Overview

The Radient Silicone Wire, 16AWG, 100ft / 30m Black (RDNAC010138) is an essential workshop staple for RC enthusiasts across the UK. Whether you're building custom power leads, creating field extensions, or tackling general wiring projects, this generous spool of high-quality silicone wire provides the flexibility and reliability that serious RC hobbyists demand. Supplied on a convenient roll, this 16-gauge black silicone wire is the go-to choice for RC car UK builders, drone pilots, and electronics specialists who need dependable wiring solutions without compromise.

Silicone insulation offers superior flexibility and temperature resistance compared to standard PVC alternatives, making it ideal for the demanding environments where RC equipment operates. From brushless motor connections in 1/10 scale RC cars and trucks to power distribution in multirotors and FPV drones, this wire performs reliably in workshop conditions and field use. The 100-foot length provides outstanding value, allowing you to stock your pit box with enough wire for multiple projects, repairs, and custom lead creation across an entire season of racing, bashing, or flying.

RC Model Shop stocks the Radient Silicone Wire as part of our comprehensive range of RC spares and upgrades. Whether you're a seasoned competitor preparing for the next round, a weekend basher maintaining your fleet, or a beginner discovering RC electronics for the first time, having quality wiring on hand is essential for keeping your RC experience moving forward without frustration or delays.

Key Features

  • 16AWG Gauge Rating — The 16-gauge specification provides an optimal balance between current-carrying capacity and flexibility, making this wire suitable for general RC power applications, bench wiring, custom leads and extension cords where heavy-duty 12AWG thickness isn't necessary.
  • 100 Feet / 30 Metres Length — With a full 100-foot spool, you have more than enough wire to complete multiple projects, create custom battery leads, extend servo connections across larger chassis, and maintain a well-stocked workshop supply without running short mid-project.
  • Silicone Insulation — The silicone insulation delivers superior heat resistance and flexibility compared to standard PVC wire, allowing the cable to maintain its integrity in high-temperature motor compartments and around battery compartments whilst remaining easy to route and manipulate during builds.
  • Black Colour — The black finish provides excellent visibility against most RC chassis colours, making it easier to identify wiring during assembly, troubleshooting and maintenance, whilst presenting a professional appearance in finished builds.
  • Convenient Spool Format — Supplied on a roll rather than in pre-cut segments, the spool design allows you to dispense exactly the length you need for each application, minimising waste and keeping your workshop organised with a single, easy-to-store component.
  • Workshop and Field Ready — Whether you're working at the bench during assembly and repairs or out at the track and flying field making emergency adjustments, this practical wire spool is suitable for use in all RC environments and conditions.
  • Universal RC Application Compatibility — From RC cars, trucks and crawlers requiring general wiring and motor connections, to RC boats and planes needing bench wiring and custom extensions, through to multirotors and FPV drones requiring reliable power distribution, this wire suits the complete spectrum of RC hobbies.

Technical Performance

The Radient Silicone Wire 16AWG represents proper engineering for serious RC use. The 16-gauge conductor size balances current capacity with practical flexibility, making it ideal for general RC applications where you're routing power from battery systems to brushless ESCs, connecting servo leads, creating battery extensions, and building custom wiring harnesses. The silicone insulation material is specifically chosen for RC applications because it maintains its properties across the temperature ranges experienced in typical RC equipment — from cool workshop conditions through to the elevated temperatures found near brushless motors during extended run sessions. The wire's flexibility is significantly superior to rigid alternatives, allowing clean routing through cramped chassis spaces, around motor mounts, and through body clips without risk of insulation cracking or conductor breakage during flexing and movement. This construction quality ensures that your custom leads remain reliable throughout an entire season of RC activity, whether you're running 2S, 3S or 4S LiPo batteries powering your vehicles, or using traditional NiMH pack systems. The black colour matches standard RC aesthetics and makes troubleshooting connections straightforward when you need to verify wiring during maintenance. At 0.57kg shipping weight for the complete 100-foot spool, this is a lightweight addition to your workshop that delivers substantial practical value across dozens of projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What gauge wire do I need for my RC car or drone? — The 16AWG specification is ideal for general RC applications including motor connections, servo leads, battery extensions and custom power harnesses. Heavier gauge wire (12AWG or 10AWG) is typically reserved for very high-current applications or main battery leads in large-scale vehicles, whilst lighter gauges (18AWG or 20AWG) suit low-current control circuits. For most RC cars, trucks, crawlers, boats, planes and multirotors, 16AWG offers the right balance of current capacity and workability.
  • How much wire do I get and how many projects will it cover? — With 100 feet (30 metres) on a single spool, you have enough wire for numerous projects. A typical RC car motor lead might use 2-3 feet, a servo extension lead 3-5 feet, and a battery extension harness 4-6 feet. This means a single spool can support 15-20+ small projects or several larger custom harness builds, making it outstanding value for a fully-stocked workshop.
  • Why is silicone insulation better than standard PVC for RC use? — Silicone insulation flexes more readily than PVC without cracking, remains flexible at low temperatures, and resists the elevated temperatures generated near brushless motors and in hot summer conditions. Silicone wire is the standard choice among serious RC builders and manufacturers because it simply lasts longer and performs more reliably through the demands of hobby use.
  • Is this suitable for beginners learning to build RC models? — Absolutely. Beginners benefit greatly from having quality, flexible wire available when first learning to build custom leads, understand battery connections, and assemble RC vehicles. The generous 100-foot spool means you can experiment and learn without worrying about running out of wire, whilst the quality construction ensures your first builds work reliably.
  • Can I use this wire with LiPo and NiMH batteries? — Yes. The 16AWG gauge is rated for the current levels delivered by typical 2S, 3S and 4S LiPo battery packs, as well as traditional 6-cell NiMH packs used in RC cars, trucks, boats and planes. Always match connector types and solder quality to the wire gauge when building custom leads.
  • What makes this better than cheaper imported wire? — Radient wire is engineered specifically for RC use with proper silicone insulation and accurate gauge rating. Cheaper alternatives often use lower-grade insulation that becomes brittle, incorrect gauge labelling that affects current capacity, or poor solder connections. Radient quality means your custom leads remain reliable throughout multiple seasons of use rather than failing mid-season.
