Overview
The Traxxas Spring, shock, Front (Silver) (GTR) (progressive, 0.833 rate, White stripe) (2 pcs) TRX8444X represents a premium suspension upgrade for demanding RC enthusiasts across the UK who want to maximise the performance of their Traxxas UDR Unlimited Desert Racer. These machined-aluminium, hard-anodised front shock springs are engineered to deliver exceptional ride quality and consistent damping characteristics that transform your RC vehicle's handling dynamics. Whether you're a competitive racer, a weekend basher, or a dedicated hobbyist pushing your brushless RC truck to its limits, these GTR shocks offer the absolute lowest possible friction and most consistent damping performance available for short-course truck racing in the UK RC community.
Designed specifically for the Traxxas UDR platform, these silver-finished progressive-rate springs feature a 0.833 spring rate with distinctive white stripe identification, allowing you to easily identify and track your suspension setup. The GTR shock system represents the pinnacle of Traxxas suspension engineering, combining PTFE-coated bores with Titanium Nitride (TiN) coated shock shafts to create a suspension package that delivers superior performance on any terrain. These springs work in harmony with the GTR shock body to provide the smooth, predictable suspension action that competitive drivers demand when running high-powered 4WD RC vehicles.
This two-piece suspension upgrade is ideal for RC enthusiasts looking to fine-tune their setup without replacing the entire shock assembly. By upgrading to these premium aluminium front springs, you gain extended seal life, improved consistency, and the kind of precision tuning capability that separates competitive rigs from casual weekend runners. The progressive spring rate ensures that your suspension responds intelligently to track conditions, providing a compliant ride over rough terrain whilst maintaining adequate support under aggressive cornering and acceleration.
Key Features
- Machined-Aluminium Construction — These springs are crafted from precision-machined aluminium and hard-anodised to create an exceptionally durable component that resists corrosion and wear, ensuring long-lasting performance even in demanding UK weather conditions and intensive track use.
- PTFE-Coated Bores — The shock bodies feature PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coated internal bores that minimise friction and ensure the smoothest possible damping action, critical for maintaining consistent suspension response lap after lap.
- Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coated Shock Shafts — The distinctive gold-coloured TiN coating on the shock shafts reduces friction further and provides exceptional durability against wear, allowing your suspension to maintain its performance characteristics even after extensive use.
- Progressive Spring Rate (0.833) — The carefully engineered progressive rate means the spring becomes progressively stiffer as it compresses, providing a compliant initial response whilst ensuring adequate support under load, perfect for a variety of track conditions.
- Two-Piece Set — This package includes a matched pair of front springs, allowing you to maintain balanced suspension geometry across your RC truck's front axle.
- White Stripe Identification — Easy-to-identify white stripe markings help you quickly verify spring specifications and maintain organised suspension tuning records as you develop your perfect setup.
- Extended Seal Life — The superior materials and precision engineering deliver longer-lasting seals compared to stock plastic alternatives, reducing maintenance requirements and saving money over time.
- OEM Traxxas Engineering — As genuine Traxxas components, these springs are engineered and tested to exact specifications, guaranteeing compatibility and reliable performance with your UDR platform.
Technical Performance
These GTR front shock springs represent the cutting edge of RC suspension technology, featuring hard-anodised aluminium construction paired with PTFE-coated bores and Titanium Nitride coated shafts to create a suspension system with virtually eliminated friction and maximum damping consistency. The 0.833 progressive spring rate provides an intelligent balance between initial compliance and load-carrying capacity, ensuring your RC short-course truck responds appropriately to varied terrain from smooth tarmac to rough off-road surfaces. The machined-aluminium design delivers exceptional build quality whilst remaining lightweight, critical for maintaining the agility and responsiveness that competitive RC racers expect. Unlike stock plastic GTR shocks, these premium aluminium versions offer smoother damping feel and extended seal life, meaning you'll enjoy consistent suspension performance through longer practice sessions, qualifying runs, and competitive races. The engineering philosophy behind these springs reflects Traxxas's commitment to providing properly tuned suspension components that work harmoniously with brushless power systems, allowing your 4WD RC truck to transfer maximum power to the ground whilst maintaining predictable handling characteristics. Whether you're running your UDR on high-grip carpeted tracks or loose outdoor surfaces, these springs deliver the performance adjustability that transforms good setups into championship-winning configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What vehicles are these Traxxas GTR front shock springs compatible with? — These springs are specifically designed for the Traxxas UDR Unlimited Desert Racer Pro-Scale 4WD short-course truck, compatible with both the TRX85086-4-RGD1 Rigid Industries edition and TRX85086-4-FOX1 Fox Racing edition models.
- What is the difference between these aluminium GTR shocks and the stock plastic shocks? — The stock plastic GTR shocks on the standard UDR work very well, but these premium aluminium versions offer noticeably smoother damping feel thanks to PTFE-coated bores and Titanium Nitride coated shafts that minimise friction. More importantly, the aluminium construction and precision engineering deliver longer seal life and greater consistency over extended use, meaning your suspension maintains its performance characteristics through many more use cycles.
- What does the progressive 0.833 spring rate mean? — The progressive rate means that the spring becomes progressively stiffer as you compress it, starting soft for initial compliance over bumps but providing increasing support as the shock is driven deeper into its travel. The 0.833 specification indicates the specific stiffness rating; this rate has been carefully engineered by Traxxas for optimal performance with the UDR platform.
- Are these front springs difficult to install? — Spring installation is straightforward but requires basic tools. You'll need to compress the spring carefully using a spring compressor tool, remove the old springs, and install these new ones onto your GTR shock bodies. Traxxas recommends using proper tools like the 8712 Speed Bit Essentials Set to ensure safe and accurate installation.
- Will upgrading to these aluminium springs improve my lap times? — Absolutely. By providing more consistent damping and longer seal life, you'll experience fewer performance variations between laps, allowing you to push harder with confidence. The smoother suspension action also helps you maintain better traction and steering response through corners, which translates directly to faster, more predictable driving.
- What maintenance do these springs require? — These springs require minimal maintenance beyond general RC care. The hard-anodised aluminium resists corrosion in UK weather, and the PTFE-coated bores and TiN-coated shafts are designed for long service life. Periodically check that springs are securely mounted and that shock seals remain intact.
- Can I use just one pair of these springs or do I need to upgrade all four shocks? — You can upgrade just the front shocks as these are sold, but for optimal suspension balance and consistency, many competitive drivers eventually upgrade all four corners. Starting with the fronts is a common approach that delivers immediate handling improvements.
- Are these springs suitable for beginners? — Whilst these are premium components, they're not specifically restricted to advanced racers. However, they represent a performance upgrade most beneficial to drivers who can appreciate consistent, refined suspension characteristics. Beginners starting with a stock UDR will get excellent results from the standard shocks before investing in this upgrade.
