Overview
Keep your 1/16 scale Traxxas RC car running at peak performance with the Traxxas Rebuild kit, centre Differential (includes o-rings and diff gear covers) TRX7014X. This essential maintenance part is designed specifically for 1/16 E-Revo and Slash models, making it the perfect choice for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand reliability and precision from their vehicles. Whether you're a weekend basher enjoying your RC car at local tracks or a serious hobbyist pushing your model to its limits, maintaining a healthy centre differential is crucial for smooth handling, accurate steering response and consistent performance.
The centre differential is one of the most critical components in any high-performance RC car, distributing power between the front and rear axles whilst allowing them to rotate at different speeds during cornering. Over time, standard use causes wear on the differential gears and seals, leading to play, inconsistent handling and potential damage to other drivetrain components. This rebuild kit gives you everything needed to refresh your differential back to factory specifications, restoring that responsive, predictable feel that makes RC driving so rewarding. Available through RC Model Shop, this genuine Traxxas part ensures you're getting authentic components engineered to exact tolerances.
For anyone serious about maintaining their 1/16 RC car UK models, this rebuild kit represents excellent value and peace of mind. Rather than replacing an entire differential assembly at greater expense, this kit lets you breathe new life into your existing centre differential with fresh seals and components. It's the smart choice for competitors, collectors and enthusiasts who understand that proper maintenance is the foundation of reliable, enjoyable RC performance.
Key Features
- Complete Rebuild Solution — This kit includes everything required to completely rebuild your centre differential, so you don't need to purchase additional parts separately or visit multiple suppliers. The comprehensive nature of the kit saves time and ensures all components work together perfectly.
- New O-Rings Included — Fresh rubber seals are essential to maintaining differential integrity and preventing fluid leakage from the unit. Over time, original O-rings harden and lose their compression, allowing oil to seep out and contaminating other drivetrain areas. This kit provides new O-rings that restore proper sealing and extend the service life of your differential.
- Gear Covers Supplied — The differential gear covers are precision-engineered protective components that keep dirt, moisture and debris out of the sensitive gear train whilst maintaining proper oil retention. Fresh covers ensure optimal protection and performance during your RC driving sessions.
- Factory Specification Design — This Traxxas genuine part is manufactured to the exact same specifications and tolerances as the original equipment, meaning your differential will perform identically to when your RC car was new. You're not compromising on quality or performance when you choose this rebuild kit.
- Compatible with 1/16 Traxxas Models — Specifically engineered for 1/16 E-Revo and Slash models, this kit ensures perfect fitment and function without modification or adaptation. You can proceed with confidence knowing this part is designed exactly for your vehicle.
- Cost-Effective Maintenance — Rebuilding your existing differential costs significantly less than purchasing a complete replacement assembly, making this an economical choice for budget-conscious hobbyists who still demand quality and reliability from their RC cars.
- Restores Handling Precision — A worn centre differential causes vague steering, unpredictable cornering behaviour and inconsistent power delivery. Installing this rebuild kit restores the crisp, responsive handling characteristics that make driving your RC car enjoyable and allows for more consistent lap times on track.
Technical Performance
The centre differential is engineered with precision gears and bearings that distribute torque between the front and rear axles whilst allowing speed differentiation during cornering manoeuvres. Traxxas has designed this 1/16 scale centre differential system with high-quality materials and manufacturing processes that enable reliable performance even under demanding conditions. The inclusion of fresh O-rings is critical because these seals maintain the internal fluid environment that lubricates the gears and protects them from wear and contamination. Without proper sealing, differential oil leaks into the chassis, reducing lubrication effectiveness and potentially damaging surrounding components. The gear covers included in this rebuild kit are precision-fitted protective housings that maintain environmental sealing whilst allowing proper assembly into your vehicle's transmission. Over hundreds of runs, even with proper maintenance, the elastomer properties of original O-rings degrade due to exposure to oils, temperature cycling and time, causing them to lose compression and sealing effectiveness. This rebuild kit addresses this natural wear cycle by providing new components that restore your differential to like-new performance. Whether you run your 1/16 RC car UK on carpet, asphalt, dirt or concrete surfaces, the centre differential works constantly to manage power delivery and maintain traction, making regular maintenance an essential part of responsible vehicle ownership. By rebuilding your centre differential at the recommended service interval, you extend the life of your transmission, maintain consistent handling characteristics and prevent catastrophic failure that could damage gears and require replacement of the entire differential assembly.
What's in the Box
- New O-rings for differential sealing
- Gear covers for differential protection
Frequently Asked Questions
- How often should I rebuild my RC car's centre differential? — The frequency depends on how intensively you drive your vehicle. Casual weekend bashers might rebuild every 6-12 months, while competitive drivers who run multiple times per week might need to rebuild every 2-3 months. Signs that rebuilding is needed include vague steering response, difficulty holding a line through corners, differential whine or grinding sounds, or visible oil leakage from the differential housing. This kit makes the process straightforward and affordable.
- Is the Traxxas centre differential rebuild kit suitable for beginners? — Whilst rebuilding a differential requires some mechanical skill and the right tools, it's an achievable task for anyone comfortable with basic RC maintenance. If you've changed a servo or replaced tyres, you have the capability to rebuild a differential. We recommend having a workshop manual available and taking your time with the process. If you're completely new to RC maintenance, consider having an experienced friend help you through the first rebuild, or visit RC Model Shop where our team can provide guidance.
- Will this rebuild kit work with other Traxxas 1/16 scale models besides E-Revo and Slash? — This kit is specifically designed for the centre differential used in 1/16 E-Revo and Slash models. Before purchasing, verify that your model uses the 7014X differential. Different Traxxas models may use different differential designs, so checking compatibility is essential to ensure the kit will fit properly.
- What tools will I need to rebuild my centre differential? — You'll need basic tools including screwdrivers, possibly a small hex key set depending on your specific differential, and a clean workspace. Having some light machine oil or silicone differential fluid on hand is also useful. Traxxas publishes detailed assembly guides that specify exactly what you'll need for your model.
- Can I reuse the old gears from my centre differential? — In most cases, if your gears are not damaged, stripped or showing excessive wear, you can reuse them. This rebuild kit focuses on replacing the wear items (O-rings and covers) that degrade most quickly. However, if you notice gear damage, scoring or excessive play during disassembly, you may need to purchase replacement gears separately.
- How does rebuilding my differential improve my RC car's performance? — A worn centre differential with degraded seals allows oil to leak out, reducing lubrication of the gears and causing them to work harder and generate more friction. This increased friction causes sluggish power delivery, unpredictable steering response and reduced efficiency. Fresh O-rings restore proper sealing, allowing the differential to maintain its internal fluid film and operate smoothly. This results in crisper steering response, more consistent cornering behaviour, smoother power delivery and better overall handling characteristics. For competitive drivers, this can translate to noticeably faster lap times.
