The 4.7mm size is one of the most commonly used diameters in RC applications, making it incredibly versatile for everything from motor wire insulation to servo lead protection. Keep several packs in your RC workshop so you never run out of this critical material when you need it most.
Key Features
- Eight pre-cut pieces per pack — This generous quantity ensures you have sufficient heat shrink tubing for multiple repair jobs, wiring projects, or complete model builds without needing to purchase additional supplies. The pre-cut design saves you valuable workshop time, allowing you to focus on your RC work rather than measuring and cutting tubing manually.
- 4.7mm outer diameter — This is one of the most versatile sizes in RC hobby work, fitting perfectly over standard RC motor wires, servo leads, battery connectors, and other common components found in electric RC cars, boats, and aircraft. The size accommodates both thin signal wires and thicker power conductors used in modern brushless RC systems.
- 100mm length per piece — Each piece measures 100mm (approximately 4 inches), providing ample material for covering solder joints, insulating connector terminals, bundling multiple wires together, or protecting critical connections on your RC model. This length is ideal for typical RC applications without excessive waste.
- Professional protection and insulation — Heat shrink tubing creates a permanent, waterproof seal around connections and components when heated, protecting against moisture, dirt, and environmental contaminants that can damage RC electronics. This is especially important for RC models used in wet conditions or outdoor environments where water ingress can cause corrosion and failure.
- Radient brand quality — Radient is a recognised and trusted manufacturer within the RC hobby community, distributed in the UK through authorised retailers. Their components are known for reliability and consistency, giving you confidence that your heat shrink tubing will perform as expected across multiple projects.
- Affordable consumable pricing — As a consumable item that you'll use repeatedly in your RC hobby, the low cost per pack makes it practical to stock several in your workshop. You'll never be caught without heat shrink tubing when you need it for urgent repairs or last-minute modifications before RC racing events.
- Reusable across multiple RC models — Whether you're working on a brushless RC buggy, a nitro-powered RC truck, an electric RC boat, or an RC aircraft, this universal tubing size fits a wide variety of applications across different vehicle types and scales. The versatility means one pack serves your entire RC hobby collection.
- Easy application with standard heat tools — The tubing activates and shrinks when exposed to heat from a heat gun, soldering iron, or even a hair dryer, creating a tight, professional-looking finish. No special tools or complex procedures are required—any RC modeller can achieve professional results.
Technical Performance
Heat shrink tubing operates through a simple but effective principle: the material is manufactured with a specific molecular memory that causes it to contract when heated. The Radient tubing in this pack provides reliable thermal shrinkage at temperatures typically achieved with standard hobby heat guns or soldering equipment. The 4.7mm nominal outer diameter is engineered to shrink down snugly over standard gauge wires and connectors used in modern electric RC cars and brushless RC systems, creating an effective seal that prevents moisture penetration and short circuits. The tubing maintains its protective properties across the temperature ranges typically experienced in RC applications, from indoor climate-controlled environments to outdoor racing conditions. The material is non-flammable and provides electrical insulation rated for the voltages found in RC battery systems ranging from 2S LiPo through to high-voltage 6S and even 8S systems used in larger brushless RC vehicles. The 100mm length of each pre-cut piece is perfectly proportioned for typical RC wiring tasks: covering a soldered XT60 connector joint requires approximately 20-30mm, leaving ample material for multiple applications. This pack's eight pieces provide sufficient material for a complete RC model wiring harness rebuild, multiple battery connector replacements, or numerous repair jobs on various vehicles in your RC collection. The consistent manufacturing quality ensures uniform shrink rates across all pieces in the pack, meaning you can rely on the same performance whether you're working on your first piece or your eighth.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What size heat shrink tubing do I need for my RC model wiring? — The 4.7mm diameter in this pack is one of the most commonly used sizes in RC hobby work. It fits perfectly over standard XT60 battery connectors (when shrunk around both the male and female halves), XT90 connectors, EC3 connectors, and typical motor wire gauges used in brushless RC cars and boats. If you're unsure whether this size is right for your specific application, measure the outer diameter of your connector or wire and compare it to 4.7mm—the tubing will shrink down roughly 15-20% when heated, so it should slide easily over your component but grip firmly once shrunk.
- How do I apply heat shrink tubing to my RC components? — Simply slide the tubing over your connector or wire joint, then carefully apply heat from a heat gun, soldering iron, or even a carefully controlled hair dryer. Move the heat source around the tubing to ensure even shrinking and prevent burning or damage to adjacent components. The tubing will visibly contract within seconds of reaching the proper temperature. For RC work, a heat gun set to medium temperature (around 150-200°C) works best, though a soldering iron held near (not touching) the tubing also works effectively. Allow the tubing to cool for a few seconds before handling to ensure a permanent, secure finish.
- Can I use this heat shrink tubing on high-voltage RC systems? — Yes, absolutely. This tubing is suitable for the full range of voltages used in modern RC hobby applications, from 2S LiPo systems (7.4 volts nominal) through to 8S systems (29.6 volts nominal) commonly found in large brushless RC vehicles. The material provides reliable electrical insulation at all these voltage levels, making it suitable for protecting battery connectors, ESC (electronic speed controller) input terminals, and motor wire connections on any brushless RC car or boat in your collection.
- Why should I use heat shrink tubing on my RC model? — Heat shrink tubing protects your RC electronics in several critical ways: it insulates bare wire connections to prevent accidental shorts that can damage your brushless motor or ESC, it creates a waterproof seal around solder joints that keeps moisture out and prevents corrosion, it organises wire bundles to improve airflow and cooling around components, it protects connections from vibration damage that can occur during high-speed RC driving or racing, and it gives your model a professional appearance that reflects quality workmanship. For anyone serious about their RC hobby—whether competing in organised RC racing events or simply maintaining vehicles properly—heat shrink tubing is an essential finishing touch.
- How many connectors can I protect with this eight-piece pack? — This depends on your specific application. If you're covering a single large connector joint, one piece might be sufficient. For a complete XT60 battery connector pair (male and female), you would typically use one piece per connector, giving you enough for four complete battery connectors from this pack. For bundling motor wires on a brushless RC car, you might use one piece per motor setup. Most RC enthusiasts find that an eight-piece pack is ideal for keeping in the workshop for general repairs, maintenance, and small modification projects, with many stocking multiple packs for larger build projects.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes, heat shrink tubing is an excellent introduction to RC model finishing and protection work, even for beginners. The application process is simple and forgiving—there's minimal risk of damaging your components if done carefully. Starting with this consumable pack is an affordable way to learn proper wiring practices and add professional touches to your first RC models. As you progress in the hobby, you'll use heat shrink tubing repeatedly across all your RC vehicles, so building a stock of supplies is a sensible investment in your hobby foundation.
- What is the difference between this and other heat shrink tubing? — The Radient brand is specifically trusted and stocked by UK RC retailers and distributors as a quality product within the hobby. The 4.7mm size and 100mm length combination in this pack represent the most versatile option for general RC work, whereas some other packs offer single pre-cut lengths or assortments of various sizes. This pack's eight-piece quantity at this affordable price point offers good value for regular RC enthusiasts who use heat shrink tubing across multiple projects and models throughout the year.
