This tiny yet capable servo delivers reliable performance in applications where weight and size are critical constraints. Whether you're building a micro RC plane, working on a lightweight custom project, or need precision control in confined spaces, the A336 offers the perfect balance of responsiveness and durability. Designed and manufactured by Spektrum, a recognised leader in RC radio systems and servos, this sub-micro servo has earned a solid 4.5 out of 5 customer rating, reflecting its popularity among RC enthusiasts throughout the UK and beyond.
Sub-micro servos like the A336 are essential components for anyone building ultra-lightweight RC aircraft or working with scale models that demand minimal weight penalty. The A336 is an ideal choice for micro indoor flyers, lightweight trainer aircraft, and any RC project where space and mass are at a premium. Unlike larger standard servos that can unbalance delicate airframes, this 9-gram servo integrates seamlessly into micro builds whilst maintaining excellent response and control authority. The digital design ensures crisp, accurate positioning and eliminates the dead band issues sometimes found in analogue servos, giving you the precision control needed for smooth, predictable flight characteristics.
RC hobbyists choosing servos for UK-based RC car and aircraft projects understand that component quality directly impacts overall performance and enjoyment. The A336 represents Spektrum's commitment to delivering professional-grade servo technology at an accessible price point, making it an excellent addition to your RC toolkit whether you're a seasoned pilot or new to the hobby.
Key Features
- Digital Servo Technology — This servo uses digital signal processing rather than traditional analogue circuitry, delivering faster response times, improved accuracy, and virtually zero dead band for more precise and responsive control input across the full range of motion.
- Ultra-Lightweight 9-Gram Design — Weighing just 9 grams, the A336 is optimised for micro and sub-micro RC applications where every gram counts; this minimal weight makes it perfect for lightweight aircraft, indoor flyers, and other weight-sensitive projects that would be adversely affected by heavier standard servos.
- Brushed Motor Power Plant — Equipped with a reliable brushed motor, the A336 delivers consistent torque and smooth operation; brushed motors are proven workhorses in servo applications, offering excellent reliability and straightforward performance characteristics.
- 40-Tooth Spline Output — The servo features a 40-tooth spline count on its output shaft, providing excellent compatibility with a wide range of servo arms and mechanical linkages commonly used in micro RC applications across the UK hobby market.
- Nylon Gear Construction — The servo gearbox utilises nylon gears rather than metal, keeping overall weight down whilst delivering adequate strength for micro-servo applications; nylon gears are robust enough for most applications whilst contributing to the servo's light mass.
- Bushing Support System — The servo uses bushings rather than bearings to support its internal components, maintaining the lightweight design philosophy whilst providing reliable support for smooth operation under typical micro RC loads.
- Wide Operating Voltage Range — Operating across 4.8 to 6.0 volts, the A336 is compatible with both 4-cell NiCd/NiMH batteries (4.8V nominal) and 2-cell LiPo batteries (7.4V nominal when properly regulated), offering flexible power system options for your RC builds.
- 5.9-Inch Servo Cable — The servo includes a pre-installed 150mm (5.9-inch) connecting cable with standard connector, allowing for straightforward integration into your receiver and control system without the need for separate cable purchases or extensions in most micro applications.
- Complete Mounting Hardware Included — Each package includes servo securing screws and a servo arm screw, providing everything needed to physically install the servo and attach a control arm without purchasing additional fasteners.
Technical Performance
The Spektrum A336 9g Sub-Micro Servo represents a well-engineered solution for micro RC applications requiring genuine servo functionality without significant weight burden. At just 9 grams, this servo delivers impressive performance metrics: maximum servo speed of 0.12 seconds per 60 degrees and maximum torque of 0.70 kilogram-centimetres. These specifications make the A336 suitable for application in micro RC aircraft, lightweight control surface actuation, and other precision positioning tasks where space is limited and weight is precious. The brushed motor construction provides reliable, smooth operation across the full voltage range of 4.8 to 6.0 volts, making it compatible with standard 4-cell NiCd/NiMH battery packs commonly used in RC applications throughout the UK, as well as with properly regulated 2-cell lithium polymer (LiPo) power systems. The digital servo design eliminates servo jitter and improves response time compared to analogue alternatives, critical factors when controlling small, delicate airframes. The nylon gear train keeps overall weight minimal whilst delivering adequate mechanical strength; the gearbox is built to withstand the typical loads encountered in micro RC flight, including rapid control inputs and sustained deflections. The bushing support system ensures smooth operation and longevity of the internal mechanism. With a standard 40-tooth spline, the A336 integrates easily with compatible servo arms and control linkages. The 5.9-inch (150mm) lead cable provides convenient integration into most micro RC receiver configurations without requiring cable extensions for typical installation scenarios.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Spektrum A336 suitable for beginner RC pilots building their first micro aircraft? — Yes, absolutely. The A336 is an excellent choice for beginners constructing their first micro RC aeroplane. The servo is straightforward to install, requires no special configuration, and the digital design actually makes it more forgiving to use than older analogue servos. Beginners will appreciate the reliable performance and the fact that the complete mounting hardware is included in the package, eliminating guesswork about fastener compatibility.
- What voltage and battery type does the A336 require? — The A336 operates across a voltage range of 4.8 to 6.0 volts. This makes it compatible with standard 4-cell NiCd or NiMH battery packs (which provide nominal 4.8 volts), which have been the traditional power source for RC aircraft throughout the UK hobby. The servo can also work with 2-cell lithium polymer batteries (7.4V nominal) when properly regulated through a BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) or voltage regulator to bring the voltage down to the acceptable 4.8-6.0V range. Always ensure your receiver BEC or external regulator is capable of providing stable voltage within this range.
- How fast is the Spektrum A336, and is it responsive enough for precise flight control? — The A336 achieves a maximum servo speed of 0.12 seconds per 60 degrees of rotation. Whilst this may sound leisurely compared to larger servos used in high-performance applications, it is entirely adequate for micro RC aircraft where control surface movements are typically small and rapid speed is not the primary concern. More importantly, the digital servo architecture eliminates dead band (the small zone where servo input creates no output), ensuring that even small control stick movements translate directly into precise surface deflection. This responsiveness is far more important for flight control than raw speed in micro applications.
- Can the A336 be used in RC cars or other non-aircraft applications? — The A336 is specifically designed and optimised for application in micro RC aircraft and similar weight-critical projects. Whilst the servo would technically function in other applications, it would not be the optimal choice for RC cars, boats, or helicopters, which typically benefit from the higher torque and more robust construction of standard-sized servos. The A336's value proposition lies in its exceptional lightness, making it the right tool specifically for aero applications.
- What makes a digital servo different from an analogue servo? — Digital servos like the A336 use microprocessor control and digital signal processing to manage motor operation, resulting in several advantages: faster response time to control input, elimination of servo dead band (where small inputs produce no output), reduced jitter (unwanted micro-movements), and improved holding strength. For micro RC aircraft, these advantages translate to smoother, more predictable control and better overall flight characteristics compared to analogue alternatives.
- Is this servo waterproof for outdoor flying? — The source documentation does not specify any waterproof rating for the A336. Whilst the servo should tolerate normal outdoor conditions including light moisture, it is not specifically rated as waterproof. For applications involving water contact or high-moisture environments, confirmation with Spektrum support is recommended before exposure to water.
