Overview
The Traxxas Spring, shock (GTR) (2.77 rate, Pink) (1 pair) TRX7244 is an essential suspension tuning component designed for 1/16 scale GTR models. Whether you're a dedicated RC enthusiast looking to fine-tune your vehicle's handling characteristics or a newer hobbyist exploring the world of RC car customisation, these genuine Traxxas shock springs offer the quality and precision engineering you need to optimise your RC car's performance on the track or trail. As an authorised Traxxas retailer serving RC enthusiasts across the UK, we understand that suspension setup can make the difference between a sluggish, unpredictable handling RC buggy and one that responds precisely to your inputs.
These GTR shock springs are engineered using high-quality spring steel and finished with a distinctive red powder-coated coating that resists corrosion and wear. The 2.77 rate pink stripe designation tells you exactly what you're getting: a medium-stiffness spring rated at 2.77, making it an excellent choice for balancing ride comfort with responsive handling. Suspension tuning is one of the most accessible and rewarding aspects of RC car customisation, allowing you to adapt your vehicle to different track conditions, weight configurations, and driving styles without requiring advanced mechanical knowledge. Available as a pair—which is exactly what you need to replace both shock springs on your 1/16 scale GTR—this product represents genuine OEM (original equipment manufacturer) quality that Traxxas is renowned for across the RC community.
If you're running a heavier RC car setup, experimenting with different weight distributions, or simply looking to refresh worn suspension components on your existing 1/16 scale RC model, these shock springs are the perfect solution. The ability to swap springs to different rates gives you access to Traxxas's full range of suspension tuning options, each clearly colour-coded for easy identification. This is exactly the kind of spare part that every serious RC car enthusiast should keep in their workshop alongside their other maintenance supplies and upgrades.
Key Features
- High-Quality Spring Steel Construction — These shock springs are manufactured from premium spring steel, which provides consistent performance over extended use and maintains its shape even after repeated compression and extension cycles. Superior materials mean your suspension will respond predictably lap after lap, giving you the confidence to push your RC car to its limits.
- Durable Red Powder-Coated Finish — The distinctive red powder-coating protects the spring steel from corrosion caused by moisture, dirt, and the rigours of outdoor RC racing. This protective layer ensures your springs maintain their appearance and structural integrity, whether you're bashing your RC vehicle in wet conditions or running it competitively.
- 2.77 Spring Rate with Pink Stripe Identification — The 2.77 rate specification indicates a medium-stiffness spring that balances responsive handling with adequate ground contact. The pink stripe colour-coding makes identification quick and easy, so you'll never install the wrong rate springs by mistake. This mid-range stiffness is ideal for general-purpose driving and works well across various track conditions.
- Sold as a Matched Pair — You receive two springs in this package, providing everything needed to replace both shock absorber springs on your 1/16 scale GTR. Having a matched pair ensures even suspension geometry and balanced handling across both sides of your RC car, which is critical for consistent performance and predictable cornering.
- Suspension Tuning Flexibility — By offering multiple spring rates, Traxxas enables you to fine-tune your RC car's suspension to suit heavier or lighter vehicle configurations. A higher spring rate creates a stiffer suspension for cars with additional weight or for drivers preferring more direct handling feedback, whilst lower rates offer increased compliance for smoother rides and better traction.
- Genuine Traxxas OEM Component — As an original manufacturer component, these springs are engineered to exacting specifications and integrate perfectly with Traxxas 1/16 scale GTR shock absorbers. Using genuine parts ensures compatibility and reliability that aftermarket alternatives cannot always guarantee.
Technical Performance
These Traxxas GTR shock springs represent the engineering excellence that Traxxas brings to the RC hobby. The 2.77 spring rate is measured in the standard RC industry metric and represents the force required to compress the spring by a specific distance—higher numbers mean stiffer springs. For 1/16 scale RC vehicles, where suspension travel is measured in millimetres and handling precision is critical, choosing the correct spring rate is fundamental to achieving optimal performance. The spring steel construction ensures that the springs maintain their rated stiffness throughout their lifespan, resisting the gradual softening that can occur with inferior materials. The powder-coated finish is applied to the entire spring surface, providing comprehensive protection against rust and corrosion in all weather conditions—whether you're running your RC car in damp UK weather or storing it in a garage prone to moisture. These springs work in conjunction with the shock absorber dampers to create a complete suspension system; the springs provide the resistance and support, whilst the dampers control how quickly the spring compresses and extends. Together, they determine how your RC car sits on the track, how it responds to bumps and jumps, and ultimately how predictable and fun it is to drive. For competitive RC racing, trail running, or weekend bashing sessions, having quality suspension components like these springs is essential to maintaining consistent performance throughout your RC driving season.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the 2.77 spring rate mean, and how do I know if this is the right rate for my RC car? — The 2.77 spring rate refers to the stiffness of the spring; higher numbers indicate stiffer springs. A 2.77 rate offers a medium stiffness that works well for general-purpose driving across various track conditions and vehicle weights. If your current RC car feels too soft and bouncy, you might benefit from a stiffer spring (higher rate), whilst if it feels too stiff and harsh, a softer spring (lower rate) may improve ride quality. You can experiment with different rates to find the perfect balance for your driving style and setup.
- Are these springs compatible with all 1/16 scale Traxxas GTR models? — Yes, these springs are designed specifically for 1/16 scale Traxxas GTR shock absorbers. They are genuine Traxxas components engineered to work seamlessly with GTR suspension systems. Always verify that your specific model uses GTR-style shocks before purchasing, as some Traxxas 1/16 scale models may use different suspension designs.
- How often should I replace my shock springs? — Shock springs don't typically wear out like tyres or damper oil; they maintain their rate indefinitely under normal conditions. You would replace springs when switching to a different rate for suspension tuning purposes, or if a spring becomes physically damaged (bent or cracked). Regular inspection during maintenance can help you spot any damage before it affects performance.
- What is the difference between the pink stripe (2.77 rate) and other available spring rates? — Traxxas offers GTR springs in multiple rates, each identified by a different colour stripe for easy recognition. The 2.77 rate pink stripe falls in the medium range; softer springs (lower rates, different colours) provide more suspension compliance for smoother rides, whilst stiffer springs (higher rates) offer more responsive, direct handling for heavier setups or aggressive driving styles. Your choice depends on your vehicle weight, track conditions, and personal driving preferences.
- Do I need any special tools to install these springs? — Installation requires removing your existing shock springs, which typically involves disassembling the shock absorber. You'll need basic tools such as screwdrivers and potentially shock spring tools (available separately) to compress the spring safely. If you're unfamiliar with shock disassembly, we recommend consulting your Traxxas model manual or watching instructional videos before attempting the swap.
- Will these springs work with my 1/16 scale Traxxas Summit? — Yes, if your Summit model uses GTR-style shock absorbers, these springs are compatible. The Traxxas 1/16 Summit is one of the popular models that uses GTR suspension components, making these springs an ideal choice for tuning your Summit's handling characteristics.
