Overview
The Radient Charge Lead, XT60 to Tamiya Male (RDNAC010154) is an essential connector adapter designed for RC enthusiasts who need to bridge two of the most popular battery connector standards used across the RC hobby. Whether you're running brushless RC cars, electric RC buggies, or any XT60-equipped battery system, this charge lead provides a straightforward and reliable solution for connecting to Tamiya-style chargers or devices. This compact 150mm lead is perfect for UK RC hobbyists who work with multiple battery connector types and want to streamline their charging setup without investing in separate chargers for each connector style.
Built with quality copper wire construction and finished in practical black and red insulation, the Radient XT60 to Tamiya Male Charge Lead offers a neat, professional appearance on your workbench or charging station. Measuring just 150mm in length, this is genuinely a short-length solution that keeps your charging area organised and tidy. The lead is engineered specifically for charging applications, making it ideal for RC car UK enthusiasts, drone pilots, and anyone operating equipment with mismatched connector types. At RC Model Shop, we understand that battery compatibility can be confusing, which is why we stock this reliable adapter to help you maximise the flexibility of your RC setup.
This is not a performance-enhancing component, but rather a practical connector bridge that enables seamless charging across different battery systems. If you operate both XT60 and Tamiya connector batteries, this single lead eliminates the need to purchase two separate chargers or struggle with incompatible connections. It's a small investment that delivers genuine convenience and peace of mind, particularly valuable for competitive RC enthusiasts who run multiple vehicles with different electrical standards.
Key Features
- XT60 to Tamiya Male Connectors — This charge lead features an XT60 connector on one end and a Tamiya Male connector on the other, allowing you to seamlessly bridge the two most widely used battery connector types in the RC hobby. This means you can charge XT60 batteries using Tamiya-compatible chargers, or vice versa, dramatically expanding your charging flexibility without purchasing multiple chargers or carrying several bulky adapters.
- 14AWG Copper Wire Construction — The lead is manufactured from genuine 14AWG copper wire, which provides excellent electrical conductivity and durability for reliable power transfer during charging. Copper is the industry standard for RC connectors because it minimises resistance, reduces heat generation during charging, and ensures that your batteries receive consistent current delivery without voltage drop or performance loss.
- Compact 150mm Length — At just 150mm, this charge lead is genuinely short and compact, making it perfect for neat workbench setups, portable charging stations, and keeping your RC charging area organised. The shorter length also means less cable to manage, reduced weight to carry, and a cleaner aesthetic compared to longer adapter leads that can look messy and tangled when coiled up.
- Black and Red Colour Coding — The charge lead features practical black and red insulation matching standard polarity conventions, with black representing the negative terminal and red representing the positive terminal. This colour-coded system makes it instantly clear which end is which, reducing the risk of accidentally reversing polarity and damaging sensitive electronic components like chargers, batteries, or ESCs.
- Genuine Radient Brand Quality — Manufactured by Radient, a recognised name in RC battery accessories and power systems, this charge lead is built to the same standards as components found in ready-to-run RC cars and competition vehicles. Radient components are trusted by RC enthusiasts across the UK and beyond for reliability, safety, and consistent performance in demanding RC applications.
- General RC Charging Applications — This lead is specifically designed for use in standard RC charging setups where an XT60 interface is used with Tamiya-connector batteries or devices. It's ideal for hobby-grade charging, workshop environments, and any situation where you need flexible connector options without investing in specialist equipment.
Technical Performance
The Radient Charge Lead represents genuine engineering focused on practical connector compatibility rather than raw performance metrics. With its 14AWG copper wire specification, this lead is engineered to safely handle the current demands of standard RC battery charging without excessive heat generation or voltage drop. The wire gauge selection is crucial: 14AWG provides a perfect balance between current-carrying capacity and practical flexibility, allowing the lead to accommodate everything from entry-level NiMH battery chargers through to modern LiPo charging systems commonly found in brushless RC cars and high-end RC trucks used across the UK RC community. The XT60 connector, originally developed for high-current applications, is known for its robust gold-plated contacts and secure connection mechanism, whilst the Tamiya Male connector offers compatibility with the massive install base of legacy and current RC equipment. The combination of these two connector types, linked by quality copper conductors, creates a bridge that maintains electrical integrity across different battery systems. The black and red colour-coded insulation uses durable PVC materials that resist damage during handling, coiling, and storage in workshop environments. At 150mm length, this lead is engineered as a direct point-to-point adapter rather than an extension lead, meaning it minimises resistance and heat generation by keeping conductor lengths as short as practical. This is particularly important when charging at higher current rates, where every millimetre of wire length can affect charging efficiency and thermal performance. Whether you're charging competition-grade brushless RC vehicles, entry-level ready-to-run cars, or experimental builds with custom battery packs, this charge lead provides the reliable connectivity you need without compromising on safety or performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use this charge lead to connect incompatible batteries to my RC car? — No, this lead is specifically designed for charging applications only. It allows you to connect an XT60-equipped battery to a Tamiya charger (or vice versa), but it should never be used to directly connect incompatible batteries to your RC vehicle's ESC, as this can damage the electronic speed controller and render your vehicle inoperable. Always use proper connectors that match your vehicle's original design.
- Is this suitable for beginners in the RC hobby? — Yes, absolutely. If you're new to RC and have inherited or purchased vehicles with different connector types, this charge lead solves a common compatibility problem. However, beginners should always ask for advice when working with multiple battery systems, as understanding proper battery management, charging procedures, and safety protocols is essential before using adapter connectors in any application.
- What batteries can I use with this charge lead? — This lead works with any XT60-equipped battery on one end and any Tamiya-connector device on the other. Common battery types include LiPo batteries (2S through 6S and beyond), older NiMH batteries with Tamiya connectors, and modern high-capacity battery packs. The lead itself is connector-agnostic and doesn't restrict battery type; instead, it simply bridges the two connector standards.
- Why is the wire gauge (14AWG) important? — Wire gauge directly affects current-carrying capacity and resistance. 14AWG copper wire is specifically selected because it safely handles the charging currents used in hobby RC applications without excessive heating. If the wire were too thin, it could overheat during charging; if too thick, the lead would become inflexible and unwieldy. 14AWG is the industry sweet spot for RC charge leads.
- Will this charge lead work with my specific charger? — This lead works with any charger that has a Tamiya Male connector socket (the standard charger type used in the UK RC hobby) and any battery with an XT60 connector. If your charger has a different connector type (such as EC3, XT90, or Anderson PowerPole), you may need a different adapter. Always verify your charger's connector type before ordering.
- Is this lead suitable for high-current charging? — Yes, the 14AWG copper wire is rated for standard RC charging currents used in hobby applications. However, if you're using specialist high-current chargers designed for competition-grade LiPo batteries, you should verify that your specific charger's output specifications are compatible with 14AWG conductors. For most UK RC hobbyists using standard hobby chargers, this lead is perfectly adequate.
- How do I know which connector is which? — The XT60 connector features a distinctive yellow plastic housing with a cylindrical connector body, whilst the Tamiya Male connector is smaller and features a rectangular red housing. The colour coding on the lead itself (black for negative, red for positive) also helps identify polarity, making it impossible to accidentally reverse the connection.
