Overview
The Traxxas Spring, shock (GTR) (1.92 rate, Green) (1 pair) TRX7146 is an essential suspension tuning component for RC enthusiasts running 1/16 scale Traxxas vehicles. These precision-engineered shock springs are designed to optimise your RC car's handling, stability and performance on track or off-road. Whether you're fine-tuning your 1/16 Slash or E-Revo for competitive racing or casual weekend bashing, quality shock springs are fundamental to achieving the perfect suspension setup. RC suspension tuning in the UK has become increasingly popular as drivers discover how dramatically the right spring rate can transform their vehicle's cornering ability, jump landing stability and overall responsiveness.
Traxxas GTR shock springs represent the gold standard in aftermarket suspension components for 1/16 scale RC cars. These springs are manufactured using high-quality spring steel, ensuring consistent performance and durability through countless driving sessions. The distinctive red powder-coated finish provides excellent corrosion resistance and helps you identify your springs at a glance on the workbench or in your RC pit bag. These springs are sold in pairs, giving you everything needed to upgrade both sides of your vehicle's suspension system.
The 1.92 rate spring with green stripe identification is specifically engineered to provide the ideal balance of compliance and support for medium-weight vehicle configurations. By choosing the correct spring rate, you gain precise control over your RC car's ride height, chassis attitude and weight distribution, which directly impacts handling characteristics. Whether you're new to RC car tuning or an experienced basher looking to dial in your setup, these GTR springs offer the performance and reliability expected from the Traxxas brand.
Key Features
- High-Quality Spring Steel Construction — These shock springs are manufactured from premium spring steel that maintains consistent performance and resists fatigue failure, ensuring they remain reliable through intensive use and multiple suspension tuning sessions.
- Durable Red Powder-Coated Finish — The protective powder coating provides excellent resistance to corrosion and wear, allowing your springs to maintain their appearance and functionality whether you're running on tarmac, dirt, grass or beach surfaces across the UK.
- 1.92 Rate Green Stripe Specification — The 1.92 spring rate is ideal for medium-weight configurations and provides an excellent balance between suspension compliance and support, perfect for general purpose RC car use and performance driving.
- Precision Spring Rate Technology — Traxxas offers these springs in multiple rates to allow drivers to tune suspension performance and compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations; the higher the rate, the stiffer the spring and the less it compresses under load.
- Sold as a Genuine Pair — This package includes two springs, providing complete coverage for both shock absorbers on your RC car's suspension system, ensuring balanced handling and consistent performance.
- 1/16 Scale Compatibility — These springs are specifically engineered for 1/16 scale RC vehicles, particularly Traxxas Slash and E-Revo models, ensuring perfect fitment and optimal performance characteristics for your vehicle's suspension geometry.
- Easy Spring Rate Identification — The green stripe coding system makes it simple to identify your spring rate at a glance, helping you maintain organised spare parts and avoid mixing different rates during maintenance.
Technical Performance
Traxxas shock springs are engineered with meticulous attention to detail, utilising high-quality spring steel that delivers consistent performance across a wide range of driving conditions. The 1.92 rate designation indicates a moderate spring stiffness that works exceptionally well for general-purpose RC car use, providing responsive handling without excessive harshness. In practical terms, a 1.92-rate spring offers superior compliance compared to stiffer rates (such as 2.7 or 3.6), allowing your suspension to absorb smaller track imperfections and landing impacts with greater finesse. This makes the 1.92 rate an excellent choice for drivers who appreciate a balanced approach to suspension tuning, whether they're running on smooth tarmac circuits, dusty off-road tracks, or mixed terrain. The red powder-coated finish isn't merely aesthetic; it serves as a protective barrier against moisture, dirt and UV exposure, extending the lifespan of your springs significantly. These springs are designed to work in conjunction with Traxxas GTR Hard Anodized shocks, creating a complete suspension package that delivers predictable, tuneable performance. The engineering behind Traxxas suspension components reflects decades of experience in RC racing and performance driving, ensuring that every spring you install contributes to a more responsive, controllable RC car UK setup.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What vehicles are these Traxxas GTR shock springs compatible with? — These 1/16 scale springs are specifically designed for Traxxas 1/16 models including the Slash 1:16 4x4 RTR Short Course Truck (TRX70054-8-BLK) and the E-Revo VXL 1:16 4WD RTR brushless monster trucks in various colours (TRX71076-8-PRPL and TRX71076-8-BLUEX). They work with Traxxas GTR Hard Anodized Shocks to create a complete suspension system.
- What does the 1.92 spring rate mean and how does it compare to other rates? — The 1.92 rate indicates the spring's stiffness; the higher the number, the stiffer the spring. A 1.92-rate spring is considered soft to medium in Traxxas's range, providing excellent compliance and a supple ride characteristic. Softer springs (like 1.92) compress more easily and provide more suspension travel, ideal for rough terrain and bumpy tracks, whilst stiffer springs (such as 2.7 or 3.6) compress less and suit lighter vehicles or smoother surfaces. Choose your spring rate based on your vehicle weight, driving style and track surface.
- Why should I upgrade my RC car's shock springs? — Quality shock springs directly impact your RC car's handling, stability and performance. Upgrading to precision-engineered springs like Traxxas GTR springs allows you to fine-tune your suspension setup, improve cornering grip, enhance jump landing stability and achieve the exact ride height and chassis attitude you desire. Worn or incorrect springs can cause unpredictable handling, poor traction and inconsistent performance.
- How do I know which spring rate to choose for my RC car? — Spring rate selection depends on three main factors: your vehicle's weight, the track surface you'll be driving on, and your personal driving style. Lighter vehicles or heavier drivers typically benefit from softer springs (like 1.92), whilst heavier vehicles or smoother track conditions might suit stiffer rates. Start with the 1.92 rate as a balanced middle ground and adjust based on how your car handles.
- Are these springs easy to install? — Yes, replacing shock springs is a straightforward maintenance task. Simply remove the shock absorber from your vehicle, carefully compress the spring using a spring compressor tool (or by hand with care), slide off the old spring and install the new one. Most RC enthusiasts can complete this task in under five minutes per shock.
- Do I need any special tools to install these springs? — A spring compressor tool is recommended to safely compress the springs during installation, though experienced builders can compress springs by hand. You'll also need a small hex wrench or screwdriver to remove shock bodies from your vehicle, depending on your model.
- Can I mix different spring rates on my RC car? — Whilst you can experiment with different rates front and rear for tuning purposes, it's generally recommended to use matching rates for balanced handling characteristics. Some advanced tuners intentionally use different rates front and rear to adjust understeer or oversteer characteristics, but this requires careful setup and testing.
