Overview

The Traxxas Medium Shock Springs (Natural Finish) (GTX) 3.744 Rate (TRX7849) are essential suspension tuning components designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand precision performance from their vehicles. These genuine Traxxas replacement springs are engineered to fine-tune your XRT's suspension characteristics, allowing you to optimise handling for different track conditions, driving styles, and vehicle configurations. Whether you're running a lighter or heavier setup, these medium-length GTX shock springs give you the control you need to dial in the perfect balance between grip and stability on any UK RC track or bash spot.

For anyone serious about RC car UK performance, suspension tuning is where champions are made. The spring rate directly affects how your vehicle responds to bumps, corners and acceleration—get it right, and you'll unlock faster lap times and more predictable handling. These Traxxas springs are the trusted choice for XRT owners who refuse to compromise on quality or performance. The 3.744 spring rate sits in the medium range, making it an excellent starting point for general-purpose driving across varied terrain, from tarmac to loose surfaces.

Available as a pair (two springs), these springs are ready to bolt straight into your XRT's GTX shock absorbers. The natural finish means you get pure functionality without any cosmetic coating, keeping costs down while maintaining Traxxas's legendary build quality. If you're upgrading your suspension, experimenting with different setups, or simply need a replacement pair due to wear, the TRX7849 springs deliver dependable performance backed by decades of Traxxas engineering expertise.

Key Features

  • Medium Spring Rate (3.744) — The 3.744 spring rate provides a balanced compromise between softness and firmness, making these springs ideal for general-purpose RC driving across mixed terrain and track types. A higher spring rate number indicates a firmer spring, so this mid-range rating suits most driving conditions and vehicle weights without excessive stiffness.
  • GTX Shock Compatibility — These springs are specifically engineered to work with GTX shock absorbers fitted to Traxxas XRT models, ensuring perfect fitment and reliable performance without modification or adaptation.
  • Natural Finish Construction — The natural finish means these springs are built from quality materials without added coatings, providing excellent value without compromising on durability or performance characteristics.
  • Medium Length Design — The medium-length specification is optimised for XRT suspension geometry, delivering consistent spring action throughout the suspension stroke for predictable handling and feedback.
  • Suspension Tuning Flexibility — By choosing different spring rates, you can compensate for heavier or lighter vehicle configurations, allowing you to maintain optimal suspension performance as you modify or adjust your RC car setup.
  • Pair Quantity — You receive two springs in this package, providing a complete replacement set for both shock absorbers on your vehicle, eliminating the need to purchase multiple packs.
  • Genuine Traxxas Component — As an official Traxxas replacement part, these springs are manufactured to the same exacting standards as the original equipment, guaranteeing compatibility and reliability.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Medium Shock Springs represent precision engineering at its finest, designed and manufactured by one of the world's leading RC vehicle producers. These springs play a critical role in suspension dynamics, directly influencing how your XRT responds to terrain, acceleration forces and braking loads. The 3.744 spring rate is measured in pounds per inch (lb/in), indicating how much force is required to compress the spring by one inch—a moderate rate that suits general-purpose bashers and competitive drivers alike. Unlike softer springs that allow excessive body roll and unpredictable handling, or stiffer springs that can cause loss of traction on rough surfaces, the medium rate offers a sweet spot for most driving scenarios encountered across UK RC tracks and off-road areas. The natural finish construction utilises quality spring steel that maintains its characteristics through thousands of compression cycles, resisting fatigue and permanent deformation that can occur with inferior materials. Traxxas engineers have optimised the medium length to work seamlessly with XRT shock geometry, ensuring the springs compress and extend through the full suspension travel without binding, bottoming out prematurely, or losing contact with shock shafts. Whether you're upgrading from worn factory springs, experimenting with suspension tuning to improve lap times, or building a second shock set for different track conditions, these springs deliver the consistent, predictable performance that serious RC competitors demand from their equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 3.744 spring rate mean, and is it the right choice for my driving style? — The spring rate indicates how much force is needed to compress the spring by one inch. A 3.744 rate is considered medium stiffness, making it an excellent all-around choice for general recreational driving, bashing, and entry-level competitive use. If you find your vehicle bouncing excessively or wallowing through corners, a stiffer spring (higher rate number) will firm up the suspension. Conversely, if your vehicle feels harsh and loses traction over bumps, a softer spring (lower rate number) will improve grip and comfort.
  • Are these springs easy to install myself? — Yes, replacing shock springs is one of the most straightforward suspension tuning tasks in RC cars. You simply need to compress each spring slightly to remove it from the shock shaft, then slide the new spring into place. No special tools are required beyond basic hex wrenches to remove the shock from your vehicle. Most drivers can complete a spring swap in under 10 minutes.
  • What is the difference between medium, soft, and stiff springs? — Spring rates work on a simple principle: softer springs (lower numbers) compress more easily, providing a plusher ride and better traction over rough terrain but allowing more body roll in corners. Stiffer springs (higher numbers) resist compression, providing firmer handling and better cornering stability but can feel harsher and reduce traction on bumpy surfaces. Medium-rate springs like these TRX7849 units offer a balanced compromise suitable for mixed driving conditions.
  • Can I use these springs on other Traxxas models? — These springs are specifically engineered for XRT models with GTX shock absorbers. Whilst other Traxxas vehicles may use similar shock designs, it's always best to verify compatibility by checking your vehicle's manual or consulting with Traxxas support before purchasing. Using incompatible springs can result in poor suspension performance or potential damage.
  • How often should I replace my shock springs? — Under normal recreational use, quality Traxxas springs should last for hundreds of driving hours. However, if you notice that your suspension feels less responsive, that your vehicle is sitting lower than normal, or that handling has deteriorated despite correct maintenance, it may be time to consider replacement springs as part of a suspension refresh.
