Technical Performance
The Radient Deans Female with Cap End connectors deliver the electrical performance and build quality expected from a premium RC component manufacturer. These female connectors are engineered to handle the continuous current demands of modern RC vehicles, from modest 2WD electric buggies through to high-performance brushless 4WD trucks and 1/8-scale nitro-powered models. The Deans connector standard itself is renowned for its low-resistance design and secure polarised connection, preventing accidental reverse polarity that could damage expensive ESCs and batteries. Each connector in this five-piece pack features consistent manufacturing quality, ensuring reliable performance across all your RC applications. The protective cap end design protects the connectors during storage and transport, whilst the female configuration ensures safe battery end integration with standard Deans-equipped battery packs. Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a Deans connector and why is it popular in RC UK? — The Deans connector is an industry-standard polarised connector format widely used across RC vehicles in the United Kingdom for connecting batteries to ESCs and chargers. Its popularity stems from its low-resistance design, compact size, and secure connection mechanism that prevents accidental disconnection during driving. Standardising on Deans connectors across your RC fleet eliminates the need for multiple adapter cables and reduces compatibility issues.
- Are these female Deans connectors suitable for beginners? — These connectors are recommended for users aged 14 and over who have basic soldering experience. Beginners should ensure they understand proper soldering techniques and correct polarity before installation. If you're new to soldering, it's worth practising on scrap wire first or asking experienced RC friends at your local UK club for guidance before soldering connectors to your valuable battery packs.
- Can I use these female Deans connectors with any RC battery? — These female connectors are compatible with any standard Deans-equipped RC battery pack, whether lithium polymer (LiPo), lithium iron phosphate (LiFe), or nickel metal hydride (NiMH) chemistry. They work with battery packs rated for 2S through 8S configurations and higher, making them versatile across the entire spectrum of UK RC vehicle types from small 2WD buggies to large monster trucks and crawler models.
- How many connectors do I get and why do I need five? — This pack contains five female Deans connectors, providing spare capacity for multiple projects, emergency replacements, and future builds. Having spares means you'll always have replacement connectors available without waiting for delivery, and if you're building or upgrading several RC models simultaneously, five connectors give you flexibility to work on multiple vehicles.
- What battery types and ESCs work with Deans female connectors? — These connectors are compatible with all ESCs, chargers, and adapters that support the standard Deans connector format, which includes the vast majority of modern brushless ESCs from manufacturers like Hobbywing, Spektrum, Dynamite, and others. They work with LiPo batteries, LiFe batteries, NiMH batteries, and any other pack type using standard Deans connectors.
- Do I need any special tools to install these connectors? — Installation requires a soldering iron, solder, and basic hand tools. You'll need to strip and tin the battery lead wires, then solder them securely into the connector terminals. Proper soldering technique is essential to ensure reliable connections that won't fail during use. A helping hand or third-hand soldering tool, available from RC Model Shop, can make the job much easier.
- How do I ensure correct polarity when soldering? — The Deans connector design includes a polarising mechanism that prevents incorrect installation. However, you must ensure the positive wire (typically red) and negative wire (black) are soldered to the correct terminals within the connector housing. Take your time during installation, and if you're uncertain, consult the battery manufacturer's documentation or seek advice from experienced RC friends.
- What's the difference between male and female Deans connectors? — Female connectors have internal receptacles and are designed for battery end connections, whilst male connectors have protruding pins and are typically used on ESC and charger leads. This five-piece pack contains female connectors for battery applications. Using the correct gender prevents accidental short circuits and ensures safe power delivery to your RC models.
