Key Features
- Single Channel S.BUS Servo Decoder — This lead decodes S.BUS protocol signals and converts them to control a single servo, allowing you to add servo channels to your S.BUS installation without cluttering your electronics bay with multiple connectors and wiring harnesses.
- Multi-Protocol Compatibility — The SBD-3 is fully compatible with S.BUS, S.BUS2 and PWM command protocols, meaning it works seamlessly with a wide range of Futaba transmitters and receivers, providing excellent compatibility across different generations of radio control equipment.
- Compact and Lightweight Design — Weighing just 0.02kg, this decoder lead is incredibly lightweight and takes up minimal space in your RC model's electronics compartment, making it ideal for tight builds where every gram and millimetre counts.
- Professional Black Finish — The sleek black colour matches professional RC installations and looks at home in competition-grade setups, maintaining the aesthetic appearance of your RC car or truck's internal electronics.
- Neat Wiring Integration — By consolidating servo control through a single decoder lead rather than multiple direct connections, the SBD-3 helps you achieve the clean, organised wiring layouts that serious RC enthusiasts demand, reducing the risk of connection errors and improving reliability.
- Authorised Futaba Component — As a genuine Futaba accessory, this decoder lead is manufactured to the same exacting standards as Futaba's transmitters and receivers, guaranteeing quality and compatibility across your entire radio control system.
Technical Performance
The Futaba SBD-3 Single Channel S.BUS Servo Decoder Lead represents precision engineering designed specifically for modern digital radio control systems. Built to work seamlessly with Futaba's S.BUS ecosystem, this decoder lead handles the conversion of digital S.BUS protocol signals into traditional PWM servo control signals, enabling you to expand your servo channel count without requiring additional receiver hardware. The decoder's ability to work with S.BUS, S.BUS2 and PWM protocols ensures broad compatibility across Futaba's product range, from entry-level ready to run RC cars to professional competition-grade brushless RC vehicles. The compact construction and minimal weight (just 0.02kg) ensure that adding this decoder lead to your RC model won't negatively impact performance or handling characteristics. The professional-grade build quality you'd expect from Futaba means this component will provide years of reliable service in demanding RC applications, whether you're running your vehicle on tarmac, dirt, or mixed terrain. The black finish is durable and designed to withstand the rigours of active RC use, including exposure to dirt, dust and moisture typical of outdoor RC bashing and racing environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does an S.BUS servo decoder lead do? — The SBD-3 converts S.BUS digital protocol signals from your Futaba receiver into traditional PWM servo control signals, allowing you to control an additional servo channel. This is particularly useful when you need more servo channels than your receiver provides, or when you want to keep your wiring neat and organised in space-constrained RC models.
- Is the Futaba SBD-3 compatible with my Futaba radio system? — Yes, the SBD-3 is designed specifically for Futaba systems and is compatible with S.BUS, S.BUS2 and PWM protocols, covering a wide range of Futaba transmitters and receivers. This makes it an excellent choice whether you're running an older S.BUS system or the latest S.BUS2 technology.
- Can I use the SBD-3 with my ready to run RC car or truck? — Absolutely. If your ready to run RC vehicle uses a Futaba S.BUS receiver, the SBD-3 decoder lead provides an easy way to add servo control without replacing your entire radio system. This makes it perfect for upgrades and customisations to existing RC setups.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — The SBD-3 is recommended for users aged 14 and over. While installation is straightforward for anyone familiar with RC electronics, this product is primarily intended for intermediate to advanced RC enthusiasts who understand S.BUS systems and servo control. Beginners might benefit from consulting an experienced RC specialist before attempting installation.
- What makes the SBD-3 better than other servo solutions? — The SBD-3 offers genuine Futaba quality and engineering, ensuring seamless integration with Futaba radio systems. Its multi-protocol support (S.BUS, S.BUS2 and PWM) provides excellent future-proofing, and the minimal weight and compact size make it ideal for builders who demand professional-grade wiring solutions in their RC models.
- How do I install the SBD-3 in my RC model? — The SBD-3 connects between your S.BUS receiver and your servo, decoding the S.BUS signal into a standard PWM control signal. For detailed installation instructions specific to your setup, we recommend consulting your Futaba receiver manual or contacting our expert team at RC Model Shop.
- What is the difference between S.BUS and S.BUS2? — S.BUS2 is an enhanced version of the original S.BUS protocol that includes additional telemetry capabilities. The good news is that the SBD-3 is compatible with both protocols, so whether you're using legacy S.BUS or the latest S.BUS2 receivers, this decoder lead will work reliably.
