Overview

The Radient NiMH 6.0V 1600mAh 2/3A SBS-Flat Receiver Battery Pack (RDNA0088) is a compact and reliable power solution for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand dependable performance in their receiver systems. Whether you're running a nitro-powered RC car, buggy, or truggy, this 5-cell NiMH battery pack delivers consistent power delivery in a form factor that fits neatly into tight battery compartments. Built from quality 2/3A cells and featuring a standard Rx-JR connector, this receiver battery is the perfect choice for hobbyists looking to upgrade or replace their existing receiver power source without breaking the bank.

NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) technology remains a popular choice amongst RC racers and weekend bashers alike because of its forgiving charge characteristics, durability, and proven track record in the hobby. Unlike LiPo alternatives, NiMH batteries are less sensitive to overcharging and storage mismanagement, making them ideal for drivers who want a robust, no-fuss power solution. The Radient brand is recognised for producing quality battery packs that offer excellent value for money, and this 1600mAh capacity pack strikes the perfect balance between run time and compact physical dimensions.

If you're shopping for a reliable receiver battery for your RC car UK setup, this flat-pack configuration ensures it will fit seamlessly into your vehicle's battery tray, leaving more space for other components or allowing for a lower centre of gravity in your RC model. The SBS-Flat design is particularly popular in the UK RC community for vehicles where space is at a premium.

Key Features

  • 1600mAh Capacity — This mid-range capacity delivers sufficient runtime for extended driving sessions while maintaining the compact physical profile that makes the pack easy to install in space-constrained battery boxes. The 1600mAh rating ensures your receiver, servos, and switch harness stay powered throughout your bashing or racing session.
  • 5-Cell 6.0V Configuration — Five NiMH cells combine to produce a nominal 6.0V output, which is the industry standard for RC receiver systems. This voltage is compatible with the vast majority of modern RC car receivers, making this pack a drop-in replacement for countless nitro-powered vehicles and electric models that require receiver power.
  • SBS-Flat Design — The flat stick configuration (SBS stands for Stick Battery Size) is engineered specifically to fit into the receiver battery compartments found in most RC cars, buggies, and truggies. This form factor is far more practical than bulkier hump-style packs, allowing drivers to maintain better weight distribution and easier access to battery compartments.
  • Rx-JR Connector — The battery features a standard Rx-JR connector (also known as a JR receiver plug), which is the most common connection standard across the RC hobby. This ensures compatibility with receiver switch harnesses from JR, Spektrum, Futaba, and other major RC brands, making it a versatile solution for most RC vehicles in circulation.
  • 2/3A Cell Size — The 2/3A cell chemistry and dimensions (83mm length × 30mm width × 17mm depth) represent the industry standard for flat receiver battery packs. These dimensions ensure the pack will fit into OEM battery trays on vehicles ranging from entry-level RTR models to serious competition rigs.
  • Durable NiMH Chemistry — Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries are renowned in the RC hobby for their durability, reliability, and resistance to damage from accidental overcharging. If you're new to RC or prefer a battery that's forgiving of charging mistakes, NiMH is an excellent choice that won't let you down.
  • Lightweight Construction — At just 120 grams (4.23 ounces), this battery pack won't significantly impact your vehicle's weight or handling characteristics, ensuring your RC model performs as the designer intended without unnecessary ballast.

Technical Performance

The Radient RDNA0088 receiver battery represents solid engineering and proven performance in a category where reliability trumps extreme specifications. Built from five 2/3A NiMH cells arranged in series to deliver 6.0V nominal output, this pack provides the consistent voltage regulation that modern RC receiver systems demand. The 1600mAh capacity is substantial enough to power your receiver, multiple high-torque servos, and electronic switch systems throughout extended driving sessions, whether you're running a nitro-powered engine with hungry fuel pumps or an electric RTR model that demands continuous servo actuation.

The flat stick configuration measures precisely 83mm in length, 30mm in width, and 17mm in depth — dimensions that have been the industry standard for receiver batteries since the early 2000s. This means the Radient pack will fit into virtually any RC car, buggy, truggy, or crawler that was designed to accommodate a flat receiver battery. The pack weighs 120 grams, which is negligible in the context of most RC vehicles, ensuring it won't affect your vehicle's performance or handling balance. The Rx-JR connector is soldered securely to the battery pack and features the standard JR receiver plug configuration, meaning it will work with any receiver switch harness that features a JR-style connector — by far the most common standard in the UK RC market. NiMH chemistry delivers a discharge curve that remains relatively flat across the battery's runtime, meaning your receiver maintains consistent power delivery until the battery is nearly depleted, unlike LiPo chemistry which drops voltage more precipitously as charge depletes. This characteristic is particularly valuable in receiver systems where servo performance degrades noticeably with low voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Radient RDNA0088 suitable for my nitro RC car? — Yes, this receiver battery is specifically designed for nitro-powered vehicles. The 1600mAh capacity provides ample power for receiver operation and fuel pump systems even in high-output nitro engines. Many UK nitro enthusiasts choose 6V NiMH receiver packs because they're proven reliable, affordable, and require no special charging procedures.
  • What is the difference between this NiMH battery and a LiPo receiver battery? — The Radient RDNA0088 uses forgiving Nickel-Metal Hydride chemistry, whereas LiPo alternatives feature Lithium-Polymer chemistry with higher power density. NiMH packs like this one are more tolerant of overcharging, have simpler charging requirements (standard chargers work fine), and won't swell or puff if left uncharged for extended periods. LiPo packs require careful charge management with smart chargers. For recreational RC driving, many hobbyists prefer the simplicity and durability of NiMH.
  • Will this battery fit in my RC vehicle's battery tray? — The SBS-Flat configuration is the industry standard for receiver batteries and will fit in virtually any RC car, buggy, truggy, or crawler designed in the last two decades. The specific dimensions (83mm × 30mm × 17mm) match the original Sanyo design that became the benchmark for flat receiver packs. If your vehicle has a flat receiver battery compartment, this pack will fit.
  • How long will this battery last on a single charge? — Runtime depends on servo load and how actively you're using steering and throttle servos. Typical runtime ranges from 1-3 hours of moderate use, though continuous servo operation (like in a high-speed racer) may reduce runtime to 45 minutes. The 1600mAh capacity ensures reasonable endurance for recreational and semi-competitive use.
  • What charger do I need for the Radient RDNA0088? — This NiMH battery works with any standard NiMH charger designed for 6V receiver packs. Many RC shops in the UK stock affordable NiMH chargers, and the battery is compatible with basic plug-in chargers as well as more advanced smart chargers. Unlike LiPo batteries, you don't need a specialised charger.
  • Is this battery suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. NiMH receiver batteries like this Radient pack are ideal for beginners because they're forgiving, durable, and simple to charge. There's no risk of the battery swelling or catching fire if you accidentally leave it plugged into a charger overnight, which is a common beginner mistake. This makes NiMH an excellent entry-point into the hobby.
