Overview

The RadioLink R8EF 2.4GHz 8-Channel Receiver (RLKR081005) is a compact and lightweight receiver designed specifically for RC enthusiasts looking to add multi-channel control to their models. Whether you're building a custom RC car, truck, boat, or aircraft, this receiver offers the versatility and reliability needed for smooth operation across a wide range of RC applications throughout the UK and beyond. Weighing just 7 grams and measuring only 49mm in length, the R8EF is engineered to fit into tight spaces without compromising on performance, making it an excellent choice for both experienced RC racers and hobbyists discovering the world of RC for the first time.

This receiver operates on the RL-Basic protocol and is compatible exclusively with the RadioLink T8FB transmitter, ensuring a secure and stable connection with low latency and high resolution control. The 8-channel configuration provides the flexibility to control multiple servos and electronic components simultaneously, whilst the multiple output options—including S-Bus, PPM, and PWM—allow you to adapt the receiver to your specific setup requirements. With a control distance of up to 500 metres on the ground and 1000 metres in the air (depending on environmental conditions), the R8EF delivers the range you need for serious RC operations.

Available at RC Model Shop, this RadioLink receiver represents outstanding value at £13.49, offering professional-grade functionality at an affordable price point. Whether you're upgrading an existing RC model or building from scratch, the R8EF is a reliable component that will serve you well for years to come.

Key Features

  • 8-Channel Multi-Function Control — This receiver provides eight independent channels, allowing you to control multiple servos, motor controllers, and auxiliary devices simultaneously, giving you the flexibility to create complex RC models with steering, throttle, and auxiliary functions all working together seamlessly.
  • RL-Basic Protocol Technology — The receiver uses the RL-Basic radio protocol, which ensures secure, low-latency communication with your RadioLink T8FB transmitter, meaning your commands are executed instantly without lag or interference, critical for both racing and precision flying applications.
  • Multiple Output Options — The R8EF offers S-Bus output on CH1, PPM output on CH2, and full PWM outputs on CH1–CH8, with the flexibility to use S-Bus and PWM outputs in conjunction, allowing you to match your receiver to virtually any ESC, servo, or control system you might be using in your RC setup.
  • Ultra-Compact Design — Weighing just 7 grams and measuring 49mm x 21mm x 11mm, this receiver is one of the smallest on the market, making it ideal for weight-sensitive applications like RC aircraft and smaller RC cars where space and mass are at a premium.
  • 2048 High-Resolution Control — With 2048-level resolution at 0.5 microseconds per section, the R8EF provides extremely precise control inputs, translating to smooth, responsive handling that serious RC racers and flyers will immediately appreciate.
  • Wide Operating Voltage Range — The receiver accepts input voltage from 4.8V to 10V, meaning it works comfortably with both standard 5V power supplies and higher voltage battery systems, providing compatibility across a broad spectrum of RC platforms and configurations.
  • Low Power Consumption — Drawing only 30mA at 5V input voltage, the receiver is extremely efficient, minimising battery drain and allowing extended operating sessions without frequent recharging of your power supply or receiver battery pack.
  • Extended Control Range — With up to 500 metres of ground control distance and 1000 metres of aerial range (subject to environmental conditions), the R8EF gives you the freedom to operate your RC models at considerable distances, whether you're flying a quadcopter, flying an FPV aircraft, or operating a high-speed RC car at the track or across open terrain.
  • T8FB Transmitter Compatibility — This receiver is specifically designed to work with the RadioLink T8FB transmitter, ensuring a perfectly matched pairing with full feature compatibility and optimal performance out of the box.

Technical Performance

The RadioLink R8EF represents a masterclass in compact receiver design, delivering professional-grade performance in a package that weighs less than a postage stamp. Built using quality materials and precision engineering, this receiver is constructed to withstand the vibrations and stresses of active RC use, whether in racing applications, off-road bashing, or aerial operations. The 2048-level resolution ensures that every input from your transmitter is captured with pinpoint accuracy, translating to smooth, predictable handling that you can rely on when precision matters most. Operating across a wide voltage range of 4.8V to 10V gives you exceptional flexibility in powering the receiver—whether you're using a dedicated 5V BEC from your ESC, a separate battery pack, or a voltage regulator, the R8EF will function reliably. The low 30mA current draw at 5V means the receiver won't create a significant power drain on your system, extending flight times for aircraft or run times for RC cars and trucks. The dual output capabilities—with S-Bus, PPM, and PWM all available—mean you can integrate this receiver into virtually any RC system architecture, from simple single-servo setups to complex multi-function models with multiple control axes. The 2.4GHz frequency band used by the RL-Basic protocol is internationally recognised and operates in less congested spectrum than older RC systems, providing superior resistance to interference and more stable operation in environments with multiple RC models operating simultaneously, such as at RC racing tracks, flying fields, and organised events throughout the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the RadioLink R8EF receiver suitable for beginners to RC hobbies? — Yes, the R8EF is an excellent choice for beginners because it offers straightforward installation, reliable performance, and doesn't require complex configuration. However, you will need the compatible RadioLink T8FB transmitter, so ensure you have or plan to purchase the correct transmitter before ordering this receiver.
  • What transmitter does this receiver require? — The RadioLink R8EF is specifically designed to work exclusively with the RadioLink T8FB transmitter using the RL-Basic protocol. It is not compatible with other RadioLink transmitter models such as the RC8X, though RC Model Shop staff can advise on alternative receiver options if you already own a different RadioLink transmitter.
  • What voltage battery does the R8EF receiver need? — The receiver accepts any power supply between 4.8V and 10V DC. This means you can use a standard 5V BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) output from your ESC, a dedicated 5-cell NiMH receiver battery pack, a 2S LiPo battery, or a voltage regulator connected to a higher voltage battery system—whatever suits your RC model best.
  • Can I use this receiver with boats and watercraft? — Yes, customers have successfully used the R8EF receiver in model boats and aquatic RC applications. However, the receiver itself is not waterproof, so you'll need to house it in a waterproof enclosure or protective case within your model's hull or body to prevent water ingress.
  • What is the control range I can expect? — The R8EF offers a control distance of up to 500 metres across open ground and up to 1000 metres when operating in the air (such as with aircraft or FPV drones). Please note that actual range depends heavily on your specific environment—RF interference from buildings, power lines, and other electronic equipment can reduce this range, whilst open spaces will provide maximum range.
  • What output types does this receiver support? — The R8EF provides three different output options: S-Bus on Channel 1, PPM on Channel 2, and PWM on all eight channels (CH1–CH8). You can also use PWM outputs on channels 3–8 in conjunction with S-Bus from channel 1, giving you flexibility to mix output protocols within a single receiver depending on your connected servos and ESCs.
  • How much power does the receiver draw? — At 5V input, the R8EF draws only 30mA of current, making it extremely efficient and minimising the load on your RC model's power system. This low power consumption is particularly valuable in aircraft applications where battery weight and endurance are critical factors.
  • How precise is the control from this receiver? — The receiver offers 2048-level resolution at 0.5 microseconds per section, meaning each input from your transmitter stick is captured with exceptional precision and converted into smooth, accurate servo movements. This level of resolution is more than sufficient for competitive RC racing, flying, and general hobbyist use.
