Overview

The Traxxas Springs, shock (natural finish) (GT-Maxx) (1.210 rate) (2 pcs) TRX8966 are essential suspension components designed specifically for Traxxas GT-Maxx equipped vehicles, including the legendary Sledge 6S and WideMaxx monster trucks. These premium replacement springs are engineered to deliver responsive control and superior handling across a wide range of driving conditions, making them an ideal choice for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand performance and reliability from their RC model cars. Whether you're a seasoned basher looking to fine-tune your suspension setup or a dedicated RC car UK hobbyist seeking genuine Traxxas components, these shock springs represent the authentic choice for maintaining your vehicle's performance characteristics.

What makes these GT-Maxx shock springs stand out is their progressive-rate design and natural finish construction, which provides a perfect balance between handling responsiveness on smaller terrain imperfections and the ability to absorb substantial impacts during more aggressive driving. The 1.210 rate specification delivers a specific stiffness level that works exceptionally well with standard GT-Maxx shock configurations, offering drivers the confidence to tackle varied terrain without compromising control or comfort. As an authorised Traxxas retailer, RC Model Shop supplies only genuine factory-produced springs that meet Traxxas manufacturing standards, ensuring your RC monster truck or truck-based RC vehicle maintains its designed performance envelope.

These springs are sold as a pair, meaning you receive two precision-engineered components ready for installation onto your front or rear suspension. The natural finish provides excellent durability whilst maintaining the classic appearance of performance RC suspension components. For UK-based RC enthusiasts who want to maintain their vehicle's suspension in peak condition or experiment with different spring rates to dial in their perfect setup, the TRX8966 represents the genuine OEM choice that serious RC hobbyists rely upon.

Key Features

  • Progressive-Rate Design — The progressive spring rate means the spring starts relatively soft to absorb small bumps and terrain irregularities smoothly, then becomes progressively stiffer as it compresses further, allowing the suspension to handle larger impacts and harder landings without bottoming out. This dual-action approach delivers responsive control for everyday driving whilst providing the impact protection needed for more aggressive bashing.
  • 1.210 Spring Rate Specification — This specific rate is engineered to work perfectly with GT-Maxx shock systems, providing the ideal balance between ride comfort and control for drivers who use Sledge 6S and WideMaxx platforms. The higher the spring rate number, the firmer and stiffer the spring, meaning 1.210-rate springs offer moderate stiffness suitable for mixed terrain and varied vehicle weight configurations.
  • Natural Finish Construction — The natural finish delivers durability and protection against corrosion while maintaining the clean, professional appearance that RC enthusiasts appreciate. This finish is built to withstand regular use, exposure to dirt and moisture, and the general wear that comes with active RC car use.
  • 139mm Length Specification — These springs are precisely engineered to the 139mm dimension required for GT-Maxx shock absorbers, ensuring perfect fitment and consistent suspension geometry. Using incorrectly sized springs can compromise handling and suspension performance, making OEM-specification components like these essential for maintaining your vehicle's design characteristics.
  • Sold as Matched Pair — You receive two springs, allowing you to replace both front or both rear springs for balanced suspension tuning. Many RC drivers prefer to change springs in pairs to maintain symmetrical handling characteristics across the vehicle's front and rear axles.
  • Genuine Traxxas OEM Component — As an authentic factory-produced Traxxas part, these springs are manufactured to the exact specifications and tolerances that Traxxas engineers designed your vehicle around, guaranteeing compatibility and performance reliability that aftermarket alternatives cannot always provide.
  • Suspension Tuning Flexibility — Traxxas offers GT-Maxx springs in multiple rates, allowing experienced RC drivers to fine-tune suspension stiffness to compensate for different driver weights, varied terrain conditions, or specific driving styles. If these 1.210-rate springs feel too soft or too stiff for your setup, alternative rates are available to dial in your perfect suspension balance.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GT-Maxx shock springs represent precision engineering designed specifically for the demanding requirements of high-performance RC monster trucks and related vehicles. At 139mm in length, these springs are engineered to work seamlessly within the GT-Maxx shock system architecture, which features advanced damping technology and precision-machined components designed to handle the extreme forces generated by fast-paced RC driving. The 1.210 spring rate sits in the moderate-to-stiff range, making these springs ideal for drivers who want responsive handling without excessive stiffness that might reduce traction on loose or uneven surfaces. The progressive-rate design is custom-wound using quality steel materials that resist fatigue and maintain consistent performance over extended use periods, critical for RC enthusiasts who log significant track time or regularly bash their vehicles across challenging terrain. The natural finish provides corrosion protection against exposure to moisture, dirt, grass, and the various environmental elements encountered during outdoor RC activities throughout the UK. When properly installed into a GT-Maxx shock system on compatible vehicles such as the Traxxas Sledge Belted 1/8 scale 4WD brushless electric monster truck or the WideMaxx platform, these springs deliver the suspension compliance needed for smooth, controlled driving whilst maintaining the stiffness necessary to keep the chassis stable during aggressive manoeuvres, high-speed corners, and substantial landings. The engineering approach balances responsiveness for small-bump absorption with progressive stiffening to prevent bottoming-out during hard impacts, a critical consideration for serious RC drivers who demand both comfort and durability from their suspension components.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What vehicles are these Traxxas shock springs compatible with? — The TRX8966 springs are specifically engineered for GT-Maxx shock systems and work on multiple Traxxas platforms including the Sledge Belted 1/8 scale 4WD brushless electric monster truck (available in blue, orange, green, and red variants) and the WideMaxx monster truck range (available in red, rock n roll, and green options). Always verify your vehicle uses GT-Maxx shocks before purchasing, as other Traxxas shock systems require different spring specifications.
  • What does the 1.210 spring rate mean for my RC car's handling? — Spring rate indicates stiffness; higher numbers mean stiffer, firmer springs. The 1.210 rate provides moderate stiffness that works well for mixed terrain driving, delivering responsive handling without making the suspension so stiff that it loses traction or rides harshly over small obstacles. If your vehicle feels like it's bottoming out too easily, you'd want a higher rate; if it feels too harsh or loses grip, a lower rate would help.
  • Should I replace both front and rear springs, or just one pair? — For best balanced handling, replace springs in matched pairs on the same axle (both fronts or both rears). If you're tuning suspension, you might run different rates front and rear, but always replace in pairs on the same axle to maintain symmetrical suspension geometry and predictable handling characteristics.
  • What is the difference between progressive-rate springs and standard springs? — Progressive-rate springs like these start softer to absorb small bumps smoothly, then get progressively stiffer as they compress, handling larger impacts more effectively. Standard springs maintain consistent stiffness throughout their compression range. Progressive design delivers better all-around performance for varied terrain and diverse driving conditions typical of recreational RC car enthusiasts in the UK.
  • Are these genuine Traxxas springs or aftermarket replacements? — These are genuine OEM Traxxas factory-produced components, manufactured to exact Traxxas specifications and engineering standards. Genuine parts guarantee compatibility, performance reliability, and durability that aftermarket alternatives cannot always provide, making them the choice of serious RC enthusiasts who want assurance their vehicles perform as designed.
  • How often should I replace my shock springs? — Springs gradually lose their progressive characteristics and stiffness over extended use due to metal fatigue. If your vehicle's handling feels less responsive, rides too harshly, or bottoms out more easily than before, it's time to replace your springs. Regular inspection during maintenance sessions helps identify worn springs before they compromise handling.
