Overview
The Radient Silicone Wire, 14AWG, 680 Strand, 4ft / 1.2m Red-Black (RDNAC010141) is an essential component for any serious RC hobbyist in the UK. Whether you're building a custom RC car, truck, buggy or crawler, or upgrading the wiring in an existing model, this premium silicone-insulated cable delivers the performance and reliability you need. Silicone insulation is the choice of professional RC builders and enthusiasts because it remains flexible in cold conditions, resists heat better than standard PVC, and offers superior durability during repeated bending and flexing — exactly what your RC vehicle experiences during intense racing and bashing sessions.
This particular wire features a heavy-duty 14 gauge conductor with an impressive 680-strand construction, which means the wire is made up of 680 individual copper strands twisted together. This multi-strand design is significantly more flexible than solid-core wire, allowing you to route it easily through tight spaces in your RC model's chassis without kinking or breaking. The 4-foot (1.2-metre) length gives you plenty of wire to work with whether you're wiring up a motor, ESC (electronic speed controller), battery connector, or building custom harnesses for your RC setup. The red and black colour-coding makes polarity identification straightforward, reducing the risk of reversed connections that could damage your electronics.
Available now from RC Model Shop, the authorised UK RC retailer, this Radient silicone wire is trusted by RC competitors, weekend bashers, and serious hobbyists alike. If you're looking to upgrade your RC car UK setup with premium-quality wiring that will stand up to the demands of high-performance electric RC vehicles, this is an excellent choice.
Key Features
- 14AWG Gauge Rating — This wire gauge is specifically designed for high-current applications in RC electronics, making it ideal for powering motors and connecting battery packs to your speed controller without voltage drop or overheating.
- 680-Strand Construction — The ultra-fine 680-strand design creates a wire that is dramatically more flexible than standard single or low-strand-count alternatives, allowing you to bend, route and position the wire without risk of internal copper fracture or insulation damage.
- Premium Silicone Insulation — Silicone is far superior to PVC for RC applications because it maintains its flexibility even in cold conditions, resists heat without becoming brittle, and stands up to contact with fuel, oils and solvents that are common in workshop environments.
- Red-Black Colour Coding — The clearly contrasting red and black insulation colours make positive and negative identification instant and intuitive, eliminating dangerous mistakes during wiring and assembly.
- 4ft / 1.2m Length — Generous length provides flexibility in how you route and configure your RC model's electrical system, with enough material to create custom harnesses, extension leads, or complete rewiring jobs.
- Professional-Grade Quality — Radient is a recognised brand in the RC hobby community, and this wire meets the exacting standards expected by competitive racers and professional builders.
Technical Performance
The Radient 14AWG silicone wire delivers exceptional electrical performance for demanding RC applications. The 14AWG gauge rating is specifically engineered to handle the high-current demands of brushless motors, LiPo batteries, and sophisticated electronic speed controllers without significant voltage loss. The 680-strand copper construction ensures minimum electrical resistance whilst maximising mechanical flexibility — a critical combination for RC vehicles where vibration, impacts and repetitive wire movement are constant challenges. The silicone insulation protects against moisture, heat cycling and mechanical abrasion far more effectively than standard PVC insulation, meaning your connections remain reliable even after hundreds of charge-discharge cycles and countless hours of operation. The 0.07kg shipping weight reflects the compact, lightweight nature of this component, making it easy to integrate into any RC setup without adding unnecessary mass to your vehicle. This wire is suitable for enthusiasts aged 14 and above, though adult supervision is recommended when working with high-current electrical systems. The barcode 5051121243369 ensures authenticity and compatibility with Radient's full product ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is silicone-insulated wire and why should I use it in my RC car instead of standard cable? — Silicone insulation is a superior alternative to PVC plastic insulation found on cheaper wires. Silicone remains flexible across a much wider temperature range, from freezing conditions to extreme heat, whereas PVC can become brittle in the cold and damaged by high temperatures from nearby motors and ESCs. Silicone also provides better resistance to oils, fuels and solvents that you might encounter in a workshop, and it holds up far better to the constant flexing and movement that occurs inside a running RC vehicle. For anyone serious about reliability and longevity in their RC car UK setup, silicone-insulated wire is the professional choice.
- Is 14AWG the right gauge for my RC vehicle? — 14AWG is an excellent general-purpose gauge for most brushless RC cars, buggies, trucks and crawlers running on 2S to 4S LiPo batteries. It provides a good balance between current-carrying capacity and flexibility. If you're building something extremely high-powered (like a large 1/8-scale basher or a dedicated racing machine running 6S or higher), you might consider thicker 12AWG or even 10AWG wire. For smaller vehicles or lower-power setups, 16AWG is acceptable, though 14AWG provides a comfortable safety margin and is the most commonly recommended size among RC builders.
- How much current can this 14AWG silicone wire safely handle? — 14AWG silicone wire is rated for continuous current applications up to approximately 25-30 amps under typical operating conditions, though peak current handling is significantly higher. For most brushless RC setups running on 3S or 4S LiPo batteries with motors in the 3000-4000KV range, you'll be well within safe limits. If you're running a high-performance ESC rated for 100+ amps with a low-KV, high-torque motor, consider upgrading to 12AWG or 10AWG wire for the motor connections.
- What does the 680-strand construction mean and why does it matter? — The 680-strand construction refers to the number of individual copper wire strands twisted together to create the conductor inside the insulation. More strands mean the wire is significantly more flexible and resistant to cracking from repeated bending. A 680-strand wire will bend thousands of times without metal fatigue, whereas a solid-core or low-strand-count wire can develop internal fractures that increase resistance and create dangerous hotspots. For RC applications where the wire must flex constantly, 680-strand is an excellent specification that ensures durability and reliable connections.
- Is this wire suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. The red-black colour coding makes it easy to identify positive and negative, and the flexibility of silicone-insulated wire makes it much easier to work with than stiff alternatives. If you're building your first custom RC harness or rewiring an upgraded RC car UK project, this Radient silicone wire is an ideal starting point. Just ensure you follow proper soldering techniques and use heat-shrink tubing to insulate your connections.
- Can I use this wire for both high-current power connections and low-current signal wiring? — Yes, although 14AWG is somewhat oversized for low-current signal connections (like servo leads or telemetry lines), the flexibility and durability of this wire make it suitable for both applications. If you need to minimise weight or space constraints, you might use thinner 18AWG or 20AWG silicone wire for signals, but the premium quality of this 14AWG means you can confidently use it anywhere in your RC setup.
