaining removable when needed. RC racers, bashers, and serious model builders trust foam servo tape like this because it protects sensitive electronics from vibration damage, reduces stress on solder joints, and keeps components perfectly positioned during high-G manoeuvres. From 1/10 scale touring cars to rock crawlers, drones to balsa aircraft, the Fastrax FAST187-4 is the professional choice for anyone who refuses to compromise on build quality.

At RC Model Shop, we stock the Fastrax FAST187-4 because we know our customers deserve tools that actually work. This tape has proven itself in workshops and competition paddocks across the UK, earning consistently positive reviews from experienced modellers who rely on it for everything from servo trays to ESC mounting, lighting module installation, and sensor attachment. When your RC model is worth hundreds of pounds and your reputation depends on reliability, you need tape that performs every single time.

Key Features

  • 25mm Wide Tape — The substantial 25mm width ensures you can cover large surface areas in a single application, making it ideal for mounting servo trays, ESC heat sinks, receiver panels, and flat-bottomed components without the need for multiple strips or fussy alignment work.
  • 4.5 Metre Roll Length — Unlike smaller rolls that run out after two or three builds, the FAST187-4 provides 4.5 metres of tape, making it perfect for workshop use, repeat projects, multiple RC models, and ensuring you always have enough for future builds without constantly reordering.
  • 2mm Thick Foam Core — The cushioning effect of the 2mm foam layer absorbs vibration and impact energy, protecting delicate electronics from shock damage and reducing strain on solder joints, wire connections, and component leads during high-G acceleration, braking, and cornering.
  • Double-Sided High-Tack Adhesive — Both sides of the tape feature strong, permanent adhesive that grips reliably to plastic RC bodies, aluminium servo mounts, carbon fibre chassis plates, composite receiver boxes, and metal ESC frames, ensuring components stay firmly in place through aggressive driving or flying.
  • Clean-Release Liner Backing — The peel-away backing exposes a clean, high-tack adhesive surface with minimal mess, allowing you to position your component accurately and adjust placement before full compression if needed, with no sticky residue left on your fingers or work surface.
  • Removable Yet Secure Hold — Unlike permanent adhesives, the FAST187-4 allows for careful removal and repositioning of components when you need to access servos, replace ESCs, upgrade wiring, or perform maintenance without damaging the underlying surface or leaving permanent adhesive residue.
  • Easy to Cut and Shape — The foam construction is forgiving and easy to work with, cutting cleanly with scissors or a hobby knife, and can be shaped to fit irregular surfaces, small servos, or large ESC heat sinks with equal ease.
  • Universal Application Compatibility — Use the FAST187-4 to mount servos, ESCs, receivers, transponders, LED lighting systems, GPS modules, telemetry sensors, batteries, and any other component that needs to be both secure and removable in RC cars, boats, aircraft, drones, and robotics platforms.
  • High-Vibration Environment Performance — The shock-absorbing foam layer makes this tape especially valuable in high-impact environments such as off-road racing, drift competition, rough terrain crawling, and aerobatic flying where vibration and G-forces are extreme.
  • Minimal Residue on Removal — When properly applied and removed with care, the FAST187-4 leaves virtually no sticky residue, protecting your RC model's finish and ensuring clean surfaces for future modifications or repairs.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax FAST187-4 represents a significant step up from cheap, thin servo tape found in discount bins and budget accessory packs. The engineering here is straightforward but effective: a closed-cell foam core measuring 2mm in thickness provides genuine mechanical damping and shock absorption. This isn't padding that compresses into uselessness; it's a structured foam that maintains its properties through repeated application and removal cycles. The foam is sandwiched between two layers of high-tack adhesive formulated specifically for RC use, meaning it bonds effectively to the plastic polycarbonate and ABS used in RC car bodies, the aluminium alloys found in servo mounts and chassis plates, and the carbon fibre composite materials used in modern performance frames. The adhesive is strong enough to handle vibration and movement without creeping or peeling, yet removable enough that you can separate components without tearing the foam or leaving permanent marks. The 25mm width provides a generous bonding area—typically sufficient to mount a standard servo in its tray, secure a mid-range ESC to a chassis plate, or attach a receiver box to an upper frame rail. The 4.5-metre roll length translates to approximately eighteen 250mm strips or nine 500mm applications, making this roll suitable for personal use across multiple models or for workshop environments serving several builders. Unlike thinner 1mm servo tapes that primarily rely on adhesive strength alone, the FAST187-4's 2mm foam means the tape can bridge small gaps and surface irregularities, creating a more forgiving installation that tolerates less-than-perfect preparation. The backing is clean-release, typically a plastic or wax-coated paper that resists premature adhesive transfer and allows for repositioning before final compression.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between the FAST187-4 and the standard 1mm FAST187 servo tape? — The key difference is thickness: the FAST187-4 features a 2mm foam core, whilst the standard FAST187 is only 1mm thick. This extra thickness on the FAST187-4 provides significantly better shock absorption, vibration damping, and capacity to fill small surface gaps, making it superior for high-impact RC applications, off-road racing, and component protection. The FAST187-4 also comes in a 4.5-metre roll compared to shorter rolls of the standard version, providing better value for workshop use and multiple projects.
  • Is this servo tape suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. The Fastrax FAST187-4 is perfect for beginners because it's forgiving, easy to use, and nearly impossible to mess up. Simply peel back the clean-release liner, position your servo or ESC, press down firmly, and you're done. The thick foam means slight misalignment or surface imperfections won't affect the bond quality. Experienced builders and professionals trust it equally, making it an ideal choice whether you're building your first RC car or your fiftieth.
  • Can I use this tape on carbon fibre chassis plates and aluminium servo mounts? — Yes, the FAST187-4's double-sided high-tack adhesive is specifically formulated to bond reliably to plastic, aluminium, and carbon fibre composite materials commonly used in RC models. It works equally well on polycarbonate bodies, aluminium frames, and carbon fibre chassis plates, making it truly universal across RC build platforms.
  • Is the FAST187-4 tape removable without damaging my RC model? — Yes, one of the primary advantages of quality servo tape like the FAST187-4 is that it remains removable. Unlike epoxy or permanent adhesives, you can carefully peel away components mounted with this tape without tearing the underlying surface or leaving permanent damage. This is essential if you need to replace a servo, upgrade an ESC, service electronics, or reconfigure your model's components.
  • How much surface area will the 4.5-metre roll cover? — With a 25mm width, the 4.5-metre roll provides approximately 112,500 square millimetres of total coverage. This translates roughly to mounting between nine and eighteen components depending on size, or sufficient tape for multiple complete RC builds. For reference, a typical servo tray requires about 2–3 strips, and an ESC mounting typically uses 1–2 strips.
  • Will the 2mm thickness of the FAST187-4 affect servo response or electronic signal quality? — No. The foam core is non-conductive and non-metallic, so it has no effect on servo response time, signal transmission, or electronic performance. It purely provides mechanical isolation and damping between the component and the mounting surface.
  • Can I use this tape for mounting batteries in my RC car? — Yes, the FAST187-4 is excellent for battery mounting. The shock absorption is particularly valuable for LiPo and NiMH packs, as it reduces vibration-induced stress on battery cells and connector solder joints. The removable nature also makes battery swaps and maintenance quick and straightforward.
  • Is the FAST187-4 suitable for high-vibration environments like off-road RC racing? — This tape is specifically designed for high-vibration environments. The 2mm foam core is engineered to absorb and dissipate vibration energy, making it ideal for off-road racing, rough terrain crawling, and any RC application where components experience significant vibration or impact forces.
  • How does the FAST187-4 compare to cheap double-sided tape from general retailers? — Generic craft tape or office double-sided tape is not suitable for RC use. The FAST187-4 is specifically formulated for RC applications, featuring high-tack adhesive, a foam core engineered for vibration damping, and materials that resist temperature changes and adhesive breakdown over time. Cheap tape will fail under RC operating conditions, leaving you with servos or ESCs rattling loose or falling out entirely.
  • Can I apply the FAST187-4 to wet or dirty surfaces? — For best results, the mounting surface should be clean and dry before application. Dirt, dust, or moisture will reduce adhesive contact and bond strength. We recommend quickly wiping the mounting surface with a dry cloth before applying the tape to ensure maximum grip.
