It arrives fully equipped with servo horns and mounting hardware, meaning you can begin installation immediately upon receipt. For RC enthusiasts building precision models or those requiring high-speed servo actuation in confined spaces, the S3157 delivers professional-grade performance at an accessible price point.

Key Features

  • Blazingly Fast Speed Performance — The S3157 delivers an exceptional 0.09 seconds per 60-degree rotation at 6.0V, which ranks it among the fastest micro servos available. This rapid response time is absolutely critical for models where steering precision and quick corrections are essential, whether you're piloting a high-speed RC car or a responsive aircraft that demands instant control response.
  • Impressive Torque Output — With maximum torque reaching 1.7kg at 6.0V (and 1.5kg at 4.8V), this micro servo packs genuine pulling power despite its diminutive size. This torque level ensures smooth, powerful servo actuation even under load, preventing sluggish response or servo weakness during demanding manoeuvres.
  • Exceptionally Compact Dimensions — At just 21.8×11×23.2mm, the S3157 is engineered for applications where space is at an absolute premium. This compact profile allows designers to package servos in tight engine bays, wing roots, fuselage sections and confined control linkage areas without sacrificing performance or reliability.
  • Ultra-Lightweight Construction — Weighing merely 8.3 grams, this servo adds virtually no weight to your RC model, crucial for maintaining optimal weight distribution, improving acceleration, enhancing flight performance in aircraft, and maximising overall responsiveness across any platform.
  • Digital Control Precision — The S3157 employs advanced digital circuitry that provides superior control accuracy, smooth servo movement, and consistency compared to analogue alternatives. Digital servos maintain their programmed positions more accurately and respond to control inputs with greater fidelity.
  • PWM Command Protocol — Standard PWM compatibility ensures the S3157 works with virtually all standard RC radio systems and receivers used throughout the UK RC hobby. No special adapters or controllers required—it's a true plug-and-play solution.
  • Durable Resin Gear Train — The servo features robust resin gears with a 25-tooth, 4mm diameter spline configuration. Resin gears provide an excellent balance between durability and weight, with sufficient strength for normal servo duties whilst keeping mass to an absolute minimum.
  • Wide Voltage Compatibility — Operating across the 4.8V to 6.0V range, the S3157 works with standard receiver batteries and battery eliminator circuits (BEC) supplied by most modern RC receivers, making it compatible with virtually any contemporary RC setup.
  • Complete Installation Package — The servo arrives with all essential components: servo horns for different control linkage types and mounting hardware for secure installation, eliminating the need to purchase additional accessories before getting your model airborne or mobile.

Technical Performance

The Futaba S3157 represents a masterclass in micro servo engineering, delivering professional-grade performance in what can fit in the palm of your hand. The servo's digital control circuitry represents a significant step forward in precision compared to analogue designs, offering superior linearity, repeatability, and response characteristics that matter significantly in high-performance RC applications. The speed specification of 0.09 seconds per 60-degree rotation at 6.0V puts the S3157 among the fastest micro servos available, whilst the 1.7kg torque rating ensures sufficient pulling power for responsive control surfaces, steering linkages, and throttle actuation. The 8.3-gram weight figure is genuinely impressive for a servo of this performance calibre—it means designers can incorporate the S3157 into ultra-light weight builds without the mass penalties that larger, heavier servos would impose. The compact 21.8×11×23.2mm dimensions open possibilities for installation in locations where standard servos simply won't fit. Built around proven Futaba engineering established over decades of leading the RC market, the S3157 utilises resin composite gears in its transmission train, delivering an excellent compromise between durability and weight. These resin gears handle normal servo loads reliably whilst maintaining the lightweight profile essential for micro applications. The servo's PWM protocol compatibility and 4.8V to 6.0V operating range make integration with any standard UK RC radio system straightforward and hassle-free. Whether powering it from a 4-cell NiMH pack, a 2S LiPo battery, or a receiver BEC circuit, the S3157 performs consistently across its entire voltage envelope, with proportionally improved speed and torque as supply voltage increases from 4.8V to the optimal 6.0V running level.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Futaba S3157 suitable for beginners building RC models in the UK? — Yes, the S3157 is an excellent choice for beginners, though it's most useful in specific applications rather than general-purpose use. Its compact size and light weight make it perfect for small-scale RC cars and aircraft where space is limited. Beginners should note that this is a micro servo, so it's best suited for applications where size and weight matter critically—larger standard servos might be more appropriate for general-purpose applications. The servo's digital precision actually makes it easier to achieve responsive, smooth control compared to older analogue designs.
  • What voltage does the Futaba S3157 require? — The S3157 operates across a 4.8V to 6.0V voltage range, which covers standard RC battery configurations. It works perfectly with a 4-cell NiMH receiver battery pack (4.8V nominal), a 2-cell LiPo battery (7.4V nominal—regulated down to 6V through a standard receiver BEC), or any receiver BEC circuit that supplies 4.8V to 6.0V. For optimal speed and torque performance, run it at 6.0V when your receiver BEC supplies this voltage. At 4.8V, the servo remains fully functional though with slightly reduced speed (0.10 seconds per 60 degrees) and torque (1.5kg).
  • How fast is the Futaba S3157 compared to other micro servos? — The S3157's 0.09 second speed at 6.0V is genuinely impressive for a micro servo, placing it at the top of the speed rankings for servos in this size category. Many competing micro servos run at 0.10 to 0.12 seconds per 60 degrees, making the S3157 noticeably quicker. This speed advantage translates directly to more responsive steering in RC cars and more nimble control response in aircraft.
  • What applications are the S3157 best suited for? — The S3157 excels in applications where compact size and minimal weight are non-negotiable requirements. Typical uses include high-performance RC drift cars with limited under-bonnet space, scale model aircraft where weight budget is critical, small-scale RC helicopters, micro RC quadcopters, compact scale crawlers, and any custom build where the builder needs to minimise servo footprint and mass. It's less suitable for applications where maximum torque is the priority—standard full-size servos handle heavy-duty steering or throttle actuation better.
  • Can the S3157 be used with any standard RC radio system? — Absolutely. The S3157 uses standard PWM command protocol, which is the universal standard for RC servo communication. It works with any receiver that outputs standard PWM signals—so every major brand receiver (Spektrum, Futaba, JR, FlySky, etc.) used in the UK RC hobby will interface perfectly with the S3157. No special adapters, programmers, or compatibility modifications are required.
  • How durable are the resin gears in the S3157? — Resin gears offer a proven balance of durability and light weight. They handle normal servo loads reliably across extended operating periods. Resin gears are slightly less robust than metal alternatives under extreme shock loads, so avoid forcing the servo against mechanical stops or applying sudden violent forces to the servo horn. With normal careful use, the S3157's resin gear train provides years of reliable service. If extreme durability under shocks is required, metal-gear servos would be a better choice, though they're heavier and bulkier.
  • Is this servo suitable for scale realism builds? — The S3157's ultra-compact size and low weight make it particularly valuable in scale builds where every component contributes to authenticity. The servo is easy to conceal within scale bodies and fuselages, and its minimal mass helps maintain accurate weight distribution in scale models. The fast, smooth digital control ensures responsive handling that makes scale models feel more authentic and planted.
