Overview

The Traxxas Spring, shock (GTR) (2.22 rate, Black) (1 pair) TRX7148 is an essential suspension tuning component for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand precision handling and responsive performance from their 1/16 scale RC models. Whether you're running a Traxxas Slash short course truck or an E-Revo monster truck, these GTR shock springs offer the fine-tuning capability that separates casual bashers from serious competitors. Suspension setup is one of the most critical aspects of RC car performance, and having access to springs in multiple rates allows you to optimise your vehicle's handling characteristics to suit your driving style, track conditions, and chassis configuration.

These genuine Traxxas GTR springs are manufactured to exacting standards using high-quality spring steel, ensuring consistent performance and reliability across multiple driving sessions. The 2.22 rate specification positions these springs in the medium-stiffness range, making them suitable for a wide variety of driving conditions and vehicle setups. Whether you're looking to upgrade from the standard springs on your ready-to-run RC car or experimenting with suspension tuning to improve cornering grip and stability, these springs deliver the performance upgrade you need. As an authorised Traxxas retailer, RC Model Shop stocks genuine factory springs that guarantee compatibility and performance, unlike counterfeit alternatives that may compromise your vehicle's handling and safety.

Sold as a pair, these springs provide the foundation for professional-grade suspension setup. The distinctive black colour with stripe designation makes identification quick and easy when managing multiple spring rates across several RC vehicles. If you're serious about maximising your 1/16 scale RC truck or monster truck's potential on the track or in the garden, upgrading your suspension springs is one of the most cost-effective and impactful modifications you can make.

Key Features

  • High-Quality Spring Steel Construction — These GTR springs are manufactured from premium spring steel that provides consistent, reliable performance across extended driving sessions, ensuring your suspension behaves predictably whether you're running at high speed or navigating technical terrain.
  • Durable Red Powder-Coated Finish — The protective red powder-coat finish resists corrosion and wear from dirt, mud, and moisture exposure, extending the lifespan of your springs and maintaining their appearance even after intensive use.
  • 2.22 Spring Rate for Precision Tuning — The 2.22 rate specification places these springs in the medium stiffness category, offering an excellent balance between responsive handling and smooth ride comfort across varied driving conditions.
  • Black Stripe Designation — The colour-coded black stripe system makes it instantly recognisable which spring rate you're using, preventing confusion when managing multiple spring sets across different RC vehicles or setups.
  • Sold in Pairs — Each package contains two springs, providing everything needed to upgrade a complete axle or to maintain a matched pair for consistent suspension geometry.
  • Suspension Tuning Capability — By offering springs in different rates, you can compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations, adjust ride height, modify suspension stiffness, and fine-tune handling to match your preferred driving style and track conditions.
  • Direct Traxxas OEM Parts — As genuine factory-original components, these springs guarantee perfect fitment and performance compatibility with Traxxas 1/16 scale models, with no compatibility concerns or quality variations.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GTR shock spring represents professional-grade suspension engineering designed specifically for the demanding requirements of 1/16 scale RC racing and bashing. Manufactured from high-quality spring steel, these components deliver consistent spring rates that remain stable across a wide range of temperatures and driving intensities. The 2.22 rate specification means these springs require moderate force to compress, making them ideal for drivers seeking a balanced setup that provides both responsive handling and adequate suspension compliance. The engineering behind these springs focuses on predictable, linear spring characteristics that allow drivers to feel exactly how their vehicle is responding to terrain changes and steering input. The durable red powder-coated finish isn't merely cosmetic—it serves as a protective barrier against the corrosive effects of salt, moisture, and abrasive dirt that RC cars inevitably encounter. For users in the UK, where damp conditions are common, this protective coating helps preserve spring integrity through multiple seasons of use. When combined with Traxxas GTR hard-anodised shock bodies (sold separately), these springs create a complete suspension system that responds consistently and predictably, allowing drivers to push their RC vehicles harder with greater confidence in their handling characteristics. Whether you're upgrading a standard E-Revo VXL or Slash 1/16 RTR model or building a custom competition setup, these springs form the foundation of professional-level suspension performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What RC models are these GTR springs compatible with? — These 1/16 GTR springs are compatible with several Traxxas models including the Traxxas E-Revo VXL 1/16 4x4 RTR brushless monster truck (available in Blue X and Purple variants) and the Traxxas Slash 1/16 4x4 RTR short course truck. They work specifically with Traxxas GTR hard-anodised shock bodies. If you're unsure whether your specific model uses GTR shocks, consult your vehicle's manual or contact RC Model Shop for compatibility verification.
  • What does the 2.22 spring rate mean, and how does it compare to other rates? — The spring rate indicates how much force is required to compress the spring by a set amount. A higher rate number means a stiffer spring that resists compression more strongly, while a lower rate means a softer spring that compresses more easily. The 2.22 rate positions these springs in the medium-stiffness range, making them suitable for balanced setups. If you find your vehicle sits too low or feels too soft (bogging down in corners or on landings), you might upgrade to a higher rate. Conversely, if the ride feels too stiff or the vehicle loses traction, a softer rate may help.
  • Can I mix different spring rates on the same vehicle? — Yes, many experienced RC drivers run stiffer springs on one axle and softer springs on the other to fine-tune handling balance. For example, some users report that running black springs (2.22 rate) in the rear with tan springs in the front provides excellent handling characteristics. However, start with matched pairs and adjust from there as you develop your setup preferences and driving skills.
  • Are these genuine Traxxas parts? — Yes, these are factory-original Traxxas components manufactured to OEM specifications. Part number TRX7148 is the official Traxxas designation for 1/16 GTR springs with 2.22 rate and black stripe. Purchasing genuine parts from an authorised UK retailer like RC Model Shop ensures compatibility, performance, and reliability.
  • Do I need any special tools to install these springs? — Installation typically requires basic RC maintenance tools including hex drivers and possibly a spring compressor to safely remove and install springs on your shocks. The exact procedure depends on your specific shock design—consult your vehicle's instruction manual for detailed installation steps.
  • What if I'm not happy with the handling after installing these springs? — Suspension tuning is iterative, and finding your ideal setup takes experimentation. If these springs feel too soft or too stiff for your conditions, Traxxas offers multiple spring rates designed to provide progressive tuning options. Document your findings and adjust your setup systematically, changing one component at a time so you can identify what makes the biggest difference in handling.
