Overview
The Traxxas GT-Maxx Shock Springs in natural finish are precision-engineered suspension components designed to elevate the handling and performance of your RC monster truck. These 1.450-rate progressive springs are specifically engineered for Traxxas GT-Maxx shocks, making them an essential tune-up option for serious RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand responsive, controlled suspension performance. Whether you're a weekend basher pushing your RC monster truck to its limits, or a competitor fine-tuning your setup for optimal track performance, these shock springs deliver the suspension control that separates good handling from exceptional handling.
Progressive-rate suspension springs are custom-wound to provide a dual-benefit approach to shock performance. They deliver responsive control for small bumps and everyday driving, whilst simultaneously incorporating a progressively stiffer rate that absorbs harder impacts and bottoming-out scenarios. This means your RC truck maintains composure over rough terrain, technical obstacles, and high-speed runs without sacrificing the sensitivity needed for precise control. The natural finish construction ensures durability and longevity, making these springs a reliable investment for your RC car UK setup.
Available in pairs and compatible with popular Traxxas monster truck models including the Sledge Belted and WideMaxx, these suspension springs represent genuine Traxxas engineering and quality. Finding the right spring rate is crucial for suspension tuning, and Traxxas offers these springs in multiple rates to allow you to compensate for different vehicle configurations, track conditions, and driving styles. The higher the rate number, the firmer and stiffer the spring becomes, giving you precise control over your suspension geometry and responsiveness.
Key Features
- Progressive-Rate Design — These springs are custom-wound with a progressive rate that starts soft for small impacts and gradually increases in stiffness, providing responsive handling over bumps whilst maintaining the ability to absorb bigger hits and prevent chassis bottoming-out during aggressive driving or jumps.
- 1.450 Spring Rate — The 1.450-rate specification represents a moderately firm spring option that delivers improved suspension control and chassis stability compared to softer rates, making this ideal for drivers seeking a balance between comfort and performance on varied terrain.
- Natural Finish Construction — The natural finish coating provides protection against corrosion and wear whilst maintaining a clean, professional appearance on your shock towers, ensuring these springs maintain their structural integrity through countless RC driving sessions.
- Sold in Pairs — Each package contains two springs, allowing you to maintain consistent suspension geometry across both front and rear axles or complete a full suspension refresh for optimal balanced handling.
- Genuine Traxxas Engineering — As an official Traxxas component, these springs meet the exact specifications and tolerances required by the manufacturer, ensuring perfect fitment and performance with your compatible Traxxas platform.
- Suspension Tuning Flexibility — By offering springs in different rates, Traxxas empowers RC enthusiasts to fine-tune their suspension setup, compensate for heavier or lighter vehicle configurations, and adapt to different track conditions or driving styles without replacing the entire shock assembly.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas GT-Maxx shock springs represent a critical component in your RC monster truck's suspension architecture. At 1.450 rate, these springs deliver a moderately firm suspension response that professionals and experienced enthusiasts choose when they need improved control over factory-standard setups. Progressive-rate springs work by increasing their resistance as they compress, which means initial deflection feels relatively responsive and compliant, but as the suspension compresses further into larger bumps or landings, the spring rate increases to prevent bottoming-out and protect your chassis components from damage. This progressive action is particularly valuable for RC trucks that experience variable terrain, from smooth surfaces to rocky obstacles and landing impacts from jumps. The springs measure 139mm in length, specifically designed to work seamlessly with GT-Maxx shock bodies. The natural finish construction uses quality materials engineered to withstand the rigours of repeated compression cycles, shock loads, and environmental exposure that comes with regular RC driving. Spring rate selection is fundamental to suspension tuning in RC vehicles; choosing the correct rate ensures your truck maintains consistent ride height, prevents chassis roll during cornering, maintains predictable handling characteristics, and maximises traction by keeping tyres in contact with the ground. The 1.450 rate sits in the moderately stiff range, suitable for drivers prioritising stability and control whilst maintaining reasonable bump absorption for general purpose driving rather than extreme speed bashing.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between spring rates in Traxxas shock springs? — Spring rate directly affects how your RC truck's suspension responds to terrain. A higher rate number means a stiffer, firmer spring that resists compression more than softer rates. The 1.450 rate is moderately firm, offering improved stability and control compared to softer rates, whilst still providing adequate bump absorption. Softer rates deliver more comfort and compliance over small impacts but offer less control during aggressive driving or jumps. Choosing the right rate depends on your vehicle weight, driving style, terrain, and personal preference for handling characteristics.
- Why would I need to replace my GT-Maxx shock springs? — Springs can lose their progressivity over time due to repeated compression cycles, environmental exposure, and normal wear. If your RC truck's suspension feels less responsive, sags lower than before, or doesn't recover quickly from compressions, it's time to upgrade to fresh springs. Replacing springs is also a key tuning strategy — you might upgrade to stiffer springs if your truck is heavier, if you've added battery weight, or if you want more precise control and stability during fast driving or jumping.
- Are these springs compatible with other Traxxas models? — These springs are specifically engineered for Traxxas GT-Maxx shocks found on the Sledge Belted and WideMaxx monster truck platforms. They will not fit other shock types without modification. Always verify compatibility with your specific vehicle before purchasing, as using incorrect springs can result in poor suspension performance and handling characteristics.
- What is progressive-rate spring design and why is it better? — Progressive-rate springs are custom-wound so that the spring rate (stiffness) increases as the spring compresses. This means the spring starts relatively soft for small bumps and road imperfections, delivering responsive, compliant handling, but becomes progressively stiffer as it compresses further to absorb bigger impacts and prevent bottoming-out. This design provides the best of both worlds: sensitivity for fine control and a compliance for everyday driving combined with protection and stability under hard impacts or landing loads from jumps. It's superior to traditional fixed-rate springs which have the same stiffness throughout their compression range.
- How do I know if 1.450 rate is right for my truck? — The 1.450 rate is a moderately firm option suitable for most drivers seeking balanced suspension performance. If you find your truck wallows excessively or tips easily during cornering, a stiffer rate like 1.450 improves stability. If your truck feels too stiff and harsh over small bumps, you might prefer a softer rate. Consider your vehicle weight (heavier trucks need stiffer springs), your driving environment (rough terrain may need softer rates for compliance, smooth tracks may prefer firmer rates for control), and your driving style (aggressive bashers often prefer firmer springs for stability).
- Is this a genuine Traxxas part? — Yes, this is an official Traxxas component manufactured to exact specifications by Traxxas. Genuine Traxxas parts ensure perfect fitment, proper performance, and warranty support. Always purchase from authorised retailers to guarantee authenticity and avoid counterfeit components that may not fit correctly or perform reliably.
