Overview
The Traxxas Steel Constant-Velocity Driveshaft (TRX7053) is a premium transmission upgrade designed for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand maximum torque handling and efficient power transfer. Whether you're running a high-performance brushless RC car or simply want to upgrade your existing setup with more durable components, this steel CV driveshaft delivers the engineering quality that Traxxas is renowned for. Perfect for both competitive racers and weekend bashers, this 48mm steel shaft represents a significant step up in drivetrain reliability and performance.
Compatible with popular 1/16 scale Traxxas models including the Rally and Slash, this driveshaft is engineered to handle the demands of modern brushless motors and high-torque applications. The steel construction provides exceptional durability compared to standard plastic alternatives, making it an essential upgrade for anyone serious about their RC car UK setup. If you're looking to enhance your RC's longevity and performance, this is a component that will make a tangible difference to your driving experience.
Key Features
- Steel Constant-Velocity Design — Unlike basic plastic driveshafts, this component utilises steel CV (constant-velocity) construction that offers the ultimate in torque handling capability and delivers efficient power transfer from your motor to the wheels, ensuring maximum acceleration and climbing power even under extreme load.
- Bearing-Secured Drive Pins — On the axle side, precision bearings securely hold the drive pins in place to prevent them from backing out during hard driving, maintaining consistent performance session after session without the need for constant maintenance checks.
- Heavy-Duty Steel Drive Cups — Large-bore drive pins are press-fit on the differential side and slot into heavy-duty steel drive cups that are engineered to withstand punishing torque loads from brushless motors, providing reliability that plastic simply cannot match.
- Rubber-Sealed Bearings — The included bearings feature rubber seals that effectively keep out dirt, mud and water, protecting the internal components and extending the service life of your driveshaft even when driving in challenging conditions across the UK terrain.
- Black-Oxide Protective Coating — A durable black-oxide coating is applied to the drive gear, which helps prevent rust and corrosion on the steel components, ensuring your investment maintains its structural integrity and appearance over extended periods of use.
- Splined Telescoping Design — Traxxas' unique splined telescoping mechanism delivers full-range articulation without limiting your suspension travel, allowing your RC car to flex and compress naturally without binding or restricting the driveshaft, which translates to better ground clearance and obstacle-crossing ability.
- Optimal for High-Power Applications — This component is specifically engineered for high-power brushless RC applications, making it the ideal upgrade if you're running a powerful brushless motor and want a drivetrain component that can reliably handle the increased torque output.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas TRX7053 represents serious engineering designed for users who understand that drivetrain quality directly impacts overall RC performance and longevity. The steel construction provides dramatically superior torque handling compared to plastic alternatives, with the constant-velocity design ensuring that power is delivered smoothly and efficiently to the wheels at all suspension angles. The bearing-secured drive pin system on the axle side prevents mechanical creep and unwanted movement during acceleration and braking cycles, whilst the press-fit large-bore drive pins on the differential side create an incredibly secure connection that resists wear even under repeated high-torque loading. The rubber-sealed bearings are a critical feature for UK drivers who often contend with wet, muddy conditions, as the seals actively prevent water and dirt ingress that would otherwise compromise the internal bearing surfaces and cause premature wear. The black-oxide coating provides a professional-grade rust preventative that maintains the steel's integrity in damp conditions common in the British climate. With its telescoping design providing unrestricted articulation, this driveshaft will not limit your suspension travel, meaning you get the full benefit of your chassis geometry and suspension setup. The 48mm length specification is precisely engineered for 1/16 scale Traxxas models, ensuring perfect fitment and optimal driveline angles. This is a component built to last, designed to perform, and engineered specifically for the demands of modern brushless RC cars.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will this steel CV driveshaft work with my Traxxas RC car? — This driveshaft is specifically compatible with 1/16 scale Traxxas models including the Rally and Slash. It does not fit models with WideMaxx suspension installed. You will need to confirm your model fits the V.1 narrow Maxx specification for proper fitment. If you're unsure whether your specific Traxxas model is compatible, we recommend contacting our team at RC Model Shop for confirmation.
- What makes this steel driveshaft better than the standard plastic version? — Steel construction provides dramatically superior torque handling and durability compared to plastic driveshafts. Steel maintains its structural integrity under high-torque brushless motor loads that would cause plastic to flex or break. The constant-velocity design ensures efficient power transfer, the bearing-secured system prevents pin back-out, and the black-oxide coating protects against rust and corrosion. If you're running a high-power brushless motor, a steel CV driveshaft is a worthwhile upgrade that will extend your drivetrain's lifespan considerably.
- Do I need to replace my wheel hubs and nuts to use this driveshaft? — Yes, this driveshaft requires 8654-series 17mm splined wheel hubs with 7758-series 17mm wheel nuts. If your RC car does not currently have these components, you will need to purchase them separately. These are common Traxxas parts that RC retailers stock, and our team can advise you on sourcing them if needed.
- How do the rubber-sealed bearings help protect my driveshaft? — The rubber seals on the bearings are designed to prevent water, mud and dirt from entering the bearing surfaces. This is particularly important for UK drivers who regularly drive in wet conditions. By keeping contaminants out, the seals extend bearing life and prevent the corrosion and wear that would otherwise occur when water or mud contacts the steel components.
- What is the advantage of the splined telescoping design? — The splined telescoping design allows the driveshaft to compress and extend as your suspension articulates without any binding or restriction. This means your suspension can use its full range of travel without the driveshaft limiting compression or extension, resulting in better ground clearance, improved obstacle-crossing ability, and more natural suspension movement throughout your driving sessions.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement/upgrade component rather than a complete RC car, so it's designed for users who already own a compatible Traxxas model and are comfortable with basic maintenance. Installation requires some mechanical knowledge. If you're new to RC, we recommend starting with a complete ready-to-run RC car and then upgrading components like this as you become more experienced with maintenance and tuning.
- Will this work with my brushless motor setup? — Yes, this driveshaft is specifically engineered for high-power brushless applications. The steel construction and constant-velocity design make it ideal for handling the increased torque output of brushless motors compared to brushed alternatives. If you're running a brushless motor in your Traxxas RC car, this is an excellent upgrade option.
