Overview

The Traxxas Medium GTX Shock Body (TRX7866X) is a precision-engineered suspension component designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand ultra-smooth damping performance and long-lasting durability. This is an essential upgrade or replacement part for owners of Traxxas XRT models, including the XRT VXL-8S and XRT Ultimate variants. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning your RC car setup or a weekend basher looking to maintain peak performance, this hard-anodised shock body delivers the quality and reliability that Traxxas is renowned for across the UK RC hobby community.

Built to exacting specifications, the Medium GTX shock body represents the pinnacle of Traxxas suspension technology. The combination of hard-anodised aluminium and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coating creates a friction-resistant surface that ensures consistent, predictable damping throughout extended running sessions. This is particularly valuable for RC car UK owners who are pushing their vehicles to the limit on various terrain types, from smooth tarmac to rough off-road surfaces. The single-piece design makes installation straightforward, allowing you to quickly dial in your suspension geometry and get back to the action.

If you're serious about your RC hobby and want to maintain or enhance the performance of your XRT, this shock body is an indispensable addition to your spares collection. Traxxas parts are recognised globally as the benchmark for quality, and this component exemplifies why the brand commands such respect among RC enthusiasts worldwide.

Key Features

  • Hard-Anodised Aluminium Construction — The shock body is manufactured from premium hard-anodised aluminium, which provides superior strength and corrosion resistance compared to standard aluminium, ensuring your suspension components withstand the rigours of repeated use and exposure to moisture without degrading.
  • PTFE-Coated Surface — The PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coating reduces friction between the shock shaft and the body, delivering ultra-smooth damping action that remains consistent lap after lap, which is critical for achieving predictable handling and optimal lap times in competitive racing scenarios.
  • Medium-Length Design — Sized specifically as a medium-length GTX shock body, this component fits the suspension geometry of XRT models perfectly, allowing you to maintain the correct ride height and suspension travel characteristics that Traxxas engineers designed into these vehicles.
  • Ultra-Smooth Damping Performance — The combination of precision manufacturing and the PTFE coating ensures that the shock absorbs impacts and damps suspension movement with minimal friction, translating to better traction, more predictable handling, and improved overall performance whether you're racing or bashing.
  • Single Piece per Package — Each purchase includes one shock body, making it ideal for replacing a damaged component or upgrading a single corner of your RC vehicle's suspension setup without having to buy unnecessary extras.
  • Genuine Traxxas Component — This is an official Traxxas part (TRX7866X), guaranteeing authentic quality, precise fitment, and compatibility with your XRT model; no concerns about counterfeit parts or fitment issues.

Technical Performance

The GTX shock body represents Traxxas's commitment to precision engineering in the RC car UK market. Manufactured from hard-anodised aluminium with a PTFE coating, this component has been specifically engineered to deliver the ultra-smooth damping performance that discerning RC enthusiasts demand. The hard-anodising process increases surface hardness and corrosion resistance, protecting the shock body from wear and environmental damage even during intensive use. The PTFE coating is the crucial element that sets this apart from standard shock bodies; PTFE is a self-lubricating material that dramatically reduces friction between the shock shaft and the internal bore, allowing the damping fluid to do its job more effectively and consistently. This means smoother bump absorption, more predictable handling characteristics, and improved traction through corners and over obstacles. The medium-length design is calibrated specifically for XRT models, ensuring proper suspension geometry, correct ride height, and optimal suspension travel. Whether you're running your brushless RC on the track or taking it off-road, this shock body will provide reliable, consistent performance session after session.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a GTX shock body and why would I need one? — A GTX shock body is the outer tube that houses the damping mechanism in your suspension system. You would need to replace it if the current one is damaged, bent, or leaking, or if you want to upgrade to a higher-performance component with superior damping characteristics. The PTFE coating on this Traxxas GTX body ensures smooth, consistent damping that improves handling and performance.
  • Is this shock body suitable for both racing and bashing? — Yes, the Medium GTX shock body is equally suited to competitive racing and weekend bashing. The hard-anodised, PTFE-coated design delivers consistent performance across both disciplines, though racers will particularly appreciate the ultra-smooth, predictable damping that helps achieve optimal lap times.
  • Will this shock body fit my XRT? — This shock body is specifically designed for Traxxas XRT models, including the XRT VXL-8S (available in Blue, Orange, Green, and Black) and the XRT Ultimate (available in Green X and Blue X). Check your model number to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
  • What makes hard-anodised aluminium better than standard aluminium? — Hard-anodising is an electrochemical process that thickens and hardens the aluminium's surface layer, making it significantly more resistant to corrosion, wear, and surface damage. This extends the lifespan of your shock body and ensures it maintains its performance characteristics for longer, particularly important for RC enthusiasts in the UK where moisture and variable weather are common.
  • What is PTFE coating and what does it do? — PTFE is a synthetic fluoropolymer (the same material used in non-stick cookware) that creates a low-friction surface. When applied to shock bodies, it reduces the resistance between the shock shaft and the bore, allowing damping fluid to work more efficiently and providing smoother, more consistent suspension response throughout your runs.
  • Can I use this shock body to upgrade my current suspension setup? — Yes, replacing your existing shock bodies with these GTX bodies will improve your suspension performance. The hard-anodised, PTFE-coated design delivers superior damping consistency compared to standard components, which translates to better handling, improved traction, and more predictable vehicle behaviour.
  • How do I install this shock body? — Installation involves removing your existing shock body and installing this one in its place. Consult your XRT manual for detailed disassembly and reassembly instructions. No special tools are required beyond those typically used for RC vehicle maintenance.
