Overview
The Traxxas Springs, shock, Long (natural finish) (GTS) (0.62 rate, Blue stripe) (for use with TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit) TRX8157 are precision-engineered suspension components designed specifically for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand responsive, tuned performance from their TRX-4 crawler platforms. These long shock springs represent the ideal upgrade path for anyone running the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit, providing the exact suspension geometry and spring rate compatibility your vehicle needs to handle varied terrain with confidence and control. Whether you're a weekend basher exploring challenging off-road terrain, a competition-level RC crawler driver pushing the limits of articulation and grip, or an RC car enthusiast looking to dial in your suspension setup, these genuine Traxxas components deliver the quality and reliability you expect from the world's leading RC manufacturer.
As an authorised Traxxas dealer, RC Model Shop stocks only genuine Traxxas parts, ensuring you receive authentic components with full manufacturer backing. The GTS shock spring design represents decades of Traxxas engineering expertise, and these long-format springs are specifically calibrated to work in harmony with the extended suspension geometry of the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit. This compatibility is crucial—using the correct spring rate ensures your suspension operates within its optimal performance envelope, delivering predictable handling, improved traction, and reduced body roll across all driving conditions.
Spring rate selection is one of the most important tuning decisions you'll make with any RC crawler or truck. The 0.62 rate on these GTS springs sits in a moderate range, making them versatile for a wide variety of driving styles and vehicle configurations. Whether your TRX-4 is lighter or heavier, running different tyres, or operating on soft versus hard terrain, having the right spring rate means the difference between a vehicle that feels sluggish and poorly controlled versus one that responds precisely to every input and maintains consistent performance throughout your session.
Key Features
- GTS Long Format Design — These springs are purpose-built in the longer GTS format, ensuring perfect fitment with the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit and maintaining the correct suspension geometry for optimal articulation and ground clearance across obstacles and challenging terrain.
- 0.62 Spring Rate — The moderate 0.62 rate provides a balanced approach to suspension tuning, offering responsive control over small bumps and undulations whilst maintaining the structural support needed to absorb harder impacts during aggressive driving or high-speed passes through rocky sections.
- Natural Finish Construction — The natural finish provides excellent durability and corrosion resistance, with the blue stripe colour-coding system allowing you to instantly identify the spring rate at a glance, making it easier to track your suspension setup and experiment with different rates during tuning sessions.
- Blue Stripe Identification — Traxxas uses industry-standard colour-coding on shock springs, with the blue stripe clearly marking this as a 0.62 rate component, eliminating confusion when storing multiple spring rates or sharing setups with other RC enthusiasts at the track or club.
- Genuine Traxxas Manufacturing — Every Traxxas spring is precision wound and stress-tested to ensure consistent performance and reliability, eliminating the inconsistencies sometimes found in aftermarket or generic alternatives and guaranteeing performance you can depend on race after race.
- Perfect for TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit Compatibility — These springs are engineered specifically to work with the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit geometry, ensuring your suspension operates as Traxxas engineers intended, with proper ride height, suspension travel, and spring preload characteristics.
- Progressive Rate Characteristics — The springs feature progressive-rate winding that provides responsive, compliant handling over small obstacles whilst progressively stiffening under load to absorb bigger impacts, delivering a smooth ride quality combined with solid support.
- Essential Suspension Tuning Component — Spring rate is one of the most important and cost-effective tuning modifications available to RC crawler and truck drivers, allowing you to adapt your vehicle's suspension to different tracks, vehicle weights, or driving styles without expensive overhauls.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas GTS shock springs represent cutting-edge suspension technology refined through years of competitive RC racing and off-road crawler development. These long-format springs are specifically engineered for the extended suspension travel and geometry of the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit, delivering precisely calibrated spring rates that ensure your vehicle's suspension operates within its optimal performance window. The 0.62 rate sits in the moderate range of Traxxas's comprehensive spring rate selection, making it suitable for a wide variety of driving conditions, vehicle configurations, and driver preferences. The natural finish provides excellent resistance to corrosion and wear, maintaining consistent spring characteristics throughout the lifespan of the component, whilst the blue stripe colour-coding system ensures instant visual identification and eliminates confusion during suspension setup and tuning. These springs are pressure-tested during manufacturing to ensure consistency between units, guaranteeing that when you purchase a set, you receive components that perform identically and predictably on every run. The progressive-rate winding profile means the springs start soft to absorb small bumps smoothly, then progressively stiffen under increased load to handle big hits and rough terrain without bottoming out or losing control. This engineering approach delivers superior ride quality compared to linear-rate alternatives, resulting in faster lap times, smoother handling feel, and reduced fatigue on your vehicle's chassis and components during extended driving sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the 0.62 spring rate mean and how do I know if it's right for my TRX-4? — Spring rate refers to how many kilograms of force are required to compress the spring by one millimetre. The 0.62 rate is a moderate, versatile setting suitable for most driving styles and terrain conditions. If your vehicle feels too stiff (harsh ride, poor traction), you might try a softer rate like 0.52. If it feels too soft (excessive body roll, bottoming out), a stiffer rate like 0.73 would help. Start with 0.62 and adjust based on your driving conditions and preferences.
- Are these springs compatible with the standard TRX-4 without the Long Arm Lift Kit? — These springs are specifically designed for the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit geometry and should not be used with the standard TRX-4, as they would result in incorrect ride height, suspension travel, and overall handling characteristics. Always use springs matched to your specific kit configuration.
- How often should I replace my shock springs? — Shock springs are very durable components and rarely need replacement unless they become damaged, lose their temper (stop returning to original shape), or you wish to change your suspension tuning. Normal usage rarely wears out springs; they typically need replacement only if physically damaged or when experimenting with different rates during tuning.
- What's the difference between these GTS springs and other Traxxas spring options? — GTS refers to the shock body style these springs fit into (the long-format GTS shocks used on the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit). Traxxas offers springs in GTR format for other shocks. The spring rate number (0.62 in this case) indicates stiffness. The key is matching the correct spring format to your shock type and the correct rate to your driving style.
- Can I mix different spring rates on my TRX-4? — You can run different rates front and rear to fine-tune your vehicle's handling balance, but it's generally recommended to start with matching rates and only experiment with mixed setups once you understand how spring rates affect your vehicle's behaviour. Traxxas offers a comprehensive range of rates specifically to facilitate this kind of tuning.
- How do I know which spring rate to choose for UK terrain? — UK terrain varies widely, from rocky Peak District sections to softer clay-based tracks and sandy areas. The 0.62 rate provides a good general-purpose starting point for mixed conditions. If you primarily drive on soft terrain, softer rates work better; for hard, rocky terrain, stiffer rates provide better support. Visit your local RC club and ask experienced drivers what rates they recommend for your specific track.
