Overview

The Traxxas Medium Shock Springs (Natural Finish) (GTX) 5.543 Rate Yellow Stripe (TRX7846) are precision-engineered suspension components designed specifically for tuning and optimising the performance of your Traxxas XRT RC truck. Whether you're an experienced RC enthusiast looking to fine-tune your vehicle's handling characteristics or a dedicated basher seeking to adapt your setup for different driving conditions, these replacement shock springs offer the flexibility and reliability that Traxxas is renowned for in the RC car UK community. As a leading manufacturer of high-performance RC vehicles, Traxxas continues to provide aftermarket parts that allow owners to customise their machines to suit their exact preferences and driving style.

Medium-length GTX shock springs represent a critical component of your RC truck's suspension system, directly influencing how the vehicle responds to terrain, maintains traction, and handles cornering. The 5.543 spring rate, indicated by the distinctive yellow stripe, positions these springs in the medium-firmness category, making them ideal for drivers who want a balanced approach between responsive handling and ride comfort. Unlike lighter spring rates that provide a softer, more absorbent ride, or heavier rates that deliver maximum firmness for high-speed competitive driving, the 5.543 rate strikes an excellent middle ground for general-purpose off-road RC use.

This product is supplied as a pair, meaning you receive two individual shock springs ready for installation on your XRT platform. The natural finish coating provides excellent durability whilst maintaining the professional appearance of your suspension setup, and the GTX designation confirms these springs are manufactured to Traxxas's exacting quality standards. For RC enthusiasts in the UK seeking genuine OEM parts from an authorised retailer, the TRX7846 represents an authentic investment in maintaining or upgrading your Traxxas RC truck's performance.

Key Features

  • 5.543 Spring Rate with Yellow Stripe Identification — The specific spring rate number indicates how firm the spring is, with higher numbers representing stiffer springs; the 5.543 rate provides medium firmness ideal for balanced suspension tuning, whilst the bright yellow stripe makes quick visual identification simple when managing multiple spring options in your RC workshop.
  • GTX Shock Spring Technology — GTX springs are engineered using Traxxas's proprietary design and material specifications, ensuring consistent performance, reliability, and longevity compared to generic aftermarket alternatives; these springs maintain their characteristics through extended use and various terrain conditions.
  • Natural Finish Construction — The natural finish provides excellent corrosion resistance and durability in outdoor RC environments, maintaining the spring's performance characteristics whilst resisting wear from exposure to moisture, mud, and general bashig conditions typical of UK RC car use.
  • Pair Quantity — These springs are supplied as a matched pair, providing both the front and rear springs needed for a complete suspension refresh or allows you to upgrade both springs simultaneously to maintain balanced handling characteristics across your XRT's suspension geometry.
  • Medium-Length Design — The medium-length shock spring format is specifically engineered for the XRT suspension architecture, ensuring perfect compatibility with the shock absorber bodies and mounting points without requiring any modification or adaptation.
  • Performance Tuning Capability — By selecting the 5.543 rate springs, drivers can compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations, effectively tuning suspension behaviour to match their body shell choice, battery weight, or ballast adjustments; this tuning flexibility is essential for competitive drivers and serious enthusiasts.
  • Suspension Setup Optimisation — These springs allow you to fine-tune your XRT's suspension performance for specific driving conditions, whether you're tackling muddy terrain, rocky crawling courses, or high-speed bashig on mixed surfaces; the ability to swap spring rates gives you multiple setups from a single chassis platform.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GTX medium shock springs represent a fundamental component of your RC truck's suspension system, directly influencing how effectively the vehicle absorbs impacts, maintains ground contact, and responds to driver inputs. At 5.543 spring rate, these springs provide a measured balance between compliance and support, absorbing impacts from rough terrain whilst maintaining enough firmness to prevent excessive suspension travel and body roll during aggressive cornering. The spring rate designation works on a simple principle: higher numbers mean stiffer springs offering less travel but more support, whilst lower numbers provide softer, more compliant suspension for smoother riding. The 5.543 rate positions these springs perfectly for drivers who want versatility across multiple driving conditions without committing to the extreme stiffness required for competition racing or the excessive softness that creates unpredictable handling on technical terrain. Manufactured in natural finish, the springs resist corrosion and maintain their dimensional accuracy through countless compression and extension cycles, ensuring consistent performance from your first outing through to months of regular use. The GTX designation confirms these springs meet Traxxas's rigorous quality control standards, with precise manufacturing tolerances that ensure matching characteristics across the pair, so both front and rear suspension components respond identically to terrain inputs. For serious RC car enthusiasts and weekend bashers alike, these springs are engineered to deliver the kind of reliability and performance refinement that separates genuine OEM Traxxas parts from generic aftermarket alternatives, particularly important in the UK RC market where driving conditions vary dramatically between summer and winter, wet and dry terrain.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 5.543 spring rate mean and how does it affect my RC truck's performance? — The spring rate number indicates the stiffness of the spring; specifically, 5.543 means the spring requires 5.543 units of force per unit of compression. This medium rate provides balanced performance suitable for general-purpose off-road driving, offering a compromise between the compliant ride of softer springs and the responsive handling of stiffer options. A stiffer spring (higher number) reduces suspension travel and provides more support during aggressive driving, whilst a softer spring (lower number) absorbs impacts more effectively but allows greater suspension movement.
  • Why would I need to replace my shock springs? — Shock springs wear over time through constant compression and extension cycles during driving, gradually losing their ability to return to their original length, which causes the suspension to sit lower and reduces ground clearance and handling predictability. Additionally, you may choose to upgrade to different spring rates to tune your suspension for specific conditions, compensate for changes in vehicle weight (such as upgrading your battery or body shell), or optimise handling for particular terrain types. Traxxas offers springs in multiple rates specifically to allow drivers to customise their suspension setup.
  • How do I know if the TRX7846 springs are compatible with my Traxxas RC truck? — These medium-length GTX shock springs are specifically engineered for the Traxxas XRT family of vehicles, including the XRT VXL-8S models in all colour variants (Green, Black, Blue, Orange) and the XRT Ultimate models (Blue X and Green X). If you own any of these XRT variants, these springs will be perfectly compatible with your existing shock absorbers and mounting points without modification. If you own a different Traxxas model, such as an E-Revo, Slash, Rustler, or other platform, you would need different spring specifications.
  • What is the difference between GTX springs and standard Traxxas shock springs? — GTX springs represent Traxxas's premium shock spring line, engineered with enhanced material specifications and manufacturing tolerances to provide superior consistency, durability, and performance compared to basic alternatives. The GTX designation indicates these springs meet stricter quality control standards, maintain their rate characteristics through extended use, and deliver more predictable handling characteristics across varying terrain and driving conditions. For serious enthusiasts and competitive drivers, GTX springs offer the refinement and reliability necessary for consistent performance.
  • Can I mix different spring rates on my RC truck? — Whilst it is technically possible to run different rates front and rear, this is generally not recommended as it creates asymmetric suspension geometry that can produce unpredictable handling characteristics, uneven weight distribution, and reduced cornering stability. Traxxas designs vehicles with matched spring rates front and rear to ensure balanced handling. If you want to experiment with different suspension tuning, it's best to change the rate across both front and rear springs simultaneously to maintain consistent performance.
  • How often should I replace my shock springs? — Shock springs degrade gradually through use, so there's no fixed replacement schedule. However, if you notice your RC truck sitting lower than it used to, or if the suspension feels less responsive and less capable of maintaining ground clearance over obstacles, it's a good time to replace the springs. Additionally, if you're changing your driving style, vehicle weight, or the terrain you're tackling, upgrading to different spring rates can significantly improve performance. Many serious RC enthusiasts maintain multiple spring sets in their workshop for different conditions.
  • Is this a genuine Traxxas product? — Yes, the TRX7846 is an official Traxxas OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part, manufactured to Traxxas specifications and bearing the authentic Traxxas branding and part numbering. When you purchase from an authorised Traxxas retailer like RC Model Shop, you receive genuine parts backed by Traxxas's quality guarantee, which is important for ensuring compatibility and performance. Counterfeit parts exist in the RC market, so purchasing from authorised dealers protects your investment.
